NEWSBREAKERS NASCAR
N'Wide: Ky Busch wins Lowe'sSaturday 5/24, 9:25 PM CT
In a Kyle Busch Toyota, Kyle Busch snapped the three-race winning streak of the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) No. 20. It was his fourth victory of the year.

Our View: In addition, Busch has three second-place finishes and he continues to dominate both series.
Ku Busch runs most lapsSaturday 5/24, 6:48 PM CT
Kurt Busch logged the most laps in the three combined practice sessions at 103 circuits around this 1.5-mile track.

Our View: That could be critical. This engine still has to run 600 miles on Sunday and fantasy owners have to wonder if the powerplant will hold.
Ky Busch wins Lowe's HHSaturday 5/24, 5:54 PM CT
Kyle Busch had the quickest average speed in both practice sessions, confirming his status as a favorite to win the Coca-Cola 600.

Our View: His average speed of 176.719 mph during 24 laps was underscored by the sixth fastest lap of 179.695.
Vickers fastest in Lowe's HHSaturday 5/24, 5:52 PM CT
Brian Vickers posted the single fastest lap in Happy Hour for the Coca-Cola 600, with a speed of 180.735 mph.

Our View: Rolling off the grid third, Vickers is going to be a contender for most of the evening and he's a dark horse to win.
N'Wide: Ragan on outside poleSaturday 5/24, 4:16 PM CT
David Ragan beat Greg Biffle and Kasey Kahne to the pole for the Carquest Auto Parts 300, but the last driver on track, Brian Vickers pushed him to the outside of the front row.

Our View: With a worst result of 16th on the "cookie-cutter" tracks, he is a good value in Nationwide series games and should outperform Vickers during the race.
N'Wide: Vickers wins Lowe's poleSaturday 5/24, 4:14 PM CT
The field had to wait until the last car took the track. Brian Vickers won the pole with a speed of 179.904 mph.

Our View: Vickers has one top-10 on the "cookie-cutter" tracks, in his most recent outing at Texas, but his other two results on this track type were outside the top 20.
N'Wide: Harvick next to crashSaturday 5/24, 3:02 PM CT
Kevin Harvick also crashed early in the qualification session for the Carquest Auto Parts 300. He will need to roll out a backup as well.

Our View: These cars are impounded after qualification, and in order to start fast, the drivers have to qualify with a very loose setup. Inexperience wasn't the only factor in Steve Wallace's earlier crash.
N'Wide: Wallace crashes in Lowe's qualsSaturday 5/24, 2:50 PM CT
Steve Wallace crashed during his lap of qualification and will have to go to a backup car. They have only three hours or so until the start of the Carquest Auto Parts 300.

Our View: We had just got through waving a green flag over Wallace for showing increased maturity, but he can no longer be considered a good value.
Haas cars confiscatedSaturday 5/24, 2:45 PM CT
Both Gene Haas cars were confiscated at Lowe's Motor Speedway prior to Saturday's first practice session for a discrepancy in the location of the brackets for the rear spoiler. Scott Riggs and Johnny Sauter will have to go to backup cars and fall to the rear.

Our View: Apparently the cars passed post-qualification inspection, however, or Sauter's penalty would be even worse: He would have had his time disallowed, which would have sent him home. More penalties will be announced later.
Busch wins Saturday first practiceSaturday 5/24, 2:41 PM CT
Kyle Busch posted the quickest average speed in Saturday's first practice session for the Coca-Cola 600 with a speed of 177.029 mph during 21 laps.

Our View: His top speed of 179.581 was third fastest on that grid, but the second session on Saturday will be a better indication of strength.
Biffle fastest in Saturday first practiceSaturday 5/24, 2:39 PM CT
Greg Biffle posted the single fastest lap in the morning practice session at Lowe's Motor Speedway with a speed of 180.282 mph.

Our View: Biffle has been noted as a strong dark horse and this only helps his case.
