Hendrick drivers extend streakThursday 5/29, 10:05 PM CT
With a fourth-place finish by Jeff Gordon and a fifth with Dale Earnhardt, Jr, Hendrick Motorsports has extended their streak of top-10s to 77 consecutive races.

Our View: One driver or another has finished that well dating back to the April 2006 running of the Samsung / Radio Shack 500. In that race Jimmie Johnson finished just outside that mark in 11th.
Raines withdrawsThursday 5/29, 8:15 PM CT
The No. 08 entry driven by Tony Raines has been withdrawn from the entry list for the Best Buy 400.

Our View: This team still has some work to do before they threaten to qualify on a regular basis, but will be priced accordingly in the bargain basement when they do show up at the track.
Eight men in: DoverThursday 5/29, 7:46 PM CT
In the event qualification is rained out, the following drivers would be in the show: Bill Elliott, Sam Hornish Jr., J.J. Yeley, Jeremy Mayfield (in the No. 40), A.J. Allmendinger, Chad McCumbee (in the No. 45), Joe Nemechek and Patrick Carpentier.

Our View: That leaves only Jason Leffler and John Andretti out of the show. The No. 70 of Leffler drop out of the previous list after the team was docked 150 owner points and dropped to 43rd in the standings—just behind Carpentier's No. 10.
Ambrose gets crew chiefThursday 5/29, 7:14 PM CT
Frank Kerr will be Marcos Ambrose's crew chief for four Cup attempts this season. The first of these will be Indianapolis in August.

Our View: Kerr started the season with Robby Gordon, but the chemistry just wasn't there. Tad Geschickter is looking to bring his Nationwide team up to the big leagues in selected events and Indy is a good place to attempt a debut. Flat tracks behave like road courses, where Ambrose cut his teeth in native Australia.
Haas interim chiefs namedThursday 5/29, 6:05 PM CT
While Bootie Barker, crew chief for Scott Riggs, and Dave Skog sit out six weeks after being penalized by NASCAR, they will be replaced by Matt Borland in the No. 66 and Steve Genenbacher in the No. 70 run by Jason Leffler this weekend.

Our View: Borland was formerly a crew chief for Ryan Newman. He has his work cut out for him since Riggs now sits 34th in the standings, only five points above 36th after getting penalized 150 owner points for having unapproved wing brackets at Lowe's.
DuPont extends sponsorship thru 10Thursday 5/29, 5:30 PM CT
DuPont will continue to sponsor the No. 24 Jeff Gordon – Rick Hendrick Chevrolet through 2010, which will be their 18th season together.

Our View: This also means that Gordon is likely to stick around for at least two more years. With a new baby daughter, he has been eluding to retirement with increasing frequency.
Smith gets new chiefThursday 5/29, 5:11 PM CT
Regan Smith will have a new crew chief this week at Dover. Dan Stillman has been named to the position.

Our View: Stillman was most recently car chief on the No. 55 Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota and he replaces Kevin Buskirk after he filled in for one race following the separation of Doug Richert and team. It will be trial by fire, as Smith is barely inside the top 35 in owner points and must run well to keep his qualification exemption.
N'Wide: JR Motorsports penaltiesThursday 5/29, 4:47 PM CT
NASCAR has suspended one crew member of Brad Keselowski's team and placed Tony Eury Jr. and another crew member on probation following the altercation with Denny Hamlin's crew after last week's Carquest Auto Parts 300.

Our View: The crew member, Michael Sandlin was suspended for one race for 'inappropriate contact' with a race official; otherwise, NASCAR would have probably placed him on probation as well. Still, emotion is—and should be—part of this sport.
Sadler re-ups with GEMThursday 5/29, 3:17 PM CT
Elliott Sadler has signed a multiyear extension to drive for Gillette-Evernham Motorsports. The length of the contract was not disclosed.

Our View: Coming off a top-10 at Lowe's in the Coke 600—a race his teammate Kasey Kahne won—this organization is feeling like momentum is on their side. Be aware, however, that was only Sadler's second top-10 of the year.
