NEWSBREAKERS NBA
Garnett solid in Game 7 winSunday 5/18, 7:07 PM CT
Kevin Garnett had a solid Game 7 as he contributed 13 points and 13 boards in the Celtics victory.

Our View: While he was solid in the win, this was hardly a statement game for Garnett who handed out only three assists and generated just one steal. We will look for more out of him in the Conference Finals against the Pistons.
Allen invisible in winSunday 5/18, 7:04 PM CT
Ray Allen was once again invisible as he left all the scoring to teammate Paul Pierce (41 points). Allen was able to make just 1-of-6 shots and was held to four points, zero boards and just one assist in Game 7.

Our View: The Celtics might have just squeezed by their second playoff opponent, but unless Allen finds his shot, and quick, the Celtics likely won't be moving on to the NBA Finals.
West ends uneven playoff runSunday 5/18, 7:01 PM CT
Delonte West played 45 minutes on Sunday and scored 15 points with three rebounds and five assists in the Cavs 97-92 loss to the Celtics. West also turned the ball over six times in the loss.

Our View: And so ends an extremely up and down playoff season for West as he scored 20 or more points three times while being held to less than seven points six times marking him as someone who is just a little bit short of finding the type of consistency that is needed to take his game to the next level.
Pierce carries the loadSunday 5/18, 6:05 PM CT
Thanks to LeBron James, the Boston Celtics nearly blew Game 7 at home in the Eastern Conference semifinals, but thanks to forward Paul Pierce , they pulled through with a 97-92 win. Pierce was 13-of-23 from the field, an impressive 4-of-6 from long range, and 11-of-12 from the charity stripe to score 41 points.

Our View: Pierce also added five assist and four rebounds with two steals to the stat line. The rest of the Celtics' starters failed to find a member to score more than 13 points (Kevin Garnett) in support of his effort, but the fouls caught up to Cleveland in the end and now Boston moves on to face Detroit.
James works alone, Cavs sufferSunday 5/18, 6:01 PM CT
The game was much closer than should have been, but despite an outstanding performance from LeBron James , the Boston Celtics emerged victorious, 97-92, in Game 7 to take the Eastern Conference semifinals, 4-3. James went 14-of-26 from the field but just 3-of-11 from three-point range, balanced by 14-of-19 from the charity stripe to finish with 45 points, adding five rebounds, six assists, two steals, and just two turnovers in the loss.

Our View: The next highest scorer for Cleveland was guard Delonte West, posting 15. That won't cut it, but LeBron made it close.
Big Ben turns small in Game 7 lossSunday 5/18, 5:58 PM CT
The score was close and indicates just how great the final game of the Eastern Conference semifinals was, but the failure to seize opportunity on offense by forward Ben Wallace likely cost the Cavs the opportunity to advance, taking the 97-92 defeat from Boston to finish the series, 4-3. Wallace was atrocious in all forms, going 1-for-1 from the floor and 1-for-2 from the free-throw line to score three points with four total assists.

Our View: The true depth of Wallace's inadequacy came with 1:22 left in the 4th. Down by two, LeBron James made a bullet pass under the rim to an unguarded Wallace, but rather than turn and take the ball to the hole, he immediately passed it back to James, double teamed well beyond the three-point arc with second on the shot clock. James forced the trey, missed, and Boston reversed to go up by five with less than a minute left. Game over.
Bynum to go under the knifeSunday 5/18, 4:16 PM CT
Andrew Bynum will have arthroscopic surgery on his injured left knee on Wednesday ending all hopes of a possible playoff comeback, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: It's time for this to happen. Bynum had done everything he could to comeback without surgery, but it's clear that he just wasn't able to get over the hump leaving surgery as the last option.
West looks ready despite backSunday 5/18, 8:32 AM CT
Hornets forward David West practiced with the team on Saturday and reports he is feeling great and is ready to go for New Orleans in Game 7 against the San Antonio Spurs today, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: West was forced off the floor during the fourth quarter of the team's decisive Game 6 loss on Friday, leaving concerns that he may be hampered for today's final series match. However, reporters at practice indicate West looked great in practice, working on mid-range jumpers, fadeaways, and post-up moves. This is amazing news for the Hornets fans as West has been a tremendous contributor this postseason, especially against the Spurs. They'll need his best to pull out the win today.
