NEWSBREAKERS NBA
Kobe leads Lakers to comeback winWednesday 5/21, 11:04 PM CT
Kobe Bryant had just two points in the first half of Wednesday's Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, but he scored 25 the rest of the way en route to helping the Lakers overcome a 20-point second half deficit to defeat the Spurs, 89-85. Kobe also added five rebounds and nine assists.

Our View: Kobe certainly didn't look MVP-worthy for a while, but by the end of the night he reminded everyone why he earned the award.
Nuggets not trying to deal MeloWednesday 5/21, 10:18 PM CT
Carmelo Anthony shot down trade speculation Wednesday, saying recent published reports are based on "bad information," according to the Rocky Mountain News. According to reports out of New York and New Jersey, the Nets and Nuggets have discussed parameters of a deal involving Anthony and teammate Marcus Camby. Anthony is entering the second year of a five-year, $78.9 million contract.

Our View: It appears Melo will be staying in Denver, though we'll let you know if the trade winds start swirling once again.
Bynum has successful surgeryWednesday 5/21, 5:52 PM CT
Andrew Bynum underwent successful arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Wednesday, according to Sports Network. Dr. David Altchek performed the 30-minute procedure to remove some cartilage debris and sooth some rough spots on the underside of the kneecap.

Our View: Bynum is expected to be ready by the start of training camp.
Gasol will defend DuncanWednesday 5/21, 11:50 AM CT
Pau Gasol will guard Tim Duncan in the Western Conference Finals against the Spurs, as long as the Lakers star stays out of foul trouble. The two big men often didn't guard each other when Gasol was with the Grizzlies. "Without a doubt, (Gasol) is going to have to play (Duncan)," head coach Phil Jackson tells the Los Angeles Daily News. "They'll see what it's like, they'll test it out early and they'll see whether they can create a foul situation, that's not unusual in that situation. We'll probably do the same thing."

Our View: We'll see how long this matchup lasts on both sides. This is where the Lakers obviously miss Andrew Bynum, as the big fella could have used some of his six to bang Duncan.
