NEWSBREAKERS NBA
Posey leads Boston benchMonday 5/26, 11:46 PM CT
The Boston bench contributed only 17 points in the Game 4 loss to the Pistons. James Posey scored 11 of the 17 points.

Our View: P.J. Brown chipped in four, rookie Glen Davis contributed three and veteran Sam Cassell was shut out in 17 minutes of action.
Wallace scores 14 and defendsMonday 5/26, 11:44 PM CT
Rasheed Wallace scored 14 points in the Pistons Game 4 win over the Boston Celtics. Wallace did a good defensive job on the biggest of Boston's Big Three. The trio combined for a miserable 11-for-38 from the field.

Our View: Wallace added five rebounds in the winning effort.
Garnett recordes double-doubleMonday 5/26, 11:31 PM CT
Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen combined to shoot 11-for-38 from the field in Monday's loss to the Pistons.

Our View: Garnett, who was averaging 24 points and nearly 12 rebounds in the Detroit series, scored 16 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.
McDyess leads Pistons to winMonday 5/26, 11:28 PM CT
Antonio McDyess registered his best game of the playoffs, scoring 21 points and grabbing 16 rebounds helping Detroit to a 94-75 win Monday night in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals.

Our View: McDyess did everything in the must win. He rebounded, played defense, went after lose balls and hit the big shot when the Pistons needed it.
Prince struggles in Game 3Monday 5/26, 6:12 PM CT
Pistons' forward Tayshaun Prince scored just four points on 2-for-11 shooting in Saturday's Game 3 loss to Boston.

Our View: This marked the first time during this year's NBA Playoffs that Prince didn't reach double-digits in scoring. If the Pistons have any chance of regaining home court advantage, Prince will have to be better tonight.
Perkins comes through in Game 3Monday 5/26, 6:10 PM CT
Kendrick Perkins has done little to endear himself to the Boston faithful during the the first two rounds of the playoffs. The robust starting center notched only his second double-double of the postseason (seventeen games) in Game 3, with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Our View: Getting support from starting center, as well from the inconsistent bench of the Celtics, would go a long way in providing a second straight upset in Detroit tonight. In fact it's a must if Boston expects to leave the Palace with a win.
Garnett steps up his playMonday 5/26, 6:05 PM CT
Power forward Kevin Garnett has stepped up his game since the second round of the NBA playoffs. Against Detroit he's averaging 24 points and 11.7 rebounds a game.

Our View: Boston's Big Three will need the bench support they received in Game 3 if they want to win their second straight road playoff affair in Detroit tonight. Getting support from starting center Kendrick Perkins wouldn't hurt. He notched his second double-double of the postseason in Game 3, with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Billups to lose minutes to StuckeyMonday 5/26, 6:02 PM CT
Chauncey Billups will continue to play through his injured hamstring, but RotoTimes sources report that rookie backup Rodney Stuckey will log more playing time tonight.

Our View: Billups answered the call in Game 2 when he gutted out 19 points and seven assists in a key road victory, but his six points in Game 3 has forced the team's hand. Stuckey is now averaging 13 points a game in the series, including his 17 in Game 3.
Varejao on the blockMonday 5/26, 11:31 AM CT
The Cavaliers may shop Anderson Varejao this summer, the Akron Beacon-Journal reports. The forward is coming off a frustrating season and is entering the final year of his contract.

Our View: Sideshow Bob has shown flashes of being a very nice complementary player, and at 25, he should have good trade value. The Cavs could use him as part of a package to obtain a better piece to play alongside that James guy.
Odom takes blame for Game 3 loss Monday 5/26, 9:16 AM CT
Lamar Odom has personally taken the blame for the Lakers' Game 3 loss to the Spurs, according to the LA Times. After the game, Odom said, "I put this one on myself. I take the blame, totally, for this game. There is no way I can play like that. I've got to play better than that. I got to the free-throw line and didn't make free throws. I turned the ball over. That's not good enough. Especially on the road with this type of atmosphere, this type of intensity. I don't sleep tonight. I keep the TV off. I don't read the newspaper. I get out to practice tomorrow and get my butt to the free-throw line."

Our View: Odom had a tough outing, but still led the Lakers with 11 boards. He should bounce back in Game 4.
Ellis will be restricted free agent Monday 5/26, 9:03 AM CT
Monta Ellis will be a restricted free agent in July, and could be interested in joining coach Mike D'Antoni in New York, according to Newsday.

Our View: Ellis excelled in Don Nelson's fast break offense in Golden State, and would fit in very well in D'Antoni's up-tempo style with the Knicks. Ellis averaged 20.2 points per game in 2007-08.
Cassell frustrated by benching Monday 5/26, 7:58 AM CT
Prior to his appearance in Game 3 against Detroit, Sam Cassell had gone four straight games without playing, according to FanNation.com. Cassell said, "It's very frustrating. This is my first year in the NBA that I sat out in a playoff game. I didn't get any playing time in four games. That's my first time ever. It boggles not just me but anyone around, like, 'Why's he not playing?' I'm not discouraged, but it's tough, ain't no lie. It was tough because I know I can play."

Our View: He logged eight minutes in Game 3 against the Pistons, and scored five points, while going 1-for-1 from long range.
Parker generates 20 in win Monday 5/26, 7:07 AM CT
Tony Parker generated 20 points in Sunday's key 103-84 win over the Lakers in Game 3. He also racked up three boards, five assists, and one steal.

Our View: That was his best scoring night of the series, and now the Spurs trail 2-1 to Los Angeles. Parker always steps up in crunch time when the Spurs need him the most.
Gasol scores 15 in lossMonday 5/26, 7:01 AM CT
Pau Gasol scored 15 points in Sunday's 103-84 loss to the Spurs. He also registered five boards and one assist.

Our View: That tied his second lowest rebounding effort of the playoffs. The Lakers still lead the series 2-1, and he should bounce back.
