NEWSBREAKERS NBA
Love looking beautifulThursday 7/17, 11:24 PM CT
Kevin Love had another impressive game on Thursday when he scored 26 points to go with 15 rebounds.

Our View: Love is averaging 15 rebounds per game thru three exhibitions this summer.
Bayless goes for 29 moreThursday 7/17, 11:22 PM CT
Jerryd Bayless went for 29 points and six rebounds on Thursday night against Minnesota.

Our View: Bayless has now gone for 26, 28, and 29 in three games. He has gone to the line 55 times in those contests. Still, it will take a lot more to get significant playing time on a very deep Blazers roster.
Azubuike signs offer sheet with the ClippersThursday 7/17, 8:12 PM CT
CBS Sports reports that the Clippers have signed restricted free agent Kelenna Azubuike to an offer sheet. The Warriors will have seven days to match.

Our View: Azubuike averaged over 16 points per game as a starting forward last season. The Warriors may let go of him in order to save money for the contracts of other restricted free agents, Monta Ellis and Andris Biedrins.
Armstrong hangs 25 on the ClipsThursday 7/17, 8:01 PM CT
Hilton Armstrong scored 25 points and grabbed eight rebounds on Thursday in Vegas summer league action.

Our View: Armstrong raised his averages to 15.8 ppg and 6.5 rebounds. He will be the primary backup to Tyson Chandler next season and will benefit from playing with Chris Paul.
Williams gets extension from JazzThursday 7/17, 6:51 PM CT
The Sports Ticker reports that the Utah Jazz agreed in principle to a contract extension with point guard Deron Williams , the team announced Thursday.

Our View: Williams is perhaps the second best fantasy point guard behind Chris Paul who announced an extension earlier this month.
Green looking good in summer leagueThursday 7/17, 4:58 PM CT
Gerald Green has averaged 15 points in just 21.3 minutes per game in summer league action.

Our View: Green is making a sincere effort to live up to his potential. He is on a one year contract and may be an attractive option for the Mavericks. However, new coach Rick Carlisle favors veterans like Eddie Jones and Jerry Stackhouse so Green will have to consistently impress, something he has not shown the ability to do.
Allen gets dealThursday 7/17, 4:04 PM CT
The Milwaukee Bucks have signed forward Malik Allen, reports PA Sports Ticker. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: Don't expect a new home to change Allen's fantasy value much. The 6-10 forward has career averages of 5.7 points and 3.2 rebounds over his seven years in the league.
Miles attempting comebackThursday 7/17, 2:53 PM CT
Miles is attempting to return from microfracture surgery he had to his right knee in 2006. Once deemed to be "career-ending" by the NBA, Miles has set out to prove them wrong. Miles has earned workouts with the Nets, Celtics, Suns, and Mavericks, reports SI.com. "I feel like I'm a starter in this league -- on a lot of teams I really should be a starter,'' Darius said. "But I would love to go to a playoff team to come off the bench.''

Our View: Miles return could be an amazing one. Keep him on your fantasy radar if he ends up signing with a team, that is if you don't mind a little risk.
Timberwolves bring back SmithThursday 7/17, 2:38 PM CT
The Timberwolves have re-signed forward Craig Smith, according to PA Sports Ticker. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: In 77 games last season Smith averaged 9.4 points and 4.6 rebounds. Look out for this third year player, he could become a nice sleeper pick.
Plaisted shows promise as defenderThursday 7/17, 12:35 PM CT
Rookie center Trent Plaisted (BYU) has shown promise as a defender, according to MLive.com. He has been among the most consistent performers so far through the summer league, and coach Michael Curry said, "Trent's defense is definitely ahead of his offense. Pick-and-roll is what our league has gone to now. Your bigs have to be able to get out and move their feet. He already can get up and defend pick-and-rolls, which is the hardest thing to do for a big man right now."

Our View: Plaisted averaged six points and 4.5 boards over his first two games in summer league play. He could develop into a sound starter for the Pistons, but his fantasy value will be limited as a rookie.
Houston attempting comeback Thursday 7/17, 11:09 AM CT
Allan Houston will play with the Suns in voluntary games this September to determine the status of his comeback bid, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Allen is 37 years old and hasn't played in the NBA since 2005. His chances of a successful comeback are slim.
Love has big nightThursday 7/17, 10:55 AM CT
Kevin Love posted 18 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in a Summer League tilt against the Lakers on Wednesday. He also had six turnovers and five fouls.

Our View: The saying goes that the Summer League doesn't tell you who can make it in the NBA, but it does tell you who can't. As expected, Love is showing that he's better than most of the competition at this level. It'll be interesting to see his stats come the NBA preseason.
Dorsey grabs 14 boardsThursday 7/17, 10:42 AM CT
Joey Dorsey grabbed 14 rebounds and added eight points, three assists, one block, and one steal in his Summer League debut on Wednesday. He also committed six fouls and turned the ball over six times.

Our View: Dorsey is a big bruiser who needs to develop his offensive skills, especially his work at the free-throw line. The Rockets are probably hoping he can turn into, say, Udonis Haslem in a year or two. Dorsey won't have any fantasy value in 2008-09.
Mavs show interest in ArtestThursday 7/17, 10:35 AM CT
The Mavericks have offered Jerry Stackhouse and Brandon Bass in exchange for Kings forward Ron Artest, the Sacramento Bee reports. The Kings aren't expected to show interest unless Josh Howard is part of the package.

Our View: The rumors keep growing and swirling. It seems more and more likely that Artest will be wearing another uniform next season.
Rockets reach agreement with DorseyThursday 7/17, 10:25 AM CT
The Rockets have reached an agreement with second-round pick Joey Dorsey, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: Though not actually signed, Dorsey's agent and the Rockets reached an agreement to allow Dorsey to begin playing. Dorsey accepted the Rockets' offer to purchase insurance as is customary for most second-round picks playing in the summer league.
Yao Ming returns Thursday 7/17, 10:10 AM CT
Yao Ming returned to the court Thursday (with the Chinese national team) for the first time in almost six months, according to the AP. He scored six points in seven minutes of action, and appeared rusty, as this was his first game since suffering a stress fracture in February.

Our View: The injury is said to take a full year to heal, but Yao describes it to be 80 percent back to health. The Olympics are set to begin in August, and his minutes, barring a setback, will gradually rise heading up to that point.
Mayo scores 20Thursday 7/17, 7:37 AM CT
OJ Mayo scored 20 points while running the point in Wednesday's summer league loss to the Clippers, according to the AP. Memphis coach Marc Iavaroni didn’t want to classify Mayo as a point guard or shooting guard, opting to call him a "creative scorer." Iavaroni added, "I'm not a numbers guy. He needs to be a more versatile player and work at other positions. He showed he's willing to take the big shot and he likes to have the ball in his hands."

Our View: Mayo struggled at times (made 24 turnovers), but averaged a team-best 22.8 points over five summer league games. He will hold solid fantasy value as a scorer as a rookie, but will need time to develop the other parts of his game.
Artest not interested in Denver Thursday 7/17, 7:05 AM CT
Ron Artest is not interested in playing for the Nuggets, according to the Rocky Mountain News. He said, "I cannot play in Denver because they question my drive to finish my career off strong and not embarrass my family. Any player wants to win a championship is low risk. That's not even an option to be a Nugget. They let me know how they felt about me already."

Our View: The Nuggets could have dealt Kleiza and Eduardo Najera last February to the Kings for Artest, but Denver was reluctant to give up a top young prospect in Kleiza for a player who could opt out of his contract this summer and become a free agent.
