NEWSBREAKERS NBA
Hill excels on defense in summer leagueSaturday 7/26, 8:09 PM CT
San Antonio first-round pick George Hill struggled from long range, but still averaged 12.8 points and 3.0 steals per game, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Hill will be strictly a back up to Tony Parker in San Antonio, but you know Gregg Popovich is loving the defense.
Anderson has shooting strugglesSaturday 7/26, 8:06 PM CT
Nets first-round pick Ryan Anderson had real trouble shooting the ball in the Rocky Mountain Revue summer league, leading some to wonder how ready he actually is for the NBA, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Anderson shot an awful 23.7% from the field, and his struggles, coupled with fellow Nets first-rounder Brook Lopez's lack of effort in the league make this a week to forget in Jersey.
Randolph shines in summer leagueSaturday 7/26, 8:01 PM CT
Warriors first-round selection Anthony Randolph was an All-Revue player in the summer league, after averaging 17.5 points and nearly seven rebounds per game, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: The report also states that Randolph got ejected from a game for getting two technical fouls, but coaches were happy to see he his enthusiasm for the contests, unlike his first-round counterpart, Brook Lopez.
Lopez looks lethargicSaturday 7/26, 7:58 PM CT
Brook Lopez looked disinterested in playing at the Rocky Mountain Revue summer league, and his shooting percentage of 36.1% was indicative of that, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: This is certainly not the way to begin a career. Lopez should have dominated that league, but instead struggled and had an apparent attitude problem.
Gomes will sign multi-year dealSaturday 7/26, 7:23 PM CT
Ryan Gomes will sign a multi-year deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves some time next week, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Gomes had a fine year last season, scoring 12.6 points and snaring nearly six rebounds per game. He has value in fantasy leagues, but should only provide depth.
Law performs well in summer leagueSaturday 7/26, 4:45 PM CT
After averaging over 16 points per game, Hawks guard Acie Law was named to the all-tournament first team in the Rocky Mountain Revue summer league, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View: Law was the 11th overall pick of the Hawks, but he played only 15 minutes a game his rookie year, averaging four points, two assists and a rebound. Mike Bibby is the point guard for Atlanta, and Law will have to be satisfied in a backup role.
Bobcats looking to ink, not trade, OkaforSaturday 7/26, 9:55 AM CT
Contrary to reports eminating out of Charlotte in recent days, the Bobcats assert they are not seeking to trade forward Emeka Okafor , according to the Charlotte Observer.

Our View: Charlotte Bobcats general manager Rod Higgins says he's not pursuing a sign-and-trade deal to resolve Emeka Okafor's restricted free-agency. However, Higgins also sees a downside to Okafor signing a one-year qualifying offer. A source familiar with the situation said the Bobcats are now offering Okafor something closer to $10million a season. Higgins declined comment on the negotiations.
Deng tempted by Europe but chooses BullsSaturday 7/26, 9:25 AM CT
Reports out of Chicago indicate star forward Luol Deng, in the midst of contract negotiations with the Bulls, was approached with a lucrative deal to come to Europe and join a professional league in Greece. However, Deng turned the offer down and continues to seek a long-term deal with Chicago, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The Greek team, the Olympiacos, are believed to have offered Deng $20 million for three seasons of work. When Deng turned them down, they turned to and signed Atlanta forward Josh Childress (a move we reported earlier this week). Sources said Olympiacos team officials first approached Deng through his agent, Jason Levien, to gauge the restricted free agent's interest in leaving the NBA. While no formal offer was made, one source said parameters far more lucrative than Childress' were discussed. Citing Deng's desire to remain in the NBA, Levien declined and continues to work towards an agreement with the Bulls.
OKC files to trademark six nicknamesSaturday 7/26, 8:32 AM CT
Despite earlier reports suggesting the decision has been made, the newly-formed Oklahoma City franchise of the NBA has filed for trademark rights to six nicknames, including the Bisons, Barons, Energy, Marshalls, Thunder, and Wind, according to the Daily Oklahoman.

Our View: Thunder won a fan vote on NewsOK.com and is still believed to be the name of choice, but the decision to trademark other names has us wondering if they have yet to make up their minds. All the names, except for Marshalls, were top picks by readers, as well. We'll keep you posted
