Ellis may have second surgerySunday 10/12, 11:33 PM CT
48minutes.net reports that Monta Ellis will eventually have to undergo a second surgery to remove the screws that are currently holding his ligament in place.

Our View: Obviously, the second procedure would require recovery time in addition to the original three months and it is possible that it may be March, April or next season before we see Monta on the court again.
Hawes continues to show improvementSunday 10/12, 11:24 PM CT
Spencer Hawes had three blocks and 10 rebounds to go with six points in the Kings 89-94 loss to the Lakers on Sunday.

Our View: Hawes has had a nice preseason and will be Brad Miller's primary backup this season. While his skills are good and his minutes will increase, he does not hold much fantasy value as long as Brad Miller is around. Miller has two years left on his contract and it is possible the Kings may eventually try and move the veteran in hopes of developing their younger players.

Miller is in the final year of his contract and it is possible the Kings may eventually try and move the veteran in hopes of developing their younger players.
Odom comes off the bench in Lakers winSunday 10/12, 11:17 PM CT
Lamar Odom came off of the bench in Sunday's 94-89 win over the Kings and managed just two shots in the effort. He did pull down nine rebounds and dished out three assists.

Our View: Odom has had one poor performance after another in the preseason and he may be in danger of losing his starting spot with Andrew Bynum and Pau Gasol manning the post positions. Even if he does come off of the bench, he will manage 25 minutes per game and put up solid all around numbers. But it may be time to drop him a few slots on your draft boards.
Bynum starts in Lakers winSunday 10/12, 11:14 PM CT
Andrew Bynum got his first start of the preseason on Sunday as the Lakers defeated the Kings 94-89. In 22 minutes, the big man scored nine points, grabbed five rebounds, blocked five shots and recorded a steal.

Our View: Whether or not Bynum starts or not, he is deserving of a fantasy roster spot. He knows how to get his share of blocks and rebounds and shoots a very high percentage from the field. Obviously, if he starts his stock will be much higher.
Harpring misses third straight gameSunday 10/12, 8:29 PM CT
The AP reports that Matt Harpring was out for the Jazz for the third exhibition game on Sunday as he continues to rehab his right ankle after surgery to remove bone spurs.

Our View: Harpring is a good role player for the Jazz but his days of being relevant in fantasy basketball are behind him.
Landry is impressing in HoustonSunday 10/12, 8:23 PM CT
The Houston Chronicle reports that the Rockets will be selective with Carl Landry's minutes in the preseason due to his maturity at the position. He has shown throughout the preseason his comfort level his jumpshot and he has been encouraged by his coaches to use it more.

Our View: Landry will share minutes at power forward with Luis Scola this season. He saw action in only 42 games last season but was effective in the time he was given. As long as he is sharing his minutes, though, he does not figure to have much fantasy value.
Boozer returns to actionSunday 10/12, 7:51 PM CT
Carlos Boozer made his preseason debut on Sunday against Portland after missing the first two Jazz exhibitions due to a sore hamstring. He played just 15 minutes, scored 12 points and collected eight rebounds in the 93-80 victory.

Our View: Boozer is probably in the second tier of the many elite power forwards when it comes to fantasy basketball. He is a good bet for 20 points and 10 rebounds but comes up empty in the blocks category while being an average free throw shooter.
Korver hits three threes in winSunday 10/12, 7:45 PM CT
Kyle Korver continues to be comfortable with the Utah Jazz. He hit all three of his three-point attempts tonight, making him 6-for-9 from beyond the arc in the preseason. He finished the game 14 points.

Our View: Korver can be a big boost to a roto team looking to get cheap three-pointers off of the bench. He hit nearly two threes per game after joining the Jazz last season.
Kirilenko is successful in bench roleSunday 10/12, 7:38 PM CT
Andrei Kirilenko came off of the bench again in Sunday's 93-80 win over Portland. He was effective this time by leading his team in scoring. He finished with 15 points, five assists, two blocks, a steal, and three rebounds.

Our View: It's appearing more and more likely that AK47 will be coming off of the bench this season. That's where he should be on fantasy team's as well.
Batum leads Blazers in scoringSunday 10/12, 7:35 PM CT
Rookie Nicolas Batum led all Portland scorer's with 16 points through 31 minutes in Sunday's 93-80 loss to the Utah Jazz. He had two steals, three blocks, and two three-pointers.

Our View: The 19-year-old showed some of the promise that made him so highly regarded coming into this past summer's draft. The Blazers were without several players due to injury and there is still a possibility he may play over in Europe this season.
Nelson starts at point guard for WarriorsSunday 10/12, 6:47 PM CT
DeMarcus Nelson started at point guard for the Warriors in their 122-102 triumph over the Oklahoma City Thunder. He shot 8-for-10 from the field, good for 18 points. He added seven assists, four steals and four rebounds in his 33 minutes of action.

Our View: Both Marcus Williams and C.J. Watson played in the game but quite a bit less than Nelson. With his impressive performance, Nelson has made it a three-man race for starting point guard duties until Monta Ellis returns.
Harrington looking good so farSunday 10/12, 6:42 PM CT
Al Harrington continued a nice preseason on Saturday night as the Warriors defeated the Thunder 122-102 on Saturday. Golden State's starting power forward had 16 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals in the victory.

Our View: Harrington is poised for a rebound season in 2008-09. He will no longer be expected to play center and should see more than the 27 minutes per game he played last season.
Durant shows signs of fantasy superstardomSunday 10/12, 6:36 PM CT
Kevin Durant scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Thunder's 102-122 loss to the Warriors on Saturday. He chipped in three steals, three assists and two blocks in the loss.

Our View: Durant is poised for an excellent season but not only because of his offensive abilities. He is good for at least a block and a steal per game but don't expect him to average a three-pointer per contest.
Wilkins scores 23 in lossSunday 10/12, 6:32 PM CT
Damien Wilkins started at shooting guard and played 34 minutes in the Thunder's 122-102 loss to Golden State on Saturday. He finished with 23 points, three steals and five rebounds.

Our View: If Wilkins wins the starting job, he could be a good sleeper. However, the Thunder started Kevin Durant and Jeff Green both in the frontcourt, which is not a likely pairing in the regular season. For the moment, don't assume Wilkins is starting this season.
Stuckey is well-rounded in winSunday 10/12, 6:25 PM CT
Rodney Stuckey played 33 minutes in Saturday's 111-99 win over Milwaukee. He scored 15 points, 10 assists and five steals in the win.

Our View: Stuckey should provide good production off of the bench this season for the Pistons. Should the Pistons' backcourt suffer an unlikely injury, Stuckey will provide excellent fantasy numbers.
Iguodala does it all in winSunday 10/12, 5:00 PM CT
Andre Iguodala shot just 4-for-13 but did a little bit of everything in Philadelphia's 85-79 win over Toronto. He finished with 13 points, five rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks.

Our View: As usual, Iggy Hop should provide good defensive numbers, especially for a shooting guard. He has upped his scoring average in each season but the addition of Elton Brand could put an end to that trend.
Brook Lopez starts for New JerseySunday 10/12, 4:22 PM CT
Brook Lopez started at center in the Nets' second preseason game and fared well for a rookie. In 31 minutes he scored eight minutes, grabbed 13 rebounds, blocked three shots and stole two balls.

Our View: Lopez will likely be used in a rotation at center that includes Josh Bone and Sean Williams this season. He has plenty of skill to be considered in fantasy leagues, but not enough playing time.
Haslem plays some center in preseason debutSunday 10/12, 4:17 PM CT
Udonis Haslem started for the Heat in Sunday's preseason game in London against the Nets. He played center in the second half in place of Mark Blount who had just one rebound in 21 minutes. Haslem finished with four points, four steals and six rebounds.

Our View: Haslem could see plenty of time at center this season as the Heat's other options are pretty weak.
Yi starts for NetsSunday 10/12, 4:14 PM CT
Yi Jianlian played nearly 30 minutes and started at power forward for the Nets in their second preseason game. He scored 19 points, had three rebounds and two steals.

Our View: Coach Lawrence Frank has discussed using a deep rotation in his front court which would limit Yi's value. Even if he does see thirty minutes per game, he would have to up his efficiency from last season to be an effective fantasy player.
Beasley records double-double Sunday 10/12, 3:58 PM CT
Michael Beasley recorded a double-double in Sunday's 94-92 preseason loss to the Nets, with 12 points and 11 rebounds over 26 minutes of action. He also notched two assists and a steal.

Our View: Beasley should fare well right away as a rookie, but his fantasy value could be limited while playing in a talented rotation at forward.
Banks paces Heat in loss Sunday 10/12, 3:53 PM CT
Marcus Banks paced the Heat with 19 points in Sunday's 94-92 preseason loss to the Nets. He also contributed two boards, four assists, four steals, and a block.

Our View: Banks has improved his bid to earn the starting job at point guard. He is currently competing with Chris Quinn and Mario Chalmers.
Harris chips in 14 points in win Sunday 10/12, 3:50 PM CT
Devin Harris chipped in 14 points in Sunday's 94-92 preseason win over the Heat, to go along with two assists.

Our View: Harris is off to a solid start in the preseason, and looks to challenge a new career-high in points (14.8) this season.
Carter leads Nets to close win Sunday 10/12, 3:44 PM CT
Vince Carter led the Nets in Sunday's close 94-92 preseason win over the Heat, as he scored 19 points with four boards, four assists, and three steals. He shot 5-of-10 from the field.

Our View: He had been dealing with a sore hamstring, but was not slowed by the ailment in today's solid effort.
Moon collects 10 boards in loss Sunday 10/12, 2:55 PM CT
Jamario Moon collected a game-high 10 rebounds in Sunday's 85-79 preseason loss to the Sixers. He also chipped in seven points, one steal, and one block.

Our View: Moon is a solid defensive player, and looks to improve further in his second NBA campaign as the Raptors' starting small forward, making him worthy of fantasy consideration as a backup.
Kapono scores team-high 14 points Sunday 10/12, 2:49 PM CT
Jason Kapono scored a team-high 14 points in Sunday's 85-79 preseason loss to the Sixers. He also chipped in two boards, two assists, and a block, while shooting 2-for-3 from long-range.

Our View: Kapono is among the best long-range shooters in the NBA, but his fantasy value will remain limited while serving as a backup with Toronto.
Another solid outing for Brand Sunday 10/12, 2:44 PM CT
Elton Brand had another solid outing for the Sixers in Sunday's 85-79 win over the Raptors, as he registered 10 points, nine boards, one assist, and a block. He played 28 minutes in the contest.

Our View: He continues to fit in well with his new club as he scored a game-high 24 points in his previous game against the Knicks.
Young leads Sixers in win Sunday 10/12, 2:39 PM CT
Thaddeus Young led the Sixers with 17 points in Sunday's 85-79 preseason win over the Raptors, to go along with three rebounds, three assists, two steals, and a block.

Our View: He was forced out of Saturday's game against the Knicks after sustaining a corneal abrasion to his left eye, but appears to be fine, evidenced by today's solid performance.
Smith still sporting crutches Sunday 10/12, 1:38 PM CT
Jason Smith is still sporting crutches after tearing the ACL in his left knee in August, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: The second-year center is working on strengthening his hip and calf muscles as well as using the stationary bike to work on range of motion. He could potentially miss the entire 2008 season while recovering.
Brewer gaining confidence Sunday 10/12, 1:05 PM CT
Corey Brewer has been gaining confidence through camp and the preseason, and drained 4-of-5 shots from long-range during the 118-95 loss to the Nuggets, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: Over three preseason games, Brewer has hit five threes, two fewer than he made all last season. He also is shooting 51.7 percent from the field and is tied with Al Jefferson for second in scoring behind Rashad McCants with a 13.7-point average. Brewer worked very hard on his shooting in the off-season, and is enjoying solid results right now. He is worth a look as a late-round flier in fantasy drafts.
Skiles pleased with Freije Sunday 10/12, 12:53 PM CT
Coach Scott Skiles has been pleased with Matt Freije through camp and the preseason so far, according to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. On Saturday night, the 6-foot-10 Freije scored 11 points and added four boards over 13 minutes of action in the Bucks' 111-99 loss to the Pistons. He drained his only three-point attempt and was 5-of-6 from the field. Skiles said, "Matt is one of those guys who is a classic team guy. He knows everything you're running; he executes everything. He can also make an open shot. He defends his spot. He's been a guy who has been on the verge before of playing in the NBA and hasn't quite made it. You can rely on him when he's out there. He's a kind of system guy. We don't have a roster spot right now. It's possible a spot can be created at some point. He's played very well, and he certainly has not hurt himself. I imagine other people that are watching our games are noticing him, too."

Our View: Freije notably led Vanderbilt to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in 2004 and was a second-round draft pick (53rd overall) by the Heat in that same year.
Perkins misses Saturday's game Sunday 10/12, 12:44 PM CT
Kendrick Perkins missed Saturday's preseason game against the Rockets due to a shoulder injury, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Patrick O'Bryant continues to replace him at center, and gets valuable playing time to improve his game.
Haslem to play Sunday Sunday 10/12, 12:28 PM CT
Udonis Haslem is expected to make his preseason debut in Sunday's game against the Nets, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Haslem has been cleared to test the sprained left foot that kept him out of Miami's first two exhibition games. He will work at center after the club lost Jamaal Magloire for at least six weeks due to a broken bone in his left hand.
Herrmann remains out Sunday 10/12, 11:57 AM CT
Walter Herrmann remains out of action while nursing sore ribs, according to MLive.com.

Our View: He has missed the Pistons' last three preseason games, and the team is unclear when he will be ready to return. As a fantasy prospect, he holds no value.
Bucks hopeful regarding Bell Sunday 10/12, 11:46 AM CT
The Bucks are hopeful to get Charlie Bell back in the lineup soon, according to MLive.com.

Our View: Bell has missed all of Milwaukee's preseason games due to a left Achilles injury. He has been slow to heal from off-season surgery on his right ankle. He is making progress and could be back and see action before the end of the preseason.
Wallace practices on limited basis Sunday 10/12, 11:17 AM CT
Ben Wallace practiced on a limited basis Saturday, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View: He is nursing a sprained ankle and a sore back. He has missed 15 games over the past two seasons, and his production has declined in each of his last five seasons. He could be ready for the start of the regular season, but should be avoided as a fantasy prospect in standard sized-leagues.
West remains absent from camp Sunday 10/12, 11:11 AM CT
Delonte West remains absent from camp while attending to an undisclosed personal matter, according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

Our View: He is a top candidate to start at shooting guard, but is missing valuable camp time, and could lose ground to Mo Williams and Wally Szczerbiak.
Szczerbiak returning to form Sunday 10/12, 11:06 AM CT
Wally Szczerbiak is returning to form heading into his first full season with the Cavs, according to the Akron Beacon Journal. He is more comfortable with the team and said, "I think the camp's going well. I'm getting to know everyone a little better, going through the rigors, the aches and pains with all the guys doing shooting drills like we're doing, I think that's going to go a long way toward building chemistry and trust."

Our View: He is competing for the starting gig at shooting guard. He only averaged 11.5 points over 23.2 minutes per game in 2007, but averages 15 points over his career, and could get back on track as a full-time starter in 2008, making him worthy of a late-round pick.
Douby day-to-day Sunday 10/12, 10:44 AM CT
Quincy Douby is considered day-to-day after sustaining a sprained ankle, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View: Douby should see more playing time in his third season with the Kings, but won't likely be productive enough to garner fantasy interest.
Udrih practicing Sunday 10/12, 10:40 AM CT
Beno Udrih is practicing this weekend for the first time since straining his left hamstring Wednesday, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View: Udrih is questionable for Sunday's game, but the ailment isn't serious. Bobby Brown could start at point guard if Udrih is held out.
Thomas misses practice Sunday 10/12, 10:20 AM CT
Tim Thomas missed Saturday's practice while dealing with a strained left groin, according to the LA Times.

Our View: The team did not disclose the severity of his ailment. If healthy, Thomas would rank as a favorable reserve, as he averaged 12.4 points and 5.2 boards in 2007.
Camby sits out Sunday 10/12, 10:15 AM CT
Marcus Camby sat out Saturday's practice while nursing a bruised right heel, according to the LA Times.

Our View: The injury is not believed to be serious, but he could be out for 4-5 days. Camby doesn't score much (only averaged 9.1 points per game in 2007), but he is among the best defensive centers in the NBA, and should serve as a strong fantasy starter in his first campaign with the Clippers. He averaged 13.1 rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 3.6 blocks over 79 games with Denver last season.
Jefferson released by Clippers Sunday 10/12, 10:10 AM CT
Dontell Jefferson has been released by the Clippers, according to the LA Times.

Our View: The Clippers could use depth at the guard position, but Jefferson was not deemed worthy of a roster spot.
Noel trimmed by ClippersSunday 10/12, 10:06 AM CT
David Noel has been cut by the Clippers, according to the LA Times.

Our View: He signed as a free agent a few days prior to the start of training camp, but did not impress the Clippers enough to earn a roster spot.
Dunleavy still battling tendinitis Sunday 10/12, 9:12 AM CT
Mike Dunleavy is still battling tendinitis in his right knee, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Our View: He hopes to return to the court within the next week or so. Dunleavy favorably averaged 19.1 points per game last season, but will rank as a risky fantasy prospect for 2008, as his ailment could return over the course of the season.
Big night for BelinelliSunday 10/12, 12:24 AM CT
Guard Marco Belinelli led the Warriors with 22 points in Saturday's preseason win over the Thunder. He shot 8-of-13 from the floor, including 3-of-6 beyond the arc. Belinelli added six assists, three boards, and two steals. He played over 45 minutes.

Our View: Belinelli is a very good shooter, but he is likely to be up and down throughout the upcoming season. He should improve noticeably on his 2007-08 stats, but he probably won't help too much in fantasy leagues.
