McFadden, Gholston on prospect listSunday 4/13, 8:41 PM CT
The Jets list of draft prospect interviews over the coming week includes Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Ohio State defensive end/linebacker Vernon Gholston, and Troy cornerback Leodis McKelvin, the New York Daily News reports.

Our View: We mention those three names because they are top-10 picks in many mock drafts. McFadden and Gholston are two players who typically end up in the Jets' lap.
Running back on draft wish listSunday 4/13, 4:07 PM CT
The Houston Chronicle confirms the Texans are looking for a left tackle, cornerback, pass-rushing end, and running back in the upcoming draft.

Our View: It's no secret that the Texans need a long-term solution, unless Darius Walker or Chris Taylor turns into a surprise contributor. Ahman Green remains the starter, but Gary Kubiak will add some young legs behind him, possibly as soon as the first round.
Top prospects in St. Louis this weekendSunday 4/13, 1:59 PM CT
The St. Louis Rams, possessing the 2nd-overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft, are hosting visits with four of this year’s top prospects this weekend, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. University of Virginia DE Chris Long, Ohio State DE Vernon Gholston, LSU DT Glenn Dorsey, and University of Michigan OT Jake Long are all in town visiting the Gateway to the West and are the apparent targets of this team.

Our View: The Rams have more than a few glaring needs and any one of these players would be a welcome addition to the squad. Expect news of potential contract negotiations to follow in the coming days.
Brohm visits MinnesotaSunday 4/13, 12:00 PM CT
The Vikings may be looking to draft a quarterback, recently enjoying a visit with University of Louisville passer Brian Brohm , according to Scout.com.

Our View: The Vikings own the 17th-overall pick of the upcoming draft, but more importantly, they have serious questions at the QB position where Tarvaris Jackson resides as the top starting option. Brohm’s stock was sky high entering the 2007 season, but struggles for the team left the Cardinals as a disappointment and damaged Brohm’s value moving forward. Still, the cannon-armed prospect could be off the board when the Vikings are slated to take the stage as several teams listed higher in the draft order are also in need of a quarterback. If Brohm were to fall to Minnesota, it is easy to envision that pick coming to fruition.
Wilson rejects ClevelandSunday 4/13, 9:54 AM CT
Veteran free agent LB Al Wilson has reportedly rejected a contract offer from the Cleveland Browns, according to the Denver Post. The Browns offered Wilson, coming off an entire season missed as he recovered from a neck injury, a one-year deal that would have paid him close to the league minimum.

Our View: The hope was to see the veteran leader come into training camp and compete for a starting job at inside linebacker in the 3-4 defensive scheme, a situation where Wilson might thrive if he can return to form, but Wilson, a five-time Pro Bowl invitee, feels the offer is well out of the realm to suit his needs and took little time to reject the offer.
Gholston added to Miami's radarSunday 4/13, 9:29 AM CT
Following a story that continues to grow, while the Miami Dolphins continue to talk contract with Tom Condon, the agent for University of Michigan OT Jake Long, and has reportedly contacted the agents for University of Virginia DE Chris Long and LSU DT Glenn Dorsey, it appears the team is adding another name to the list of potential choices, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. The Sun-Sentinel reports the Fins are also seeking talks with the representatives for Ohio State DE Vernon Gholston .

Our View: Gholston turned heads in this year’s Scouting Combine and has continued to grow his draft stock in personal workouts, ranked as the one player at his position capable of pushing Long, former son of NFL great Howie Long and long viewed as the top DE of choice in this year’s draft, as the top DE available for hire. Securing such a deal, while crucial in the process for the Fins, should not necessarily indicate the choice is made. This has become a regular practice for NFL franchises in today’s business model and it would be wise for any team in this position to seek multiple options. The names mentioned as potential candidates do not shock, though the absence of QB Matt Ryan and RB Darren McFadden certainly gives those teams that come later in the 1st Round a ray of hope.
Dirty Birds debating DraftSunday 4/13, 9:20 AM CT
Reports suggest the Atlanta Falcons’ management team, namely owner Arthur Blank and coach Mike Smith, are struggling to agree on the use of their upcoming top draft pick, the 3rd-overall pick in the draft, a debate the centers around DT Glenn Dorsey according to John Clayton of ESPN.com.

Our View: The team recently brought LSU's Dorsey into the ATL for a visit and Clayton reports this was an interview sought by Blank. Meanwhile, Smith and others are pushing Boston College QB Matt Ryan as the preferred man of choice. The reports indicate Blank may be willing to sign off on Ryan should Dorsey not be available (a distinct possibility), but if the big defensive stud is there at #3, it may be Blank guiding the decision as the Falcons continue to seek defensive enhancement through the draft.
Shockey heading out?Sunday 4/13, 9:11 AM CT
TE Jeremy Shockey has been absent from the Giants’ offseason workouts thus far and rumors persist that a move out of New York is in the works, including a potential trade to New Orleans, according to the Newark (NJ) Star-Ledger. Shockey has been working to return from a leg injury that kept him out of playoff action last season, and as many fans know, his decision to avoid workouts in New York is nothing new (like many alum, Shockey prefers to spend his time with former teammates at the University of Miami-FL). However, QB Eli Manning has told reporters he has spoken with Shockey and that he hopes one of his favorite targets returns. “I hope he understands we would like him back,” said Manning. “He’s a tremendous player. He helps us out and helps out our offense when he’s out there.”

Our View: It’s nice of Manning to note Shockey’s obvious skills, but do not believe the team is not working to dump this guy off. They found noteworthy success on the field AFTER Shockey was lost to injury, and in his absence, the team may feel they stumbled upon an underrated option in Kevin Boss, a young player who added substantial effort to the cause in last year’s run to the Lombardi Trophy. This could result in one of the more intriguing stories of the offseason, and with the draft fast approaching, a potential trade could be forthcoming sooner rather than later.
