Fins playing on the cheap with 1st pick?Wednesday 4/16, 11:12 PM CT
In an attempt to update an ongoing story that is now turning from annual ritual to potential debacle, the Miami Dolphins, said to be discussing contractual terms with University of Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long , are reportedly offering a contract described as low, and the report goes on to suggest the Fins are actually shopping contracts to three potential picks with the intent of using the 1st-overall pick of this year's NFL Draft on the player that accepts the lowest number, according to Scout.com.

Our View: Rob Rang of Scout.com reports that an unnamed source has called the initial offer to Long "low," but also notes sources inside the Fins' organization are claiming the team is torn between three potential players to pick, adding defensive ends Vernon Gholston and Chris Long to the debate. The report states the Fins have offered Jake Long a deal that is $10-15 million less than the 1st-overall pick of 2007 (Oakland QB JaMarcus Russell) was signed for. Rang reports the team intends to offer the same deal to Gholston and Chris Long, and the team is likely to draft the player that agrees to the deal (assuming one does). However, Range notes these are best described as "rumors" and the Fins have yet to enter negotiations with Gholston or Chris Long, thus it is hard to determine if these assertions are in fact true. Stay tuned.
NFL to LA?Wednesday 4/16, 11:00 PM CT
Edward P. Roski, Jr., one of the owners of the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL and the Los Angeles Lakers of the NBA, a man that has spent much of his time attempting to lure an NFL team to his area, has scheduled a news conference at Staples Center with a promise of a "major announcement" concerning the NFL and Los Angeles, according to the Associated Press. The LA Times is reporting Roski will unveil his latest concept for a stadium in the City of Industry, near the southern intersection of the 57 and 60 freeways, approximately 20 miles east of Los Angeles.

Our View: Greg Aiello, a spokesman for the NFL, has told the Associated Press the league is not involved in Thursday's news conference.
Dansby signs one-year tenderWednesday 4/16, 8:32 PM CT
Arizona LB Karlos Dansby will sign the one-year tender offer presented by the team, a decision reached after long-term contract negotiations stalled, according to Scout.com.

Our View: Dansby will be paid a touch over $8 million this season and will be a free agent at season's end as a result of the decision, also allowing the play-making tackle machine to resume workouts with the team while his agent and the Cardinals continue to discuss long-term contract options.
Baltimore seeking options at QBWednesday 4/16, 7:43 PM CT
The Baltimore Ravens have struggled to identify a worthy candidate at quarterback during recent seasons, and as a result the team seems to be putting all emphasis on answer those questions with an addition in this year's NFL Draft, according to NFL.com.

Our View: The Ravens have hosted visits with University of Michigan passer Chad Henne, University of Delaware QB Joe Flacco, and University of Louisville passer Brian Brohm in recent days. Baltimore also held a private workout with Boston College QB Matt Ryan on Wednesday. The dilemma may come in positioning as the Ravens sit at #8 in the first round of this year's draft. The general thought suggests Ryan will be gone by that time while Flacco, Brohm, and Henne are not considered good values at that point in the draft. Thus it would seem likely that news of potential trade talks to either move up or down in the first round are certain to arrive as we approach the NFL Draft. Stay tuned.
Saints looking to move up in DraftWednesday 4/16, 7:27 PM CT
It appears the New Orleans Saints are moving towards the NFL Draft with a particular target in mind, and in an effort to insure that player is available, the Saints have contacted the St. Louis Rams, owners of the 2nd-overall pick of this year's draft, to discuss a potential trade to move up into that slot, according to NFL.com.

Our View: The Saints possess the 10th-overall pick in the draft and, based on generally accepted values associated with those picks, the team is likely going to be shopping several picks (and possibly players) to make the substantial jump in the 1st round. It is rumored, knowing New Orleans harbors serious needs on the defensive side of the ball, coach Sean Payton is looking to get in position to draft LSU DT Glenn Dorsey. It is a move that shocks more than few who follow and cover the league as so few teams have been willing to make a move into the first 10 picks of the NFL Draft in recent seasons, in large part due to the cost associated to make such a deal as well as the dollars that must be dedicated to the player selected with such a pick. It now appears the Saints are willing to make that sacrifice, and all signs point to a defensive upgrade.
WR Jackson finally a BroncoWednesday 4/16, 4:52 PM CT
Darrell Jackson officially became a member of the Broncos on Wednesday after passing his physical, this according to the Denver Post. "There were three or four other teams interested in Darrell, but everything aligned perfectly for us with Denver," said Brian Mooney, Jackson's agent.

Our View: Jackson was simply awful last season in San Francisco with just 46 receptions for 497 yards. He will look to recapture past glory this season with Jay Cutler, a massive improvement over the quarterbacks who threw him the ball in San Francisco last year.
Losman to remain with BillsWednesday 4/16, 4:48 PM CT
J.P. Losman will continue to remain a part of the Buffalo Bills organization despite his stated request to be traded, this according to NFL.com. "J.P.'s on this roster and he's a part of this organization. And we anticipate J.P.'s going to be on this team," Bills COO Russ Brandon, said.

Our View: Losman has stated that he will play out his contract and then move on at the end of the year, but it appears that Losman will back up second year QB Trent Edwards this season.
Johnson still wants out of CincyWednesday 4/16, 4:44 PM CT
Chad Johnson is still repeating his desire to be traded from the Bengals, this according to a report on NFL.com. “I will not be at any mandatory camp,” Johnson said. “I will not be at training camp. This is not a joke. I really don’t want to play for the Bengals. Period.”

Our View: The Bengals have remained steadfast that they will not trade Johnson no matter what he says or does. The fact is, at a certain point, they may have to rid themselves of the cancer called Chad Johnson who continues to care more about himself than his teammates.
Jerry Jones talks about Pacman Wednesday 4/16, 1:31 PM CT
Jerry Jones made a few comments regarding Pacman Jones, according to the Star Telegram. The Cowboys' owner said that he's not confident that Pacman Jones will be reinstated by the league. "Not at all." He added, "It's going to take more than just talk from Adam to get on the field."

Our View: Hopefully this will be settled soon.
Washington signed to one-year deal Wednesday 4/16, 1:25 PM CT
Nate Washington has signed a one-year contract to remain with the Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He will earn $1,417,000 in 2008

Our View: Nate had a handful of solid outings in 2007, and was worth hanging on to by Pittsburgh.
Boston pleads no contest to charge Wednesday 4/16, 12:37 PM CT
David Boston, who was arrested in August on a drunken driving charge, pleaded no contest this morning to a lesser charge of reckless driving, according to the Tampa Tribune. County Judge William Overton sentenced him to six months' probation and ordered him to attend DUI school. Boston also was ordered to serve 50 hours of community service and pay $615 in investigative costs and a $500 fine. Once Boston fulfills his financial obligations and attends DUI school, he will have the right to buy out of his 50 hours of community service. He also will have the right to ask for early termination of his probation. He did not comment.

Our View: Boston won't likely hold any fantasy value in 2008.
Foschi inks with Chiefs Wednesday 4/16, 11:17 AM CT
John Paul Foschi has inked a two-year deal with the Chiefs, according to KCChiefs.com. Financial terms were not disclosed. The former Raiders' fullback was out of football in 2007.

Our View: He holds no fantasy value.
Mendenhall to visit Broncos Wednesday 4/16, 11:13 AM CT
Illinois running back Rashard Mendenhall will visit the Broncos this week, according to the Denver Post. The team would consider drafting him as insurance, and as a change of pace to the oft-injured Travis Henry.

Our View: His long-term fantasy stock would rank high if Denver calls his name on draft day, as Broncos' running backs are also hot in the fantasy world.
Jackson to take physical in DenverWednesday 4/16, 11:08 AM CT
Former Seahawks' star Darrell Jackson will take his physical with the Broncos today, according to the Denver Post. He has already agreed on the financial parameters of a contract with the team, and should sign if his physical goes fine. The team earlier mentioned that they aren't stockpiling receivers due to the recent arm injury of rising star Brandon Marshall. The team signed Samie Parker this week as well.

Our View: Jackson failed to make an impact in San Francisco following a great career in Seattle, but he could benefit from a fresh start in Denver.
Hester is unhappy with contract Wednesday 4/16, 10:59 AM CT
Devin Hester is unhappy with his contract, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. He wants to be paid among the league's best, and pointed out that he has scored the most touchdowns on the team over the last two seasons. He is by far the best return man in the NFL, and was a huge contributor during their recent run to the Super Bowl.

Our View: If the Bears don't show him the money, another team gladly will.
Talib expected to visit Atlanta Wednesday 4/16, 8:35 AM CT
Kansas cornerback Aqib Talib is expected to visit with the Falcons this week, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View: He would help following the loss of DeAngelo Hall to Oakland, as he also has skills and experience as a return man.
Otah attends Falcons' practice Wednesday 4/16, 8:31 AM CT
Pittsburgh offensive tackle Jeff Otah attended the Falcons practice on Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View: He is considered one of the top prospects at the position behind Jake Long, and he would help solidify the Falcons' unstable offensive line if they call his name on draft day.
Erik Coleman lines up as starting FS Wednesday 4/16, 8:27 AM CT
Erik Coleman lined up as the team's starting free safety in practice on Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Lawyer Milloy lined up as strong safety.

Our View: Coleman made a favorable impact during his time with the Jets, and should make a solid addition to the Falcons' secondary.
Williams skipped workoutWednesday 4/16, 8:23 AM CT
Jimmy Williams decided to skip the second day of the team's optional mini-camp practice on Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. He was the only player under contract not in attendance.

Our View: That was a bad move, as the 2006 draft pick has failed to make an impact with the team, and is yet to crack the starting lineup.
Williams not happy playing SAM Wednesday 4/16, 8:16 AM CT
D.J. Williams was not happy with being shuffled around and being forced to play on the strong-side at linebacker, according to the Rocky Mountain News. He will be moved back to his natural weaks-side spot in 2008 and stated, "Sometimes you do things that are best for the team and it's not best for you. I feel like if I played one position all four years, I could probably be the top guy at my position or one of the top guys at the weak-side position. Changing every year kind of stunts your growth. But at the same time, I've got knowledge. I haven't been happy about the movement. I already feel like a little knock-around guy, like hey, we can put him here, we can throw him there. But just as long as I was successful at the position. The only position I didn't like playing was 'Sam' (strong side). I hated 'Sam.' But the thing about that is I had the size to play strong-sde."

Our View: Williams was a standout rookie while playing on the weak-side, and his fantasy stock is back on the rise. He should rank as a solid sleeper candidate for 2008.
Ryan on Panthers' radar at 13 Wednesday 4/16, 8:10 AM CT
Matt Ryan is on the Panthers' radar and they hope he can fall to their 13th slot in the draft, according to the Charlotte Observer. GM Marty Hurney stated, "He has all the intangibles. Great kid. Very good leader. Is the type of guy who takes his linemen and his teammates out to dinner, but then can also get on them if things aren't going right during the game. His arm is plenty strong enough. Has been very successful wherever he's played, has not only had good individual production, but was really a big reason for the success of his team." The team would also take him at number one if they had the top pick, and may ultimately trade up to land him.
