Lions sign PinnerWednesday 4/30, 11:21 PM CT
The Detroit Lions have signed RB Artose Pinner , a free agent formerly with the New Orleans Saints, to a one-year contract, according to MichiganLive.com. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Our View: Local reporters view this decision as an announcement to every rusher on the roster, not including recently-drafted Kevin Smith: Your job is on the line.
Browns claim Cargile off waiversWednesday 4/30, 11:16 PM CT
The Cleveland Browns have been awarded safety Steve Cargile , claimed via waivers from the Denver Broncos, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: Cargile comes from the Cleveland area and has spent the last two seasons as a backup safety and special-team contributor for the Denver Broncos.
Free agent DE Scott arrestedWednesday 4/30, 11:10 PM CT
Free-agent defensive end Darrion Scott has been arrested, charged with "probable cause felony assault," according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View: Scott is not currently under employment for any NFL team, having completed his rookie contract with the Minnesota Vikings who have chosen not to offer him a new deal. The New England Patriots had Scott in for a visit in March.
Bears eyeing QB situation in Tampa BayWednesday 4/30, 6:43 PM CT
With a short list of less-than-attractive options at QB in Chicago, reports have surfaced suggesting the team is keeping a close eye on the status of Tampa Bay's Chris Simms , according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View: The Bucs currently own the rights to seven different passers, and David Haugh of the Tribune reports the Bears are hoping to see Simms cut loose from the frenzied mess. Haugh suggests the Bears are likely to give consideration to Luke McCown and Bruce Gradkowski as well if they were set free from the Bucs' roster. None of those options are likely to excite the fans of Chicago, but at this point, any addition with experience would be of benefit.
Fasano to benefit from new system?Wednesday 4/30, 1:01 PM CT
The tight end position to going to be emphasized in Miami under offensive coordinator Dan Henning, and Anthony Fasano could benefit, according to the Sun-Sentinel. The team is looking for a tight end who can block as well as be a pass-catching specialist.

Our View: The winner of the starting gig at tight end could hold solid fantasy value, and Fasano will battle last year's starter David Martin, as well as Justin Peelle.
Jordan has trade value? Wednesday 4/30, 12:53 PM CT
The Raiders are reportedly hanging on to running back LaMont Jordan because some in the organization think they can still get trade value for a guy who ran for 1,025 yards in 2005, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Right now, teams are more likely to wait for Jordan to be released so they can sign him at a low price. Jordan only averaged 3.8 yards over 144 carries in 2007.
Seahawks to go with RB by committeeWednesday 4/30, 12:47 PM CT
The Seahawks are going to employ a running back by committee approach this season, which new rusher Julius Jones is used to while splitting the workload with Marion Barber in Seattle, according to The Tacoma News Tribune.

Our View: While Jones' fantasy value won't improve much while in Seattle with a committee approach, it will keep him healthier over the course of the season. Maurice Morris would likely see an increase in carries, and he will benefit from the RBBC approach, however. TJ Duckett should establish himself as the short-yardage specialist.
Alexander wants to join Bengals?Wednesday 4/30, 12:01 PM CT
Shaun Alexander said he is interested in finishing his career with his home town Bengals, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He will turn 31 in August, and has limited time left in the NFL.

Our View: Rudi Johnson had trouble staying healthy last season, and there is concern about his durability for 2008, but the team is still invested in Chris Perry, and Kenny Watson looked good at times as well. Alexander doesn't really fit in Cincinnati, when you also factor that former second round pick Kenny Irons will be in the mix when he is healthy.
Tripplett lands in Seattle Wednesday 4/30, 11:54 AM CT
Larry Tripplett has been added to the Seahawks mix at defensive tackle, according to the Tacoma News Tribune. He has been released by the Bills in the off-season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: He will provide the Seahawks with a big body in the middle of their defensive line, and has been added as insurance for Marcus Tubbs, who is trying to bounce back from a surgically repaired ACL. This was a good acquisition for Seattle, but his fantasy value remains limited.
Fifita cut Wednesday 4/30, 8:37 AM CT
Steve Fifita has been cut by the Dolphins, according to the Sun Sentinel. Fifita is 6 feet, 320 pounds, and does not fit the size needed to be an effective nose tackle in the Dolphins' anticipated new 3-4 defense.

Our View: The team drafted three defensive linemen, led by Phillip Merling. Kendall Langford and Lionel Dotson are the others.
Baker releasedWednesday 4/30, 8:31 AM CT
Matt Baker has been released by the Dolphins, according to the Sun Sentinel. He spent the last two seasons on the Cowboys' and Cardinals' practice squads, and was added by Miami earlier in the year as an extra arm for practice.

Our View: The team drafted Michigan quarterback Chad Henne in the second round, and no longer had a use for Baker as a practice quarterback. Henne will split reps with John Beck and Josh McCown during camp.
Calico faces indictment Wednesday 4/30, 7:57 AM CT
Tyrone Calico faces indictment on drunken driving charges after a judge Tuesday sent his case to the grand jury, according to the AP. Calico was arrested just before 3 a.m. on February 20, and charged with drunken driving and implied consent. Police said Calico weaved over the center line before they pulled him over. He admitted drinking, and refused a breathalyzer test. He said during a recess that he was working to clear the charges because his knee is feeling better and he is scheduled to play for Calgary this season in the CFL.

Our View: Calico had great size at 6-4, and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34, and flashed great potential in Tennessee, but he could not overcome knee and hamstring injuries, and was ultimately released prior to the 2006 season.
Glenn has 50-50 shot to start in 2008Wednesday 4/30, 7:40 AM CT
Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones stated that vet Terry Glenn has a 50-50 shot to start in 2008, according to The Dallas Morning News.

Our View: Glenn can still be productive if his surgically repaired knee allows, but Patrick Crayton (50-697-7) had a solid campaign in 2007 and would be the early favorite to start opposite Terrell Owens this season. The team could still trade for a receiver as well.
Hali can reach double digits in sacks?Wednesday 4/30, 7:06 AM CT
Gunther Cunningham thinks Tamba Hali can reach double digits in sacks this season, according to the Kansas City Star. Cunningham said, "I’m not going to say Tamba Hali is going to get 15 sacks because he’s playing on the right side. I have to let that play out. The thing we need to find out is how comfortable he’ll feel on the right side. With all of the skills he’s shown, he’s certainly shown he can be a double-digit sack guy over there." Cunningham also said Hali was a force rushing the passer all season long in 2007, even though he only reached 7.5 sacks.

Our View: The presence of rookie defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey will help Hali make plays and get to the passer, as offensive linemen won't be able to double team Hail, and will have to worry about Dorsey. Hali is in line for a strong campaign, and his IDP value is on the rise.
