NEWSBREAKERS NFL
Culter diagnosed with diabetesThursday 5/1, 11:47 PM CT
Jay Cutler has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes that will require daily insulin shots, but his NFL career is not in jeopardy, according to NFL.com.

Our View: With proper medication Culter should be able to play without restrictions, though there is always the chance that this could become a concern at some point based upon a myriad of factors. Until we have more details we cannot comment on the specifics of the situation, but for now we are operating under the assumption that he should be fine.
Lito not headed to JaguarsThursday 5/1, 8:05 PM CT
In direct opposition to a previous report, Lito Sheppard will not be moved to the Jaguars, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. However, this does not mean he will remain with the Eagles.

Our View: Lito will almost certainly be moved even if it isn't to a Jaguars squad in need of depth in the defensive secondary.
Culpepper not headed to Green BayThursday 5/1, 5:38 PM CT
Daunte Culpepper was rumored to be considering signing a deal with the Packers but it doesn't look like that will happen, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette. The report states that Culpepper still believes he is a starter and that his skills don't match up with what the Packers are trying to do on offense.

Our View: The Packers are still searching for some veteran depth at the QB position, but it looks like Culpepper won't be that man as he continues his nomadic NFL journey.
Jackson to have a role on offenseThursday 5/1, 5:31 PM CT
DeSean Jackson will likely begin the year as the Eagles punt returner, but the big news is that the offense might include some plays specifically designed for him, this according to the Eagles Official Website.

Our View: Not really a shock consider the team selected Jackson to be their return man, and it's really not much a stretch to think they will work up some plays to take advantage of Jackson's speed in the open field.
More trouble for Pacman? Thursday 5/1, 3:33 PM CT
A man charged with shooting three people outside a Las Vegas strip club denies he was involved, and accused suspended defensive back Pacman Jones of ordering the shooting and framing him to avoid identifying the real shooter, according to the Dallas Morning News. Arvin Kenti Edwards of Renton, Washington, is being held in a Washington state jail on $1 million bail pending extradition to Nevada. He talked with station WTVF-TV in Nashville by phone for a report that aired Wednesday. Edwards told the TV station that Jones lied to police about the Feb. 19, 2007, shooting at the Minxx club that left an employee paralyzed and two other people injured. Edwards claimed Jones paid someone for the shooting but that it wasn't him. He accused Pacman of lying to help his plea deal as Jones tries to return to the NFL.

Our View: This news will not help his chances to get reinstated by the league.
Brooks accused of punching womanThursday 5/1, 3:27 PM CT
Ahmad Brooks has been accused of punching a Florence woman in the face, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Brooks has been summoned to appear June 6 in Boone District Court to answer to the charges. Destiny Rosich gave a sworn statement Wednesday that Brooks was arguing outside her neighbor’s home on April 9. She said her children were outside playing and began to cry because Brooks and the neighbor were about to start a fist fight. Brooks reportedly told the neighbor that he was going to "split his head open." Rosich said she "nicely approached" Brooks to take it somewhere else but, "He then pulled back his fist and struck (punched) me in the left eye. I then fell and blacked out."

Our View: Why can't the Bengals players stay out of trouble?
Bills claim Baker off waivers Thursday 5/1, 2:28 PM CT
The Bills have claimed quarterback Matt Baker off waivers, according to BuffaloBills.com. Baker has been bounced around by the Texans, Cowboys, Cardinals, Saints, and most recently the Dolphins prior to landing in Buffalo.

Our View: He will serve as nothing more than a practice arm in Buffalo, and holds no fantasy value.
Rogers injury update Thursday 5/1, 2:22 PM CT
Carlos Rogers is not expected to participate fully in the May 2-4 mini-camp, according to HogsHaven.com. Rogers is recovering from knee ligament surgery, and his availability for training camp and preseason is also uncertain. Rogers has targeted the 2008 season opener for his return, though.

Our View: Earlier in April, it was believed that Rogers would start the season on the PUP list. He will rank as a risky fantasy prospect for 2008.
Schlegel released Thursday 5/1, 2:16 PM CT
Anthony Schlegel has been released by the Bengals, according to ProFootballTalk. Linebacker Roy Manning was also released.

Our View: Schlegel only made 33 tackles in 2007, and held no fantasy value prior to his release.
Keller invited to Buccaneers' minicampThursday 5/1, 2:08 PM CT
Undrafted rookie quarterback Sam Keller (Nebraska) has been invited to the Buccaneers' minicamp, according to ProFootballTalk. Keller will be one of two rookie quarterbacks at the minicamp, alongside Josh Johnson, who Tampa Bay drafted out of San Diego in the fifth round.

Our View: Keller is most likely just a camp arm to help with passing drills, but if he shows some potential, Gruden could add him to their quarterback mix for training camp. Keller displays good athleticism and a quick release, but is inconsistent and makes too many poor decisions. The team has Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, Luke McCown, Bruce Gradkowski, Chris Simms and Jake Plummer under contract.
Alexander to visit Bengals Thursday 5/1, 1:43 PM CT
Shaun Alexander will visit the Bengals on Monday, according to Bengals.com. His agent said the visit is "very preliminary," and added, "Shaun wants to get an idea how the Bengals would use him and I'm sure the Bengals would like to talk to him. But there is interest on both sides."

Our View: Alexander previously commented that he would like to finish his career with his home town Bengals, but he doesn't really fit in Cincinnati. They don't have much money under the cap to offer him, and are already set at running back with Rudi Johnson, Chris Perry, Kenny Watson, and last year's second round pick Kenny Irons. Alexander only averaged 3.5 yards over 207 carries in 2007, and there remains doubt that he can still be an effective rusher in the NFL.
Big Ben pleased with Steelers' draftThursday 5/1, 12:10 PM CT
Ben Roethlisberger is pleased with the Steelers' 2008 draft, and they notably granted his request to add a big and tall receiver (Limas Sweed of Texas), according to ProFootballTalk. He said, "I like the draft, we did a good job all around."

Our View: Hines Ward cannot be pleased with the addition of Sweed, but he is big (6-4 212) and fast (ran 40 in 4.55) and will provide Roethlisberger with the big receiver he has been asking for. Big Ben broke out with 3154 passing yards and 32 touchdowns in 2007, and he still has room to improve on those numbers. Sweed should make an impact as a fantasy rookie as well, and will be a good prospect to target in keeper leagues.
K-Rob not guaranteed a spot Thursday 5/1, 9:06 AM CT
Packers' GM Ted Thompson has stated that Koren Robinson is not guaranteed a spot on the roster this season, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The Packers have 13 wide receivers on their 80-man roster right now, and Thompson couldn't say that there would be room much longer for Koren Robinson, and he added, "We're still kind of working through our roster. We're not letting anybody go. We'll see how it works itself out."

Our View: Robinson has a bone-on-bone knee problem that likely isn't going to go away, and rookie Jordy Nelson out of Kansas State will push Robinson for his spot on the roster.
Shockey does not attend visit Thursday 5/1, 8:13 AM CT
Jeremy Shockey did not attend the Giants' visit to the White House on Wednesday, according to the Newark Star Ledger. Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora also were not in attendance.

Our View: It remains to be seen if the Giants will still be able to deal Shockey after the draft. The team actually played better during their magical Super Bowl run with rookie Kevin Boss as their starter.
McKelvin will play at CB immediately Thursday 5/1, 8:06 AM CT
Leodis McKelvin will play immediately at cornerback, but will see action on special teams as well, according to Buffalo News. McKelvin was considered to be the best return specialist in the draft, and had eight return touchdowns (seven on punts) over his career at Troy. Special teams coach Bobby April said, "He’s a hungry guy in terms of wanting to return the ball, and that’s a huge plus. And he’s good. We have two very good guys, but he’s not taking a back seat to anybody. Leodis will have his work cut out for him, but so will Terrence and Roscoe."

Our View: The Bills already have a great return game with Terrence McGee on kickoffs and Roscoe Parrish on punts, but McKelvin should make their special teams even better. So McKelvin should make an impact as a playmaker on defense, as well as special teams this season.
