NEWSBREAKERS NFL
Chargers express interest in Taylor Saturday 5/24, 9:06 AM CT
Apparently you can add the Chargers to the growing list of teams interested in the services of Jason Taylor, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: As is the case with all rumors, there are unofficial, official reports on both sides saying a deal could happen and that it's pure fiction. The truth likely lies somewhere in between. Adding fuel to the rumor is the fact that former Dolphins GM Randy Mueller has now joined the Chargers as an assistant to their GM, A.J. Smith.
Drew impressing coaching staff with workSaturday 5/24, 9:01 AM CT
Drew Carter, and not Javon Walker, has been making waves so far in camp with his solid play, according to a report on Pro Football Weekly. The report states that Walker showed up to camp out of shape and that Carter, originally signed to serve as the teams WR3, has shown a nice rapport with JaMarcus Russell in the early going.

Our View: Walker is coming off another knee surgery so he can be forgiven for showing up a bit out of shape. Face it, the Raiders didn't give Walker a bazillion dollars to not heavily involve him in the offense. Still, Carter could end up seeing a fair bit of time in the slot and could be worth targeting late in a fantasy draft.
Dayne trys out for squadSaturday 5/24, 8:56 AM CT
Ron Dayne had what is being called an "impressive" visit to the Titans, but there are no immediate plans to sign him, according to the Tennessean. Kevin Jones was also present for a tryout.

Our View: Dayne would appear to be the better option of the two to join the Titans, but neither back figures to have much value if they do given that the Titans already have at least three options ahead of whomever they sign in LenDale White, Chris Johnson and Chris Henry.
Kevin Jones on team's radarSaturday 5/24, 8:54 AM CT
Kevin Jones had what is being called an "impressive" visit to the Titans, but there are no immediate plans to sign him, according to the Tennessean. Ron Dayne was also brought in for a tryout. "They are obviously both proven players in the league and are possibilities for us if we put ourselves in a position where we need (a running back),'' HC Mike Fisher said.

Our View: Dayne will likely sign on with someone before Jones who still has to prove that he is recovered from the knee injury that knocked him out of action last year.
Youngster looking to make mark at WRSaturday 5/24, 8:50 AM CT
WR Paul Williams was drafted last season and didn't see any game action, yet he has been impressive so far with the Titans, according to the Tennessean. "Last year I kind of got humbled a little bit. I thought I was better than I really was and I didn't get on the field. This year I've got to swallow my pride and work hard like everybody else and hopefully shine."

Our View: The Titans are extremely thin at WR, and it would appear that Williams could have a shot to see some substantial playing time since he only has to battle the likes of Mike Williams, Justin McCareins and Lavelle Hawkins for playing time.
Williams injures ankle at practiceSaturday 5/24, 8:46 AM CT
Mike Williams tweaked his ankle during one on one's on Friday and as a result was forced to sit out most of practice the rest of the day , accroding to the Nashville City Paper. The injury did not appear serious as he stayed on to watch the rest of practice.

Our View: The former first round draft pick may be getting his last chance to prove himself after failing miserably to make his mark the past couple of seasons. The Titans need help at wide receiver, so if he isn't able to make it here he likely will have all the time he wants to sit on his couch and eat ding dongs.
Crumpler redidicates himself to the gameSaturday 5/24, 8:42 AM CT
Alge Crumpler has shown up with his new team rededicated to the game of football, according to the Nashville City Paper. “My last couple of off-seasons had been kind of filled with rehab,” Crumpler said. “I had shoulder surgery three years ago. I had knee surgery the last couple of years, and I didn’t have anything this year. That time has allowed my body to kind of heal up. I feel good"

Our View: Crumpler showed up with 15 fewer pounds on his frame and now more closely resembles the 262 lbs he is listed at in the media guide rather than looking like a body double for the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Look for him to develop a rapport with Vince Young and to be a decent lower end tight end option this season.
Lemon struggling with new teamSaturday 5/24, 8:36 AM CT
Cleo Lemon, who joined the Jaguars at the end of February, has had a hard time picking up the teams offensive system at OTA's, according to the Florida Times-Union. "Cleo is going to be fine," OC Dirk Koetter said. "He's just having to go through a lot of adjustments mentally, which comes with being in a new system."

Our View: According to the report Todd Bouman is more comfortable right now in the offense, but the expectation is for Lemon to eventually get up to speed and to serve as the backup to starter David Garrard.
Benson sentenced for speedingSaturday 5/24, 8:28 AM CT
As if he doesn't already have enough on his plate, Cedric Benson was in court on Thursday to pay a $510 fine for speeding, he was tagged for going 77 in a 45 mph zone, according to the Chicago Sun Times. Benson was also given four months of supervision by the court for the incident which apparently occurred some time in April.

Our View: We want to believe that everyone is innocent until proven guilty, this is America however, but when these players just keep getting busted over and over, it's hard to believe what they are selling sometimes. Regardless, Benson has to have just about worn out his welcome in Chicago - he really can't afford any other slip ups.
Howard to help out FreeneySaturday 5/24, 8:23 AM CT
Marcus Howard may be asked to take some of the pass rushing load off of Dwight Freeney this season, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View: Freeney is coming back off his foot injury and will likely need to be spelled, at least early on, making the presence of Howard a nice luxury. Look for the raw Howard to use his quickness to compensate for his lack of ideal size (237 lbs).
Jackson finally healthy?Saturday 5/24, 8:16 AM CT
WR Chad Jackson might finally be healthy enough to fulfill his once bright future, according to Pro Football Talk. There is also growing talk that if he is healthy he could overtake Jabar Gafney as the team's wide reciever.

Our View: Jackson, a second round pick in 2006, has been limited to just 13 receptions his first two seasons as he has just not been able to get himself well enough to get out on the field. He certainly possesses the physical tools needed to succeed in the NFL, but it's very hard to predict a potential breakout given his track record.
