Alexander not on Broncos radarSunday 5/25, 11:56 PM CT
All has been quiet on the Shaun Alexander front recently and it could remain that way, according to ESPN. At least one team that has been mentioned as a potential suitor is moving away from the idea of bringing in Alexander. According to a Denver source, the former Seattle star running back is not on the Broncos' radar at this point although the notion isn't 100 percent dead.

Our View: Denver had one conversation with Alexander's agent a few weeks ago, but the organization is satisfied with their tailback crew. Alexander, who has visited New Orleans and Cincinnati, may have to wait for a team to suffer an injury before getting signed.
Browns not interested in Sheppard? Sunday 5/25, 1:29 PM CT
The Browns are among the thinnest clubs in the NFL at the cornerback position, but are not showing interest in Lito Sheppard, according to BleedingGreenNation.com. The Browns lost Leigh Bodden to the Lions, and Daven Holly to injury, and team GM Phil Savage said he would be interested in a low-end trade for a cornerback, and Sheppard is not a realistic option. Savage added, "I would say it's highly unlikely we would stretch our budget to go get a Lito Sheppard. I would say he and Ty Law are probably out of the mix."

Our View: Savage is believed to be content with using Brandon McDonald and Eric Wright as the Browns' starting cornerback tandem, and is really just looking to add quality depth to compete for the backup spots.
Rookie Bell could push DavisSunday 5/25, 9:33 AM CT
Rookie Beau Bell (UNLV) could push declining veteran Andra Davis for playing time at inside linebacker this season, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Bell will also compete with Leon Williams. D'Qwell Jackson had the best OTA sessions among the inside linebackers, and his spot in the starting lineup is safe and won't be contested.

Our View: Bell has great speed and range and excels at defending the run, but needs work on his run/pass recognition skills and can be fooled by the play-action. Bell could rack up a favorable amount of tackles in Cleveland, but should be in a time-share as a rookie, and could be a liability in pass coverage, which will cut his playing time down a bit more. He is a solid keeper league prospect, but won't likely make a strong impact right away as a rookie in 2008.
Savage praises McDonald Sunday 5/25, 9:25 AM CT
Browns' GM Phil Savage has been very pleased with the prospect of Brandon McDonald replacing the injured Daven Holly as a starting cornerback this season, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Savage said, "McDonald had an outstanding two weeks of organized team activities, and I'm not just saying that because of Holly's injury. He was pushing to start with Holly healthy."

Our View: The team is still looking for a veteran cornerback, but as of now McDonald and Eric Wright are the acting starters. McDonald made two interceptions last season, and his fantasy stock is on the rise.
Lewis is in excellent condition Sunday 5/25, 9:21 AM CT
Jamal Lewis showed up in excellent physical condition and had a solid camp for the Browns, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View: The club is very optimistic about the 28-year old bruiser racking up another 1,000 yard campaign. He is coming off a strong 2007 season, as he broke loose for 1,304 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, along with 30 receptions for another 248 yards and two scores. He should rank as a safe fantasy prospect for 2008.
Gabriel has great shot to make team Sunday 5/25, 9:09 AM CT
Doug Gabriel reportedly has a great shot of making the Bengals' roster this season, according to the Dayton Daily News. He has looked very impressive during workouts.

Our View: Gabriel racked up 30 catches for 428 yards and three scores with Oakland in 2007, and should provide Carson Palmer with another favorable weapon, and could help ease the void in the receiving corps beyond studs Chad Johnson and TJ Houshmandzadeh following the departure of Chris Henry. Gabriel could battle Antonio Chatman (who excels on special teams), and rookie Andre Caldwell for the slot role as the number three receiver.
Henderson in jeopardy of being cut? Sunday 5/25, 8:59 AM CT
Devery Henderson could be in jeopardy of being cut by the Saints, according to The New Orleans Times-Picayune. The Saints have their top five receivers back from last season with starters Marques Colston and David Patten, with Lance Moore and Terrance Copper, and Henderson. Robert Meachem is impressing the Saints' staff in the early going of the off-season, and he will push Henderson for his number three role in the slot. The team also likes seventh-round pick Adrian Arrington.

Our View: Henderson has been inconsistent over four seasons with the Saints, as he namely drops too many passes, and is believed to be in the most jeopardy of being cut. He holds solid value as a deep threat, but that may not be enough to keep him in New Orleans.
Edwards plans to break sack recordSunday 5/25, 7:55 AM CT
Ray Edwards said he plans to break the single-season sack record in 2008, according to KSTP-TV in Minnesota. Edwards commented, "I look up to Strahan. I learned a lot from him watching and studying his film. This year I definitely plan on going out here and breaking Strahan's record of 22.5 sacks this year."

Our View: That is a bold statement for a guy who is yet to even win a starting spot. But, if he does start, he would have a great chance to succeed with the elite Jared Allen drawing most of the attention on the other side, and with Pat Williams and Kevin Williams taking up space on the inside. He may not break Strahan's record, but double-digits in sacks seems a realistic expectation for this season. He could rank as a strong sleeper for 2008, assuming he wins a starting job.
Williams slimmed down Sunday 5/25, 7:46 AM CT
Coach Jeff Fisher told Mike Williams to lose weight or else back in January, according to FanNation.com. Williams responded by losing more than 30 pounds, and arrived early to show off his hard work.

Our View: Williams was the 10th overall pick in the 2005 draft, and the Titans will be his third NFL team in four seasons. He knows this will be his last chance to prove his worth in the league, and will have a chance to compete for a solid role as the Titans are among the weakest teams in the NFL at wide receiver.
Peppers in discussion for new deal Sunday 5/25, 7:37 AM CT
Julius Peppers is in talks for a new long-term deal with the Panthers, according to the Rock Hill Herald. The team wants to get a deal done before Peppers becomes a free agent at the end of the 2008 season and his agent (Carl Carey said), "The organization has articulated, both to Julius and to me, that they still have full confidence in his abilities. I have 100-percent confidence that what they're saying to Julius and to me is how they really feel."

Our View: Peppers is reportedly in better shape this season, and looks to bounce back from his disappointing 2007 campaign, when he only registered three sacks.
Porter returned to practice Sunday 5/25, 7:15 AM CT
Jerry Porter has been bothered by a sore ankle, but he was able to return to practice on Saturday, according to The Times Union.

Our View: This is important that he gets as many reps as possible, as he needs to get into rhythm and build chemistry with new quarterback David Garrard in Jacksonville.
