Russell looks shaky, out of shapeTuesday 6/3, 11:27 PM CT
JaMarcus Russell looked shaky at times during the Raiders' first day of minicamps, according to ESPN.com. The report also noted that the QB still looks out of playing shape.

Our View: Russell has loads of physical ability, but he's got a ways to go before fantasy owners can trust him.
Walker still struggling with conditioningTuesday 6/3, 11:24 PM CT
Javon Walker still has a long way to go on his conditioning, according to ESPN.com. The wideout has had trouble getting separation from defenders during OTAs.

Our View: Walker is coming back from microfracture surgery on his right knee. He had surgery to repair a torn ACL in the same knee back in 2005. Will he ever regain that burst that allowed him to post a 1,382-yard, 12-TD campaign? That's very unlikely, but the Raiders would probably be thrilled with 1,000 yards and eight TDs.
Glenn has yet to pass physicalTuesday 6/3, 8:36 PM CT
Terry Glenn and his balky right knee have yet to pass a physical, according to the Star-Telegram. Jerry Jones said Tuesday the Cowboys will wait as long as possible for the wide receiver to sign a $500,000 injury settlement, but it is something that needs to be done if Glenn is going to play in 2008. The Cowboys believe Glenn needs season-ending, and possibly career-ending, microfracture surgery to fully repair his knee, but they're supportive if Glenn wants to try to play through the injury without undergoing an operation.

Our View: Jones is optimistic that they will get Glenn to sign the waiver, but we're not very optimistic that Glenn will make a fantasy contribution this year. Patrick Crayton would receive a boost in fantasy value if Glenn isn't able to stay healthy and on the field.
Burgess shows up at minicampTuesday 6/3, 8:30 PM CT
Derrick Burgess arrived at Raiders minicamp Tuesday. The defensive end wants a pay raise and skipped all voluntary OTAs but will not be skipping any mandatory activities, according to the AP. Burgess appears to be in great shape. "Once again he looks the same as far as running around and movement," coach Lane Kiffin said. "He looked great on a couple of nakeds that were coming out to his side. He's one of those few guys that you never have to worry about not being in shape or ready to play."

Our View: Burgess had a disappointing 2007 campaign and will be looking to get back into double-digit sack territory.
Jordan won't practice with teamTuesday 6/3, 4:34 PM CT
LaMont Jordan with coach Lane Kiffin Tuesday morning and was told he wouldn't practice while the team explores the possibility of trading him, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Our View: With Darren McFadden, Justin Fargas and Michael Bush on the roster, the Raiders have no need for Jordan. However, no one is going to trade for him unless Jordan agrees to re-work his contract, and that isn't likely to happen. The Raiders should just cut him loose, but stubborn Al Davis apparently still thinks he'll find a taker.
Ogden to retire? Tuesday 6/3, 3:20 PM CT
Jonathan Ogden is expected to announce his retirement from the NFL in the coming week, according to the Baltimore Sun. Ogden has informed a few people around him that he is retiring, but is yet to tell head coach John Harbaugh. The Ravens aren't expecting him back regardless.

Our View: Ogden's departure leaves a considerable hole on the left side of the offensive line, and the Ravens have to hope that either Adam Terry or Jared Gaither come through. Terry is better suited for the right side, though. Gaither has potential to be solid, but may be a year or two away.
Stevens likely to be suspended Tuesday 6/3, 2:49 PM CT
Jerramy Stevens is likely to be suspended for two regular season games for a DUI arrest and conviction, according to PewterReport.com. This is the same incident that Stevens was suspended one game for in 2007. Stevens decided to serve the first game of the suspension last year. The NFL had handed down a longer suspension and Stevens chose to serve one game, and appeal the remaining games. He decided not to serve the entire suspension in 2007 to help the team during their playoff run. Stevens elected to appeal the decision and serve the majority of the suspension in 2008.

Our View: Stevens likely will miss Tampa Bay's first two regular season games of the year, at New Orleans on September 7, and the home opener against Atlanta on September 14. This shouldn't hurt him in his bid to earn the starting job at tight end this season.
Engram expected at camp Tuesday 6/3, 1:55 PM CT
Bobby Engram skipped another voluntary minicamp session on Monday, but coach Mike Holmgren doesn't think he will be a distraction and expects him for training camp, according to CBSsports.com. Holmgren said, "Absolutely, he will be here at training camp. There is always a chance you will have a contract thing, and we've got that thing with Bobby."

Our View: Engram set new career highs with 94 receptions for 1147 yards in 2007, but the team suffered injuries to Deion Branch and DJ Hackett, and was forced to throw more due to the ineffective play of Shaun Alexander on the ground. He wants more money this season, but the 35-year old vet will be hard-pressed to challenge last season's production again.
Sheppard not in attendance Tuesday 6/3, 1:38 PM CT
Lito Sheppard is not in attendance at the Eagles' first full-team OTA, according to the PhillyBurbs.com.

Our View: If he continues his holdout into training camp, he’ll be fined. And if he starts missing games, he’ll lose weekly paychecks of nearly $120,000. The Eagles would like to deal Sheppard, but they’re in no hurry to make a move without getting fair value in return. He is a former first-team All-Pro and he is only 26 years old.
Herron fought off burglars Tuesday 6/3, 1:31 PM CT
Noah Herron reportedly fought off two burglars who entered his home, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He struck one with a bed post that he unscrewed from his bed last weekend. The intruder was injured during the May 30th burglary and a second offender was apprehended outside the home by Brown County Sheriff's deputies, according to information released by the Brown County Sheriff's Department today. Herron was not hurt during the invasion, and he used necessary and acceptable force to defend his home.

Our View: He shall now be nicknamed "Dirty Herron" following this incident.
Owens comments on Parcells Tuesday 6/3, 1:23 PM CT
Terrell Owens decided to comment on coach Bill Parcells regarding the way he is handling Jason Taylor, according to the Dallas Morning News. Owens thinks Parcells is out of touch with today's athletes, and remarked, "I think he plays too many head games with a lot of people. What Jason was doing was beneficial for him (regarding his stint on Dancing with the Stars). It's not football-related, it has to do with his personal life. Coach Parcells is way off base to criticize and call Jason out in the manner that he has. They're starting to realize he is kind of out of touch with a lot of today's athletes and things that are going on."

Our View: There was speculation of a deal that would bring Jason Taylor to Dallas, in a swap for Greg Ellis, which would make he and Owens team-mates.
Shockey will report to camp Tuesday 6/3, 1:15 PM CT
Jeremy Shockey is expected to report to the team, according to Newsday. He plans to show up for next week's minicamp from June 11-13.

Our View: Shockey was unhappy with his contract and wanted to be dealt, but he would be subject to fines if he misses the mandatory minicamp. This is a good sign that he will remain with the Giants, but he is yet to make a statement in that regard.
Johnson says he'll return to Cincy Tuesday 6/3, 12:49 PM CT
Chad Johnson is no longer demanding a trade and said he will be returning to the Bengals shortly, according to ESPN.com. Johnson stated, "Am I coming back? Of course I am. I told my coaches I'm going to California to act, but the truth is I may come back to the Bengals as early as June. I may be crazy but I'm not stupid."

Our View: His demand for a trade was due to frustration following the Bengals' disappointing 7-9 2007 campaign. Johnson could be expected at training camp, and seemingly respects the Bengals for not giving in to his trade demand. Another strong season is to be expected of him in 2008, which will be as a member of the Bengals.
Saints ink Butler Tuesday 6/3, 12:13 PM CT
Jerametrius Butler has inked a deal with the Saints, according to the AP. Butler has spent six seasons with the Rams, and one with Buffalo, in 2007. Financial terms and length of the deal were not disclosed.

Our View: Mike McKenzie and Jason David (last season's starters) were both limited by injuries in the off-season, and Butler was added for depth. Butler could push David for playing time, and potentially even his starting spot, and he will be tracked through training camp.
Robertson has returned to practice Tuesday 6/3, 12:07 PM CT
Dewayne Robertson has been rehabbing knee and wrist ailments, but participated in his first full offseason practice on Monday, according to the Denver Post. Robertson said, "It felt good. I went full-go. We've just got to take the coaching and keep progressing."

Our View: If healthy, Robertson will help solidify the Broncos' defensive line, which was their most glaring need heading into the off-season. The Broncos like to generate pressure from the inside, so he could improve upon his four sacks of 2007.
Jordan plans to attend camp Tuesday 6/3, 12:00 PM CT
LaMont Jordan plans to attend the Raiders' upcoming mandatory minicamp, according to the SF Chronicle. Jordan avoided all voluntary workouts up to this point, and many wondered if he would be released by now. Jordan's agent said, "He plans to be there. As of right now, LaMont is a Raider and will be in Oakland for all mandatory minicamps."

Our View: Prized rookie Darren McFadden sits atop the Raiders' depth chart, with Justin Fargas firmly planted as the primary backup. Michael Bush is the likely candidate for the number three spot. Owner Al Davis reportedly wants to keep Jordan, so a rival (like Denver) can't scoop him up. The team is still hoping to trade him, but his value won't likely be very high, especially since he only averaged 3.8 yards per carry in 2007. If he remains in Oakland, he would hold no fantasy value as a number four running back.
Moss back at practice Tuesday 6/3, 11:49 AM CT
Santana Moss had been battling a case of the flu, but is reportedly healthy again, and returned to the field for Tuesday's OTA, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: Moss has had durability issues over his career, but is an elite receiver when healthy. Moss should excel in Jim Zorn's quick-strike West Coast offense this season, if he can just avoid the injury bug.
Landry attends OTA Tuesday Tuesday 6/3, 11:43 AM CT
LaRon Landry attended Tuesday's OTA sessions with the Redskins, according to the Washington Post.

Our View: He missed Monday's first OTA, but is now on the field and practicing. Shawn Springs remains absent, however. Landry made 95 tackles (63 solo) as a rookie in 2007 and looks to make a bigger impact in his second season.
Hardwick to miss first monthTuesday 6/3, 10:36 AM CT
Nick Hardwick, who is recovering from surgery on his severely sprained right foot, is expected to miss the first month of the regular season, according to the North County Times.

Our View: Hardwick is the starting center, and this injury has fantasy significance, as the timing of the Chargers' offensive line will be compromised, which will lead to more false start penalties. That will in turn make it harder to convert first downs, and rack up yards and points.
Colbert has recovered from injuryTuesday 6/3, 10:30 AM CT
Keary Colbert has recovered from his hamstring ailment and is back at practice for the Broncos, according to the Denver Post.

Our View: Colbert is projected to be a starter at receiver alongside Brandon Marshall this season, and the team is pleased that his injury was minor and he is back in action.
Mitchell could compete for WLB job?Tuesday 6/3, 10:25 AM CT
Marvin Mitchell could compete with Scott Shanle for the starting gig at weak-side linebacker this season, according to the Biloxi Sun Herald. He saw some action with the first-team at middle linebacker, and Coach Sean Payton likes his hard-hitting ability.

Our View: Vilma is locked into the starting spot in the middle, and Fujita has a firm grasp on the strong-side. Mitchell will compete for the weak-side spot, but lacks the speed needed to effectively handle the position, so Shanle should be safe. Mitchell only made nine tackles as a rookie in 2007.
Springs may not report until camp Tuesday 6/3, 7:53 AM CT
Shawn Springs has told some people that he may not report to the Redskins until training camp, according to the Washington Post. Springs is working out in Arizona, as he did last season as well.

Our View: Coach Jim Zorn was displeased with Springs' absence from the OTA sessions, but they are voluntary, and the well-seasoned vet did not see the need in attending.
White given July 29 court date Tuesday 6/3, 7:45 AM CT
LenDale White has been given a July 29 court date, according to the Tennessean. He is facing charges of interference, resistance, refusal of an officer and destruction of property, but none holds a worse penalty than a fine.

Our View: The Titans begin training camp July 25. Hopefully White will stay out of trouble following his court date.
Team uncertain about Branch Tuesday 6/3, 7:26 AM CT
The Seahawks are uncertain when Deion Branch might be able to practice, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He is recovering from ACL surgery. Coach Mike Holgren said, "Anybody that says they know exactly when he's going to be ready, it's a good guess but it's a guess. So right now, I'm not thinking much about him. I've got to get my mind-set going on those other guys. When Deion is ready, he'll play and he'll be fine."

Our View: Rehab for his injury nornally takes nine months, meaning he may not be available until mid-season.
