Could Baker be traded?Friday 6/6, 8:04 PM CT
Rich Cimini of the NY Daily News believes there is a good chance the Jets will try to trade disgruntled tight end Chris Baker.

Our View: The Jets added Dustin Keller via the draft and veteran Bubba Franks via free agency and believe Jason Pociask is a fine No. 3 tight end, which means Baker, who has complained about his contract situation, could be expendable.
Henne making stridesFriday 6/6, 4:39 PM CT
Chad Henne made some mental errors during the Dolphins' rookie camp, but he has made strides during minicamp. "He has not gotten lost. I thought he was going to and he hasn't," quarterbacks coach David Lee said in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "I think if there's one thing that strikes me about this kid, one word, he's just unflappable. You chew him out, 'What's the next play.' He takes criticism, 'You got it Coach, give me another one.' There's no sense of throwing anybody else under the bus. There are no excuses with him. He's tough."

Our View: Henne isn't taking as many snaps with the first team as John Beck and Josh McCown, but if he keeps improving he has a chance to battle for the starting job.
Beck's worth ethic impresses coachesFriday 6/6, 4:36 PM CT
To say John Beck's rookie season didn't go well would be putting it nicely. But Beck's coaches have raced about the second-year quarterback's work ethic over the offseason. "I guarantee it, nobody in the league has worked any harder than John Beck," offensive coordinator Dan Henning said in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "From the first day that David Lee came here as a quarterbacks coach, [Beck] has thrown somewhere in the neighborhood between 6,000 and 7,000 balls and if you want to see them we have them all on tape."

Our View: Beck is battling Josh McCown for the starting job in Miami, while rookie Chad Henne is on the outside looking in for the time being.
White working on conditioningFriday 6/6, 2:35 PM CT
LenDale White took part in recent organized activies, and Rototimes sources report that his conditioning was again in question.

Our View: In the big back's defense, he had January knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus. That in itself will slow any player down. White has competition for touches this season. Chris Johnson, and Chris Henry are expected to challenge White this summer.
Smith being moved aroundFriday 6/6, 2:13 PM CT
The 49ers are reportedly giving Justin Smith snaps at right outside linebacker during their organized team activities, this according to Rototimes sources.

Our View: Smith played in the Bengals 43 scheme, and where exactly he best fits in the 49ers 34 is still a question mark for the team.
Lewis returns to practice Friday 6/6, 2:07 PM CT
Marcedes Lewis (knee) participated in practice for the first time this spring, according to Jaguars.com.

Our View: The team has been hush after Lewis was reportedly held out of organized team activities. A knee injury that no one seems to know much about.
Parcells and Taylor meetFriday 6/6, 2:02 PM CT
Dolphins director of football operations Bill Parcells and Jason Taylor met at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale to discuss the defensive ends future with the team, this according to The Palm Beach Post. Details of the conversation were not immediately known according to the report.

Our View: On Thursday the AP reported that the team said they would not trade Taylor for anything less than a third-round pick, so expect the All Pro to be playing in Miami this season.
Klopfenstein misses team workFriday 6/6, 1:55 PM CT
Joe Klopfenstein missed Thursday's OTA due to a back injury, this according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: Klopfenstein has little value as second fiddle to Randy McMichael.
Hall held out of OTAFriday 6/6, 1:50 PM CT
Dante Hall didn't take part in Thursday's OTA due to a strained groin, this according to the St. Louis Post Dispatch.

Our View: Hall has very little fantasy value outside of leagues that reward special team return yards, and even then he's not a lock to make the team this summer.
Jackson misses team workoutFriday 6/6, 1:48 PM CT
Steven Jackson was absent from Thursday's voluntary OTA due to a twisted ankle he suffered two weeks ago, this according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View: According to the report Jackson is also nursing a slight groin pull. Injuries were why Jackson played in only 12 games last year, so these nagging ailments are not what fantasy owners want to see, even if training camp is 45-days away.
Phillips recovery going wellFriday 6/6, 1:19 PM CT
The Chargers concluded a second week of voluntary offseason coaching sessions on Thursday and Philip Rivers is well ahead of scheduled in his knee rehab, this according to the North County Times.

Our View: The report noted that Rivers' recovery has been swift, and that it is hard to believe it was just four-plus months ago that Rivers tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during a playoff victory in Indianapolis. He underwent surgery on Jan. 23. It's always concerning when a player recovers too quickly, almost as concerning as one that doesn't fully recover. Sometimes they believe they can do too much - too soon.
White still being held backFriday 6/6, 1:01 PM CT
The Falcons team website is reporting that wide out Roddy White has been limited in recent Falcons practices in an effort to reduce the strain on a tweaked hamstring. "I feel good," White said Thursday, minutes after finishing six 100-yard trots to help his conditioning. "I think I can go out there and perform at a high level. I want to make the Pro Bowl and I think this is the year I can catch a lot of balls. They have me doing a lot of things in this offense." The offense has changed since the end of his breakout year, and White is currently being utilized in the Z position of Mike Mularkey's offense.

Our View: White finished last season with 83 catches for 1,202 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. His 62 receiving yards in the season finale against Seattle also moved him into fifth place on the team's single-season receiving list. He came just 157 yards from breaking the single-season record (1,358 yards), which is held by Alfred Jenkins (1981).
Johnson to lead RBBCFriday 6/6, 12:58 PM CT
The Bengals team website is reporting that offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski will us an RBBC this year, led by Rudi Johnson . The report notes that Bratkowski did not reveal how the committee will work.

Our View: Currently the Bengals have four running backs on the roster. Johnson, Chris Perry, DeDe Dorsey and Kenny Watson? Then there is Kenny Irons, who underwent knee surgery last year missing his entire rookie season. Regardless of who shares the work with Johnson, this news damages his fantasy value.
McFadden receives 6 years, 60 millionFriday 6/6, 12:29 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Darren McFadden signed a six-year contract that could equal as much as $60 million, according to NFL.com Adam Schefter. This includes $26 million in guaranteed money.

Our View: McFadden was participating in the Raiders' minicamp when the deal was struck. The fact that he was able to square a deal there is a chance now he could become the primary tailback in the offense.
Taylor and Peterson to tandemFriday 6/6, 11:29 AM CT
The Star Tribune reports that Adrian Peterson and Chester Taylor are expected to begin experimenting together in formations that feature both running backs.

Our View: This is actually good news for fantasy owners. The last thing Peterson owners need is for the second-year back to be overused and breakdown. It also means that in deep leagues, Taylor definitely has value.
Scheffler returns to mini-campFriday 6/6, 11:11 AM CT
Tony Scheffler was back at mini-camp on Thursday, this according to the Denver Post. It was his first appearance since reinjuring a bone in his left foot on May 19. "I don't know if it was scar tissue or what, but I heard a pop," Scheffler said. "We've just been a little cautious with it, and it feels good now."

Our View: Scheffler said he will participate in the second half of this minicamp next week and expects to be fully recovered by the time training camp starts in late July.
Schonert takes over Bills offenseFriday 6/6, 10:56 AM CT
New offensive coordinator Turk Schonert didn't envision having the Marshawn Lynch controversy in his first training camp, but he does. Schonert takes over for Steve Fairchild (Colorado State head coach) and will look to improve an offense that ranked 30th in total yards.

Our View: Schonert's M.0. is all about running the football, so the Marshawn Lynch hit and run news will create some issues during the Bills upcoming training camp.
Witnesses put Lynch behind the wheelFriday 6/6, 10:10 AM CT
Two sources told WGRZ.com that a witness has placed Bills Running Back Marshawn Lynch behind the wheel of his S.U.V. at the time of a hit-and-run accident early Saturday morning. An Erie County source, who asked not to be identified, reports that investigators have four witnesses now that say Lynch was driving.

Our View: This does absolutely nothing positive for Lynch's focus towards football, and selfish fantasy owners are sure to be more consumed with his draft day value, rather than the accident itself.
McFadden signs; will report to campFriday 6/6, 10:05 AM CT
The Oakland Raiders have signed their first round pick, running back Darren McFadden . Late Thursday night McFadden reps told the AP that he will report for training camp.

Our View: The Raiders didn't announce the deal's terms, but scheduled a news conference for Friday with McFadden. More details when they're available.
Owens to challenge RiceFriday 6/6, 10:00 AM CT
Terrell Owens told the Dallas Morning News he plans to play into his forties like Jerry Rice. Rice, the NFL's all-time leading receiver and considered by many to be the best player played 21 years for three different teams -- and until he was 42. Before the Cowboys signed Owens to a four-year, $34 million deal this week, Rice's name came up and he told the Jerry Jones he would like to be around for a longtime.

Our View: Owens would like to play that long, and he's conditioned himself to do so, but he will never challenge Rice's records. That said, fantasy owners, most at least, are concerned only with "what have you done for me lately", or this year. A season where Owens will challenge for top fantasy receiver.
Pennington reinventing himselfFriday 6/6, 9:55 AM CT
Chad Pennington is overhauling his throwing mechanics according to The Sporting News. The report notes that heading into the 2008 season, Pennington knows his 65.6 career completion percentage might not be enough to allow him to reclaim the starting job he lost to Clemens eight games into last season. So this offseason, his personal reclamation project began of reinventing himself.

Our View: Unless he can bolster his arm strength, his chances of reclaiming the starting role in New York are slim. His chances of being a fantasy starting option? Even less.
Green had offseason surgeryFriday 6/6, 9:50 AM CT
The Boston Globe reported on Friday morning that Jarvis Green had minor offseason shoulder surgery that has limited his participation this spring.

Our View: The arthroscopic surgery is not expected to limit him when training camp begins in late July.
