Walker apparently victim of robberyMonday 6/16, 11:25 PM CT
Updating an earlier report, Javon Walker was apparently the victim of a robbery on Sunday night that left him injured and unconscious when he was found on the street in Las Vegas on Monday morning, this according to the Associated Press.

Our View: We still have little in the way of details to go on, but we'll continue to monitor the situation and report any developments as they are learned.
Webb to battle for starting spotMonday 6/16, 11:15 PM CT
Most people assume that Devard Darling will start at wide receiver for the Chiefs, but don't count Jeff Webb among them, according to the Kansas City Star. “You have to believe in yourself, work hard and then take advantage of your opportunity. We only have one guaranteed starter, and that’s (Dwayne) Bowe. After that, it’s all about who performs the best.”

Our View: That's the type of attitude all football players should have. Though Webb has had limited success in the NFL, it's not like Darling is an established veteran in his own right so this is a battle to keep a close eye on, though neither figures to make much of an impact given the state of the Chiefs quarterback situation.
Williams ready to help CowboysMonday 6/16, 9:19 PM CT
Roy Williams recently had a discussion with owner Jerry Jones and he is fully committed to helping make the Cowboys a successful team in '08 despite criticism from many of his teammates this off-season, according to the Star Telegram. "I don’t plan on playing for another team. I plan to retire as a member of the Dallas Cowboys. I even talked to Jerry about it. He said don’t even worry about it. He said I am not worried about you performing on the football field."

Our View: Williams has been criticized for a declining skill set that has led some to view him as a liability in the passing game. It's good to hear that Williams is committed to the upcoming season, it's now just a matter of how his skills are utilized that will determine his value.
Bernard resolves domestic violence caseMonday 6/16, 7:58 PM CT
Rocky Bernard's domestic violence case with his ex-girlfriend was resolved with Bernard being given a series of court ordered stipulations to be completed over the next two years, according to the Seattle Times. Bernard will have to stay arrest free, attend domestic violence classes, cannot possess weapons of any kind and must stay away from his former girlfriend.

Our View: Bernard will now be able to focus on football, that is if he can avoid a league mandated suspension, something that seems possible given his plea bargain in this case.
Walker found unconcious in the streetMonday 6/16, 7:53 PM CT
Javon Walker was found unconscious on the street with a fractured orbital bone in Las Vegas, according to Fox News 5. Just how Walker ended up injured is not yet known. On Sunday night Walker was seen at Tryst at the Wynn hotel having a huge party that included 15 bottles of Dom Perignon.

Our View: Further details will be forthcoming as soon as we are made aware of the details of this situation, bu the good news is that he is resting in fair condition.
Johnson will report for campMonday 6/16, 5:22 PM CT
Drew Rosenhouse stated that Chad Johnson will attend the Bengals training camp and honor the contract he signed with the club, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: This appeared to be the likely outcome of this entire fiasco since it began. Of course, thingss could change in the next 13 minutes, so continue to monitor this issue moving forward as Johnson changes his opinion on things on an almost daily basis.
Harrison case still under investigationMonday 6/16, 5:16 PM CT
The shooting that took place outside of the club owned by Marvin Harrison in late April remains unsolved, and the Philadelphia DA is pushing the police department to continue to collect evidence in the case to help resolve the matter, according to ESPN.

Our View: It currently appears as if Harrison's gun was the one used to shoot two adult males, though the police have as of yet been unable to determine who fired the weapon. Even if Harrison isn't charged in the actual shooting, he could still be brought up on misdemeanor charges since it appears that it was his gun that was used in the commission of a crime.
Lynch case to be resolved soon?Monday 6/16, 5:10 PM CT
The hit and run case involving Marshawn Lynch may soon be resolved, according to the Buffalo News. "We are proceeding with our investigation, following all the leads, and we hope it can be resolved sometime this week," District Attorney Frank J. Clark said.

Our View: Even if this case is cleared up, if Lynch is at fault you can bet a civil case will be filed from the young lady who was hit during the accident. Hopefully Lynch can soon focus on football.
Vikings not interested in Rogers? Monday 6/16, 3:19 PM CT
The Star Tribune is stating that the Vikings are not interested in Charles Rogers, despite Rogers' former high school coach claiming that the Vikings have scheduled him for a workout.

Our View: Rogers made a verbal agreement to play with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL last month, but he never actually signed a contract and didn't attend the training camp that started on May 29.
Colvin inks deal with Texans Monday 6/16, 2:50 PM CT
Rosevelt Colvin has been signed by the Texans, according to the HoustonTexans.com. Financial terms and the length of the deal were not disclosed. Colvin said, "I think just the opportunity to come to a new team, a fresh start, something different is exciting to me. That’s sort of icing on the cake with the young guys that they have that they’ve been able to develop the last couple of years on the defensive side of the ball."

Our View: Colvin passed his physical in Houston, and the Texans believe the healthy 30-year-old will excel in their defensive scheme as an edge rusher that can complement defensive end Mario Williams, who broke out with 14 sacks in 2007. The team may not use Colvin as an every-down linebacker. instead, he could be used as a situational rusher on passing downs. Colvin has 52.5 sacks over his nine years of NFL service so far, with four coming with New England in 2007.
Hairston waived Monday 6/16, 2:38 PM CT
Justise Hairston has been waived by the Colts, according to StampedeBlue.com.

Our View: The running back was a sixth-round pick of the Patriots in 2007, and suffered a preseason hamstring injury before eventually being signed to the Colts' practice squad. He will be hard-pressed to catch on with another club this season.
Brian Smith waived Monday 6/16, 1:27 PM CT
Defensive end Brian Smith has been waived by Jacksonville, according to Jaguars.com.

Our View: Smith, who was a fourth-round pick in 2007, spent his rookie season on injured reserve due to a hip injury. He could catch on with another club, if he proves to be healthy.
Thorpe waived by Jaguards Monday 6/16, 1:21 PM CT
Wide receiver Craphonso Thorpe has been waived by Jacksonville, according to Jaguars.com.

Our View: Thorpe failed to make an impact during his stint with the Chiefs, and had very little chance to make the Jaguars.
Marcus Vick free on bond Monday 6/16, 12:54 PM CT
Marcus Vick, who was charged with a DUI, is free on bond ($1,000), according to the AP. In addition to driving under the influence, Vick was charged with misdemeanor counts of eluding police, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license.

Our View: Vick's court date has been rescheduled to September 10.
Dorsey to be limited Monday 6/16, 12:48 PM CT
DeDe Dorsey, who is nursing a severely strained hamstring, is expected to be limited at the beginning of training camp on July 28, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Our View: Dorsey is in a tough spot to make the Bengals' roster, as the team is crowded and talented at the running back position, and even undrafted rookie James Johnson is performing well in practice and is a contender to make the club.
Utecht to see plenty of action Monday 6/16, 12:39 PM CT
Reggie Kelly will be the Bengals' starting tight end, but newly acquired Ben Utecht will see plenty of action in two-TE sets, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: Utecht developed a fine chemistry with Peyton Manning, and hauled in 31 receptions for 364 yards and a score in his final campaign in Indianapolis in 2007. Utecht could make a solid impact with the Bengals this season, and is worth a look in larger leagues.
Fitzpatrick has not been sharp Monday 6/16, 12:33 PM CT
Ryan Fitzpatrick, who is competing for the top backup job in Cincinnati this season, has not looked sharp during minicamp, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: The other competitors for the number two spot are Jordan Palmer and Jeff Rowe, meaning the Bengals' aerial attack will crash and burn if anything happens to Carson Palmer this season.
Rogers has workout planned with MINMonday 6/16, 8:56 AM CT
The high school coach of Charles Rogers claims the receiver has a workout scheduled with the Minnesota Vikings, according to MLive.com. His former coach, Don Durrett, said, "He's had a couple workouts with some teams and has a workout with the Minnesota Vikings. He's getting caught up with playing in the NFL again."

Our View: Rogers made a verbal agreement to play with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL last month, but he never actually signed a contract and didn't attend the training camp that started on May 29. He will be hard-pressed to claim a solid role with an NFL club, and his fantasy stock remains in the cellar.
Rivers making an impact in practice Monday 6/16, 8:30 AM CT
Rookie linebacker Keith Rivers (USC) has been a disruptive force in the backfield so far in practice, and is also displaying great range in pass coverage, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Our View: Rivers is an intense player, and if he holds on to start as a rookie, he would make a solid impact as an IDP.
Rudi looking good Monday 6/16, 8:27 AM CT
Rudi Johnson is reportedly looking good in practice this week, according to the Dayton Daily News. He is running smooth with solid speed. He is also displaying quick feet, and could be headed for a strong bounce back campaign.

Our View: Johnson has been slipping outside the top 25 running backs selected in mock drafts so far, and could prove to be a steal if he can just stay healthy for a full-16 game slate.
Simpson continues to struggle Monday 6/16, 8:21 AM CT
Rookie receiver Jerome Simpson (Coastal Carolina) continues to struggle in practice with the Bengals, according to the Dayton Daily News. Simpson is not suited to replace Chris Henry for the number three role at receiver, and fellow rookie Andre Caldwell is ahead of him for the job.

Our View: Simpson has solid hands and plays physical, but lacks good speed and needs work on his route running and blocking. He will likely see most of his action on special teams as a rookie.
Texans could add Colvin today Monday 6/16, 7:59 AM CT
Rosevelt Colvin is going to sign with the Texans today, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View: The Texans want to use Colvin as a complement to Mario Williams as an outside pass-rusher. Williams broke out with 14 sacks in 2007. Colvin registered four sacks, three forced fumbles, and one interception in 2007 with the Patriots, and this could prove to be a strong signing for the Texans.
Hagan performing well Monday 6/16, 7:07 AM CT
Derek Hagan is performing well so far in the off-season with Miami, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Hagan has personally set high expecations for himself, and coach Tony Sparano said, "I heard all the stories and all that, and I know the kid was out here on his own time spending a lot of time catching balls from the jugs machine, catching balls with the quarterbacks and doing all those things. I really like where this guy is right now and I think he's playing with a little bit of confidence, and is playing fast."

Our View: Hagan is entering his third pro season, which is generally when receivers break out and take the next step. He is holding on to the ball and running more precise routes, and believes he is ready to take that next step. He could rank as a solid sleeper for 2008.
