Niners sign back to extensionSunday 6/22, 5:53 PM CT
Michael Robinson signed an extension with the Niners to remain with the club through the 2012 season, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Terms of the signing bonus were not announced though he will receive salaries of $650,000, $750,00 and $850,000.

Our View: Robinson would appear to be nothing more than the clubs third option in the running game with the off-season signing of DeShaun Foster, but he does provide nice depth.
Niners sign TE to extensionSunday 6/22, 5:45 PM CT
Delanie Walker was given a a contract extension by the 49ers worth $6 million for the next three years, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. $1.8 million of that was in the form of a signing bonus.

Our View: Walker had only 21 receptions that season and is clearly the teams second option at tight end behind Vernon Davis, so it sure seems like an awful lot of dough to throw at a backup unless the Niners plan to have Walker more heavily involved this season.
No more Pacman, pleaseSunday 6/22, 2:52 PM CT
In the continued saga that is the world's most dangerous NFL celebrity, Pacman Jones , the suspended Dallas Cowboys cornerback, no longer wants to be referred to as "Pacman," according to the Associated Press.

Our View: After speaking to about 60 kids at a basketball camp hosted by Dallas Mavericks forward Brandon Bass on Saturday, Jones expressed his desire to drop his nickname. Jones prefers to be called by his paternal name, Adam, noting the image associated with Pacman is something he wants to leave behind.
The Freak picked up for DUISunday 6/22, 11:45 AM CT
Tennessee defensive end Jevon Kearse has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence, according to TitansRadio.com.

Our View: The report indicates Metro Nashville police arrested Kearse after pulling him over for speeding and swerving. Upon arrival at the car, Kearse had red eyes, slurred his speech, and smelled of alcohol. He refused to submit a breath test.
Video tells different story for WalkerSunday 6/22, 9:19 AM CT
We recently reported receiver Javon Walker was beaten and robbed in Las Vegas, and we followed with a ProFootballTalk.com review of an interview Walker gave submitting his own account of what happened (stating his hotel room was ambushed, he was beaten unconscience, and we dragged to the street). Now PFT reports the authorities in Vegas have reviewed a plethora of surveillance tapes and find no evidence supporting Walker's story.

Our View: According to Norm Clarke of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, police have revealed they possess video of Walker getting into a car under his own power, not being dragged or coerced by force. Walker was found at 7:30 a.m. local time, unconscious in a pool of blood. He had left the Body English night club at 3:00 a.m. after a night of spraying champagne.
Giants CB arrestedSunday 6/22, 9:12 AM CT
Giants cornerback Geoffrey Pope has been arrested and is facing a felony charge of battery after hitting a man over the head with ah bottle of Champagne, according to SBNation.com.

Our View: Pope was on the Giants practice team last season but injuries forced him action in the team's run to the Super Bowl. With his lack of status and this pending legal battle (not to mention running back Ahmad Bradshaw's recent arrest, giving the team desire to avoid the dreaded tag as a collection of convicts), it may be that we see the team make a move, carrying six more players than they are allowed to bring to training camp. Pope seems to have put his vote forth to take one of those spots.
Hightower could get vote over ArringtonSunday 6/22, 9:06 AM CT
The Cardinals are letting folks know that rookie Tim Hightower is giving more than enough in offseason workouts to support suggestions that he could supplant J.J. Arrington on the depth chart in Week 1, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Hightower was the team's first rookie to sign and team sources have let PFW know they are not particularly happy with Arrington on or off the field (arrested for disorderly conduct earlier this week). If Hightower can progress and hit training camp with a purpose, the Cards seem willing to make that change and send Arrington into a limited role.
Crowell working to get Bills on trackSunday 6/22, 9:02 AM CT
The Bills are going out of their way to file public praise for linebacker Angelo Crowell , according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: The veteran has been a strong contributor at times but his struggles for consistency have left the team wondering if he is giving maximum effort. This season the team reports Crowell is a regular at optional workouts, is putting new-found focus on technique, and is looking to insure the Buffalo linebacking corps (welcoming back injured Paul Posluszny and top veteran Kawika Mitchell) is one of the best in the business. If he comes through as hoped, this Bills defense could prove to be one of the more undervalued in the league.
Chiefs looking at two TE setsSunday 6/22, 8:53 AM CT
Reports out of Kansas City indicate the Chiefs are giving a noteworthy focus to two-tight end sets in offensive workouts, according to Pro Football Weekly. PFW reports both Tony Gonzalez and rookie Brad Cottam are spending time in snaps with the team's starting unit, and both are getting plenty of targets.

Our View: This is of interest on two fronts for fantasy owners. First, one has to wonder just how many looks Cottam will get and how that will affect the value of Gonzalez, the long-standing target of choice in this offense. However, more importantly may be the team's need to provide better support for the run. Getting two blocking tight ends on the field could help the team mask their shortcomings at fullback, and with Larry Johnson struggling through abuse and durability concerns, the Chiefs need to do what they can to support his cause in staying on the field. Putting two tight ends on the field can't hurt.
Hester working as receiverSunday 6/22, 8:48 AM CT
The Chargers added LSU fullback/running back Jacob Hester in the mid-rounds of his this year's NFL Draft, but it now appears the Bolts see bigger and better things for the rookie rusher, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: We have reported Hester is getting reps playing both fullback and running back in team practices, indicating the team will be utilizing him for more than his blocking skills. Now PFW reports the team is also giving him a look as a slot receiver, believing Hester has the hands to make receptions in traffic and the bulk to gain yards after the catch. It sounds like coach Norv Turner may be looking to turn Hester into a wild-card option that could prove beneficial for the team and fantasy owners. Keep an eye on this situation when training camp gets started. If the team continues to get Hester involved as a receiver, tight end Antonio Gates may be finding competition for short-range catches.
Cards want Warner; Bolden in limboSunday 6/22, 8:42 AM CT
Reports out of Arizona indicate the Cardinals have switched gears and are now putting full focus on getting veteran quarterback Kurt Warner signed to a new deal, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: The team has been working with linebacker Karlos Dansby with hopes of getting their franchise player signed and sealed, and we have been filling pages of reports on the team's efforts to get receiver Anquan Boldin happy. However, now the team wants to insure Warner is locked into deal that will insure he's on the roster. This is a bit worrisome on several fronts. For starters, now we must wonder just how happy the team is with young arm Matt Leinart, obviously concerned with the need to keep a secondary option. Reports also indicate that Boldin is now stating he is unsure if he will have a future in Arizona, and choosing to reflect on an aging secondary passer could put him off. We will update as the saga in Arizona continues to unfold.
McQuarters to safety?Sunday 6/22, 8:36 AM CT
The Giants may be looking to move veteran cornerback R.W. McQuarters to safety, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: McQuarters is one of many options battling for depth chart position at cornerback, and with the plethora of riches at the corners and a need for options at safety, PFW believes the Giants may be looking at McQuarters as the most experienced and capable mind to make such a swith work.
Minnesota rookie WR working towards starting job Sunday 6/22, 8:34 AM CT
The Vikings are starting to view rookie receiver Aundrae Allison as a likely running mate for deep-threat Bernard Berrian, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: PFW reports the team believes Allison has the vertical speed and reliable hands needed to give the team two viable threats for defenses to fear down the field. We will see how this plays out in training camp, for we worry more about the Vikings ability to get the ball down that field.
Hester to work full-time on offenseSunday 6/22, 8:30 AM CT
Last season superstar return man Devin Hester played an average of 10 to 12 plays on offense per game as a receiver, and this season the Bears intend to triple that workload, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: We have read several reports out of Chicago indicating the team believes Hester, though lacking in size, has the hands and speed to work as the team's top option at receiver, and now they appear dedicated to providing that opportunity in '08. A source with the team has told PFW the Bears are looking to increase his offensive snaps at least threefold, and that could yield results fantasy owners appreciate.
Titans want Young going deepSunday 6/22, 8:24 AM CT
The Titans are ready to bolster the passing game in 2008 and have quarterback Vince Young working towards supporting that cause, according to the Tennessean.

Our View: With the addition of new offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger, the Titans are focusing specific efforts to improve Young's accuracy down the field, hoping to improve his 8-for-47 mark on passes thrown over 20 yards or more, a marked regression from his performance as a rookie. We all joke about Young's preference for the run, but these reports indicate Young is putting in the work needed to motivate the Titans towards providing more of these opportunities this season, but only time will tell if Young can fit the system or if he continues to struggle in this facet of his game.
Flacco putting in work to progress quicklySunday 6/22, 8:11 AM CT
Updates from beat reporters spending time with the Ravens indicate the early work of quarterback Joe Flacco may be working the rookie towards an early start in the NFL, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The reports note Flacco is arriving at Ravens headquarters well ahead of expectation (typically arriving at 5:45am), he is the first in the weight room, and spending copious amounts of time with coaches to enhance his progression through the learning of the playbook. If the Ravens are as impressed with his arm on the field when training camp starts, that plus his obvious work ethic could give Flacco the nod.
