NEWSBREAKERS NFL
Graham agrees to four-year extensionSunday 6/29, 7:58 PM CT
The Buccaneers and running back Earnest Graham have reached an agreement on a four-year, $11 million contract extension, NFL.com reports.

Our View: Graham surprisingly pounded out 1,040 total yards and seven touchdowns over his 10 starts in 2007, and he'll enter 2008 as the top dog. Warrick Dunn may eat into the load a bit and Cadillac Williams could return late in the year, but Graham still looks like a low-end No. 2 or high-end No. 3 fantasy back.
Nobody wants HornSunday 6/29, 7:52 PM CT
Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that there has been no interest in wide receiver Joe Horn from the Cowboys or any other team. Horn asked to be traded, and his agent is free to pursue a deal.

Our View: It's hard to believe we're so far removed from Horn's string of excellent campaigns in New Orleans. Maybe he can hook up with Aaron Brooks in... uh... what ever happened to Aaron Brooks?
Martin arrested for marijuana possessionSunday 6/29, 7:48 PM CT
Ravens cornerback Derrick Martin was caught with three bags of marijuana at the Cleveland airport on Saturday night, WKYC.com reports.

Our View: Martin has been with the Ravens since being a third-round pick in 2006, but this news casts serious doubt on him seeing a third campaign with the club.
Graham nearing three-year dealSunday 6/29, 7:06 PM CT
The Buccaneers and running back Earnest Graham are close to finalizing a three-year, $10.5 million contract extension, ProFootballTalk.com reports.

Our View: Graham expects to enter 2008 as the starter, even though the club signed Warrick Dunn. We have some concerns about Graham maintaining the surprising pace he displayed last year, but he looks to be, at worst, a decent No. 3 running back option.
Lorello releasedSunday 6/29, 1:11 PM CT
Mike Lorello has been released by the Steelers, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: The former safety prospect out of West Virginia spent part of the last two seasons on the Steelers' practice squad. He isn't likely to catch on with another club this season.
Kreider invited to Rams' camp Sunday 6/29, 1:04 PM CT
Dan Kreider, who is an unrestricted free agent with the Steelers, has been invited to training camp by the Rams, according to LancasterOnline.com.

Our View: Kreider is trying to bounce back from a torn ACL that he sustained last season. Kreider offers little while carrying the ball, but he is a strong and accomplished blocker and would compete with Brian Leonard for the lead role at fullback if he accepts the Rams' invitation, and if his knee checks out fine.
Cowboys best, according to NewmanSunday 6/29, 12:57 PM CT
Terence Newman has proclaimed, "On paper, we're the greatest team in the league," according to the Dallas Morning News. Newman also admitted that the Cowboys were overconfident in their playoff loss to the eventual champion Giants last season.

Our View: There are high expectations set in Dallas this season, and they are a popular choice to make it to Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa.
Steelers praise Russell Sunday 6/29, 12:14 PM CT
The Steelers have praised Gary Russell and believe he can develop into a "top notch" running back, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View: Russell has a shot to make the team as a fourth running back behind Willie Parker, rookie Rashard Mendenhall, and Mewelde Moore. But he won't hold any fantasy value while fighting for scraps.
Williams likely to begin on PUP listSunday 6/29, 11:13 AM CT
Cadillac Williams is likely be begin the regular season on the PUP list, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: He has made great progress in his rehab from a torn patellar tendon, but there was question that he may never play again, and the team really does not need him this season, with a well-stocked backfield led by Earnest Graham and Warrick Dunn. He is not worth stashing away this season, and will likely see little action if and when he returns.
Williams longshot to make Titans? Sunday 6/29, 10:55 AM CT
Mike Williams has lost weight and shown improvement in the off-season, but is still considered a longshot to make the Titans final roster this season, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Justin Gage and Justin McCareins are locks to make the roster (as projected starters), and Biren Ealy is safe as he is impressing the club with a strong showing in practice. Williams would be competing with Brandon Jones, Roydell Williams, Chris Davis, Paul Williams, and rookie Lavelle Hawkins for the remaining spots on the depth chart.
Peterson could leave Jags in 2009? Sunday 6/29, 9:40 AM CT
John Clayton of ESPN commented that Mike Peterson could be headed for his final campaign in Jacksonville.

Our View: His contract will run out at the end of the season, and his age (32) and injury history (missed 17 games over last two seasons) could mean 2008 will be his last tour of duty with the Jaguars.
Brayton top candidate to start at DE Sunday 6/29, 8:32 AM CT
Tyler Brayton is the leading candidate to start at right defensive end opposite stud Julius Peppers this season, according to Pro Football Weekly. He is ahead of Stanley McClover and Charles Johnson.

Our View: Brayton holds an edge in experience and versatility, as he can move inside to provide a pass rush up the middle on third down. There is still a long way to go before now and the regular season opener against the Chargers, and McClover and Johnson could still win the starting spot over Brayton, who was a bust with the Raiders.
Tuck held in high regard by Giants Sunday 6/29, 8:24 AM CT
The Giants hold Justin Tuck in high regard and believe he can emerge as a star with season at defensive end following the retirement of Michael Strahan, according to Pro Football Weekly. There were also some in the organization that believe he would have beaten out Strahan for the starting spot opposite Osi Umeyiora if he decided not to retire.

Our View: Tuck is in great condition, and built up his stamina to effectively handle a bigger role this season. He racked up 64 tackles (47 solo) and 10 sacks in 2007, and seems primed for a breakout campaign.
