Young expected to produce Monday 6/30, 8:15 PM CT
Third-year quarterback Vince Young is on the hot seat this year, and will be learning a new offense for the third time in four seasons. The offensive rookie of the year in 2006 struggled in his second season throwing nine touchdown passes and 17 interceptions. Tennessee has a new offensive coordinator and new additions on both sides of the ball so expecting a repeat of a surprising 2007 campaign is optimistic at best.

Our View: How bad was the Titans offense last season? They scored one touchdown or less in nine of 16 games.
Pats' D-back Andrews arrestedMonday 6/30, 6:34 PM CT
Willie Andrews was arrested this morning for allegedly holding a high-powered handgun to his girlfriend’s head during an argument, this according to the Boston Herald. This is his second run-in with police this off-season. The report notes that Mansfield police was told by Andrew's girl friend that the two were arguing, allegedly over him cheating on her, when he pulled out a Glock .45-caliber handgun and held it to her temple.

Our View: Andrews was taken into custody by the police at his apartment at about 4:30 a.m. today. The team had no immediate comment.
Jones considering signing with TampaMonday 6/30, 3:55 PM CT
Kevin Jones is considering signing with the Buccaneers, according to NFL.com. He has also garnered interest from the Patriots and Titans but he likes the situation in Tampa and sees a chance to excel there.

Our View: It is unknown if the Buccaneers have offered him a deal. If healthy, Jones would fit the Buccaneers' system well, but he would have to battle Earnest Graham (who just inked a new deal) and Warrick Dunn for playing time.
Smith focused on bouncing back Monday 6/30, 3:09 PM CT
L.J. Smith is focused on getting his career back on track following an injury spoiled 2007 campaign that limited him to 22 receptions for 236 yards, according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com. Smith said, "I have a new hunger for the sport of football. You definitely don't have a long time to make an impact in this game and I'm thankful that I'm back here. Now it's time to get back to work and show improvement. I'm getting myself mentally and physically prepared for a grueling camp like it is every year."

Our View: Smith is going to enter training camp fully healthy, and has a good shot to re-establish himself as a solid starting fantasy tight end.
Whitner to play both safety spots Monday 6/30, 2:49 PM CT
Donte Whitner is expected to rotate between both safeties spots this season, according to BuffaloBills.com
Our View: Whitner may not challenge 100 tackles while he cycles between strong and free safety, but he could generate a solid interception total and make more big plays for the Bills defense overall.
Packers expected to rush LB's moreMonday 6/30, 2:41 PM CT
The Packers are expected to send their linebackers on more blitzes this season, according to ESPN.com. Nick Barnett said, "We've got some things in our pocket. I don't want to give too much away on the packages we've been working on, but I'm really excited." AJ Hawk added, "Any linebacker will tell you he wants to blitz and he wants to make big plays. We've always been aggressive, just in different ways. With all the guys we have on our defense, it's going to be fun to see what the coaches come up with."

Our View: The Packers did not register a single sack in four of their final five games of last season, and are working on bringing more heat from the linebacking spots. Barnett reached 3.5 sacks in 2007, and could challenge a half dozen if they stick to the plan this season.
Kacyvenski wants another chance Monday 6/30, 2:18 PM CT
Free agent linebacker Isaiah Kacyvenski wants another chance to play in the NFL, according to the Press & Sun-Bulletin. He said, "I'm always thinking about football, it's something I truly love without batting an eye. I'm learning the value of patience recovering from this injury, it's a challenge doing that, but I think it will make me stronger."

Our View: He once excelled on special teams with the Seahawks, but tore cartilage in his left knee during Raiders camp last season. He will consider retiring if he doesn't find work with another team by Week 4 of the upcoming season.
Gruden praises Sapp Monday 6/30, 2:06 PM CT
Jon Gruden praised Warren Sapp, according to the Tampa Tribune. Gruden commented, "If Warren Sapp doesn't go into the Hall of Fame on the first ballot, you'd better check the IQ of the voters. No disrespect to anyone, but he's the favorite guy I've ever coached."

Our View: The 35-year-old Sapp announced his retirement in January. He ended his career with 96.5 sacks, with a high of 16.5 coming with the Buccaneers in 2000.
Marshall details emergeMonday 6/30, 1:33 PM CT
Brandon Marshall was arrested in March for assaulting his girlfriend, but there have been past incidents, according to the Denver Post. The newspaper says they have received reports that Marshall previously "punched his girlfriend, cut her leg with a knife and threw a rock at a car in which she was a passenger."

Our View: These are not new incidents, as the paper claims there has been eight incidents and 12 police reports written concerning domestic disputes since June of 2006. With Marshall's history now coming to the forefront, it would not be surprising if Roger Goodell decided to implement some form of discipline.
Keith pleads guiltyMonday 6/30, 1:15 PM CT
Offensive lineman Brandon Keith, the Cardinals seventh-round pick, has plead guilty to misdemeanor rioting and interference with officials, reports the Arizona Republic.

Our View: Keith will get one year of probation on the charges, which occurred after he and two teammates got into a fight.
Garcia hints at holdoutMonday 6/30, 12:54 PM CT
Jeff Garcia wants a new contract, and should he not receive one, he has hinted that he might be a holdout, reports Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: The Bucs clearly need Garcia to be the starting QB, despite the plethora of other players at that position on the roster. This doesn't sound like a serious situation quite yet, but there is still a few weeks to go before training camp starts.
Favre itching to play?Monday 6/30, 12:44 PM CT
Brett Favre may want to play in the upcoming season, or so his agent, Bus Cook, has been saying privately, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View: Here we go again. Until Favre actually comes out and signs a contract, or publicly states he wants to come back, this is much ado about nothing.
Williamson impressing so farMonday 6/30, 12:38 PM CT
Troy Williamson has impressed the coaching staff on the practice field in his initial campaign with the Jaguars, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: The report also says what we already know: that Williamson must prove he can catch the ball in game situations before his reputation improves. He might be worth taking a flyer on late in a fantasy draft, but don't get your hopes up too high.
McCarthy impressed with BrohmMonday 6/30, 12:33 PM CT
Brian Brohm struggled initially, but it seems that the rookie quarterback has progressed to the point that Packers head coach Mike McCarthy is exceptionally pleased with his play, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Brohm went from potential first overall pick after his junior season to second round selection despite putting up similar numbers at Louisville his senior year. Still, Aaron Rodgers' job likely isn't in jeopardy.
Austin could see more timeMonday 6/30, 12:28 PM CT
Miles Austin could see increased playing time, as he has impressed the Cowboys brass during offseason workouts, reports Pro Football Weekly.

Our View: Austin has all of five catches in his career, but with the Terry Glenn situation still unresolved, the wide receiver position is still up in the air in Dallas. The situation bears keeping an eye on through training camp.
Boston out 10-12 weeks Monday 6/30, 9:38 AM CT
David Boston, who recently signed a deal with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, is going to be out 10-12 weeks after undergoing surgery to repair a stress fracture on his foot, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: So much for Boston taking advantage of a fresh start in Canada.
Graves in contact with Boldin's agent Monday 6/30, 9:29 AM CT
Cardinals' GM Rod Graves is in contact with Anquan Boldin's agent (Drew Rosenhaus) regarding a new deal, according to the Arizona Republic. Graves would like to get a deal done, but acknowledged that a more realistic "window" is some time this fall. Graves wants to make sure the Cardinals have the cap space to deal with possible injuries in training camp and the start of the season.

Our View: Cardinals' officials remain confident that Boldin will report to camp on time and not pay the penalty in fines of $14,000 a day. Boldin is working under a contract that pays him an average of about $4 million a year.
Johnson heads to CFL Monday 6/30, 9:05 AM CT
Tight end Teyo Johnson, who was recently released by the Bills, has inked a deal with the Calgary Stampeders of the CFL, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: Johnson was notably born in White Rock, B.C., and once played for the Canadian junior Olympic basketball team. He had little chance to hold a favorable role in the NFL this season, and joining the CFL was a good move for him.
Sims dealt with nagging shoulder Monday 6/30, 8:12 AM CT
The shoulder that Ernie Sims had operated on in the off-season has bothered him over his last two seasons, according to MLive. The Lions defense has had trouble staying healthy, which forced Sims to stay on the field for almost every play, which led to the shoulder problem.

Our View: Sims is a hard-hitter, but his intensity was compromised by the ailment. He is entering his third season in the Tampa-2 defense, which is where a linebacker generally gets comfortable in the system. Sims racked up 134 tackles (97 solo) in 2007, but is still yet to reach his peak. He could rank as a top-8 fantasy linebacker in 2008, assuming his shoulder holds up.
K-Rob on Chiefs' radar? Monday 6/30, 7:37 AM CT
The Chiefs are reportedly interested in Koren Robinson, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: Robinson would provide the Chiefs with a talented receiver that they covet, and would also come at a good price. The only issue is that the team recently stated that they don't want to take any chances on players with character questions. It remains to be seen if the Chiefs will give in and take a gamble on him.
