Turco saves 32 but fall to DetroitSaturday 5/10, 9:38 PM CT
Give Marty Turco credit. He faced nearly twice as many shots on goal as his Detroit counterpoint, and he allowed just two to get by. Unfortunately, that's all Detroit needed to get the win, 2-1, and take a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference final.

Our View: Turco has been strong in the playoffs, but his team is falling apart on defense and the Detroit Red Wings just seem too good to be handled.
Zetterberg nets goal in 2-1 win for DetroitSaturday 5/10, 9:34 PM CT
It took him seven shots on goal to get the job done, but Detroit winger Henrik Zetterberg scored one of two goals to give the Red Wings a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars, putting Detroit in the driver's seat with a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference finals.

Our View: Zetterberg has tallied six goals and seven assists throughout the playoffs, taking the lead for the Red Wings just as he did during the regular season (92 point).
Franzen out indefinatelySaturday 5/10, 8:05 PM CT
Leading playoff goal scorer Johan Franzen is reportedly out of the Red Wings' lineup "indefinately," according to SLAM Sports.

Our View: Franzen sat out Game 2 of the Western Conference final tonight with concussion-like symptoms. An official press release from the Detroit Red Wings states, "Franzen is scheduled to remain in Detroit to undergo testing on Monday." Franzen has reportedly been complaining of headaches since the 2nd-round series against Colorado. Now the team is taking precautions to insure he is ok. We will update as news becomes available.
Wheeler turns proSaturday 5/10, 7:55 PM CT
The Phoenix Coyotes' top prospect Blake Wheeler , the 1st-round pick of 2004 for Phoenix (5th overall), las left the University of Minnesota and joined the team to officially join the professional ranks, according to the East Valley Tribune.

Our View: Wheeler announced his decision on Friday, giving the Coyotes 30 days to get him signed to a rookie contract. If they fail to reach an agreement, Wheeler becomes a free agent. Wheeler's agent, Matt Keator, spoke with the Tribune and says the team has already engaged them in talks, and they seem confident a deal will be done in short order. Wheeler, a massive 6-foot-4, 215-pound forward, led the Golden Gophers with 15 goals and 35 total points last season (44 games). He leaves the college ranks with a career total of 42 goals and 96 points.
Talbot could return for Game 2Saturday 5/10, 5:02 PM CT
Center Maxime Talbot may be laced up and ready to play for his Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Talbot suffered a broken foot while blocking a slapshot during the Pens' last playoff series against the New York Rangers. He practiced with the team today and coach Michel Therrien told reporters he will be evaluated once more tomorrow morning.
Lemaire with return for eighth season Saturday 5/10, 11:24 AM CT
Coach Jacques Lemaire says he’ll return for an eighth season with the Wild, according to the AP.

Our View: Lemaire has a career record of 500-381-168 over 14 years of coaching service, including 60-52 in the playoffs. But with the Wild, he’s gone a disappointing 11-18 in the playoffs.
Franzen has 27 goals in 27 games Saturday 5/10, 10:18 AM CT
Johan Franzen has scored 27 goals in 27 games since March 2, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View: Franzen really got hot down the stretch, and 12 of those goals came in the playoffs. He has six multi-goal games over the 27-game span.
McCarty is a healthy scratch for Sat. Saturday 5/10, 10:13 AM CT
Darren McCarty will be a healthy scratch for Saturday, according to the Detroit Free Press. McCarty will be replaced by Kirk Maltby again, but McCarty said, "I'll just make sure that I keep working hard and do everything I need to do to be ready in case I'm called upon again. If not, I'll be there to support the guys the best I can."

Our View: McCarty only has one point (a goal) through the playoffs, and the team sees Maltby as a better contributor as he is good as a penalty killer.
Sykora collects fifth playoff goal Saturday 5/10, 7:42 AM CT
Petr Sykora contributed a goal in Friday's 4-2 win over the Flyers in Game 1. That was his fifth goal of the playoffs.

Sidney Crosby scored a goal in Friday's 4-2 win against the Flyers in Game 1. He went five straight games without a goal, and ended the slump at exactly the right time.

Our View: Crosby has three goals and 12 assists through the playoffs, and helped guide Pittsburgh to a 1-0 lead in the series against Philadelphia.
Umberger dishes two helpers Saturday 5/10, 7:07 AM CT
R.J. Umberger dished out a pair of helpers in Friday's 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh in Game 1.

Our View: He has nine goals and four assists through the playoffs, and is off to a solid start against the Penguins, but Philadelphia still trails 1-0 in the series.
Richards registers two goals in loss Saturday 5/10, 7:04 AM CT
Mike Richards registered a pair of goals in Friday's 4-2 loss in Game 1 to the Penguins. He has scored three goals over his last two outings.

Our View: Richards now has six goals through the playoffs, with seven assists, and he must remain hot if Philadelphia is going to knock out the Penguins.
