Roberts won't play in Game 1Friday 5/23, 6:36 PM CT
Gary Roberts feels like he's recovered from his bout with pneumonia, but the veteran won't play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, according to TSN.ca. "I've been told I'm not playing tomorrow night," said Roberts. "But it's not the time for me to bitch and complain. I've enjoyed being around this group of guys. I've had a trying year, health wise, not the year I wanted to have. But I'm excited to be here and be part of this thing. Hopefully at some point I'll get that chance."

Our View: Coach Michel Therrien probably just doesn't want to mess with his red-hot rotation at all right now, but we should see Roberts in the lineup eventually.
Franzen won't play in Game 1Friday 5/23, 3:11 PM CT
Johan Franzen practiced with teammates on Friday, but he has not been cleared to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals on Saturday, the AP reports. He has been out since Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals due to a concussion. "I’m out of shape, but otherwise I felt good," Franzen notes. "We’ll do some testing (Saturday). It wasn’t clear to me exactly what I have to do. It’s day to day, checkups every day."

Our View: Franzen remains a game-by-game decision, and the Red Wings could end up missing his scoring touch against the Penguins.
Gagne recovering wellFriday 5/23, 12:07 PM CT
Simon Gagne passed baseline and impact tests on Thursday "with flying colors," general manager Paul Holmgren informs the Philadelphia Daily News. The veteran battled concussion symptoms all season and appeared in only 25 games. His next hurdle will be to get in shape, as Holmgren says Gagne is currently a "little chubby."

Our View: Gagne's value will be depressed heading into 2008-09, for obvious reasons. The two-time All-Star could end up being a great value pick if he stays healthy, though.
Filuppa restsFriday 5/23, 12:01 PM CT
Valtteri Filppula didn't practice on Thursday but is expected to play on Saturday, the Detroit News reports.

Our View: The center has been resting throughout the playoffs due to knee and thigh soreness. We fully expect him to play.
