Fleury not sharp in Game 1 lossSaturday 5/24, 11:06 PM CT
Marc-Andre Fleury couldn't withstand the barrage of Red Wings shots in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals Saturday, as he allowed four goals on 36 shots in a 4-0 loss.

Our View: Fleury has been nails during this year's playoffs, but he's never had a bigger spotlight on him than he has now. He'll have to play better if they upstart Penguins want to have a chance at knocking off the veteran Detroit squad.
Samuelsson nets two in Game 1 winSaturday 5/24, 11:04 PM CT
Mikael Samuelsson lit the lamp twice in the Red Wings' 4-0 win in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals Saturday. The forward had two goals in one other game during this year's playoffs (Game 4 versus the Avalanche), but those are his only four tallies.

Our View: Samuelsson was certainly an unlikely source of offensive production, as he netted just 11 goals during the regular season, but with the Penguins focusing their defensive efforts on more higher profile Wings players, guys like Samuelsson have had more room to maneuver.
Osgood blanks the PensSaturday 5/24, 10:58 PM CT
Chris Osgood was his usual steady self Saturday, stopping all 19 Pittsburgh shots in Detroit's 4-0 win in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Our View: Osgood doesn't have to be brilliant behind the Red Wings' D, but he his .935 save percentage this playoffs is astounding nonetheless.
Chelios out for Game 1 Saturday 5/24, 9:47 AM CT
Chris Chelios, who sat out Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals with and injured knee, likely won't be on the ice for Game 1 of the Finals though he says he is ready to go, according to the Detroit News. "Whether it's superstition or not, we're not changing a winning lineup," Chelios said.

Our View: Chelios will certainly be back in there at some point, and we wouldn't at all be surprised if it was for Game 2 as there is no denying that this guy is the ultimate warrior who thirsts for the Cup.
Cleary attempting to be the firstSaturday 5/24, 9:42 AM CT
Dan Cleary is one of three NHL players who call Newfoundland their homeland (Michael Ryder and Ryan Clowe), and as a result Clearly will attempt to become the first Newfoundler to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: Cleary, who has been dealing with wearing a chin guard since breaking his jaw in February, will be allowed to play in the Finals without the extra protection and he believes that will help him on the offensive side of the puck where he has been limited because he has been unable to see the puck in his feet.
Sykora looking for more scoringSaturday 5/24, 9:35 AM CT
Petr Sykora continues to be the silent assassin for the Penguins, intent on doing his thing with little fanfare, according to Slam Sports. Unfortunately, he hasn't done much to help his own squad either of late as he has also been quiet on the scoring front.

Our View: Sykora scored 28 goals during the regular season doing his best work on a line with Evgeni Malkin, and in 14 games in these playoffs he has scored five times with three assists. He will look to be more involved against the Wings after scoring only once in his last 12 games, and he simply must find the back of the net if the Pens are to defeat the Wings.
Franzen will not play in Game 1Saturday 5/24, 9:28 AM CT
Johan Franzen is still dealing with the effects of his head injury, and though he has returned to practice, he will not play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals, according to TSN.

Our View: The Mule, as he is affectionately known, will be sorely missed given his goal scoring exploits in these playoffs. The Wings hope his return to game action will occur within a couple of days.
