Malkin running on emptyMonday 5/26, 10:40 PM CT
Evgeni Malkin has fallen off the Stanley Cup map since taking a hard hit from Philadelphia's Mike Richards in the opener of the East finals.

Our View: The MVP finalist has one goal and one assist in the six games since and appeared to run out of gas in the third period of tonight's game.
Filppula scores during 4-on-4Monday 5/26, 10:37 PM CT
Valtteri Filppula, how has been limited in practices during the Stanley Cup finals with some leg soreness, scored his fourth playoff goal 8:48 into the third with the teams skating 4-on-4.

Our View: The Red Wings received all of their scoring support in the 3-0 Game 2 win over the Pens from their secondary scorers. Game 3 is Wednesday night in Pittsburgh, and the Penguins will have to win one of the next two to force a trip back to Motown.
Stuarts scores first-period goalMonday 5/26, 10:35 PM CT
In what was a victorious Memorial Day night in Detroit, and with first-period goal from Brad Stuart , the Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 to take a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Our View: The Pistons beat the Celtics by 19 points in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals and the Red Wings behind the netminding of Chris Osgood (22 blocks) created plenty of reason to celebrate in the Motor City tonight.
Holmstrom scores in Wings winMonday 5/26, 10:31 PM CT
With a first-period goal from Tomas Holmstrom and another lockdown defensive effort, the Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 3-0 to take a 2-0 lead in the Stanley Cup Finals on Monday night.

Our View: The Red Wings registered 34 shots to the Pens 22 in the Game 2 win.
Osgood shuts out PensMonday 5/26, 10:29 PM CT
After a 19-save effort in a 4-0 series-opening win Saturday night, Chris Osgood blocked 22 shots and recorded his second straight shutout earning the Red Wings a 2-0 series lead in the Chase for Lord Stanley's Cup.

Our View: It was Osgood's third shutout of the playoffs and the 13th in his career.
Roberts to return to the lineupMonday 5/26, 6:21 PM CT
After missing five games with pneumonia, Gary Roberts found himself a healthy scratch in Game 1. The reason for this was the Pens didn't want to be without their enforcer (Georges Laraque), or mess with what had been a winning combination for them against the Flyers.

Our View: While Roberts ice time is likely to fall in the 10-to 11-minute range, expect the veteran to supply hard hits and gritty hustle in a must win for Pittsburgh.
Laraque to be healthy scratchMonday 5/26, 6:16 PM CT
As the Penguins search out adjustments to the lineup in reaction to being shutout and held to just 19 shots in Game 1, the Pens are expected to relegate enforcer Georges Laraque to the bench as a healthy scratch in Game 2 on Monday.

Our View: This puts Gary Roberts in the limelight as Pittsbrugh must be more offensive minded. Laraque, who brings size, toughness and hustle to the lineup, is one of the few members of this young team with extensive playoff experience. However, short of a couple of heated conversations with Detroit's Darren McCarty, it became clear that an enforcer would probably not be needed in a battle against the Wings.
Franzen cleared for Game 2Monday 5/26, 11:36 AM CT
Johan Franzen has been cleared to play in Game 2 on Monday night, the Detroit News reports. The center hasn't hit the ice since Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals due to concussion-like symptoms.

Our View: The Red Wings are already flying high after a 4-0 win in Game 1, and Franzen's return will only give them an additional boost. Despite the missed time, Franzen is still tied for the postseason lead with 12 goals.
Legwand still nursing bruised foot Monday 5/26, 8:06 AM CT
Dave Legwand is still nursing the bruised foot that he sustained at the end of the season, according to the Tennessean. He is still wearing a protective boot, and GM David Poile said, "He's going to be in the boot for a couple more weeks. He has to be careful not to be overly weight-bearing during that period, no running or skating until later in the summer."

Our View: Legwand is expected to be 100% healthy for training camp.
