Sid nets a pair in Game 3 winWednesday 5/28, 10:21 PM CT
Sidney Crosby scored a pair of goals to lead the Penguins to a 3-2 win over the Red Wings in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals.

Our View: Sid scored the first two goals of the game, which were also the first two the Pens have scored this series. This was a must-have game for Pittsburgh, and their best player came through for them when they desperately need him to.
Daley gets new deal in DallasWednesday 5/28, 8:36 PM CT
The Dallas Stars have signed defenseman Trevor Daley to a new three-year, $6.9 million contract, according to FoxSports.com.

Our View: Daley was one of five Stars to appear in all 82 games, finishing with career highs of five goals and 19 assists. He had one goal in 18 playoff games as Dallas advanced to the Western Conference finals for the first time since 2000. A second-round pick in 2002, the 24-year-old Daley has 56 points, including 13 goals, and 249 penalty minutes in 264 career games.
Sundin may explore market for new homeWednesday 5/28, 7:19 PM CT
Toronto's Mats Sundin , the team captain and long-time Maple Leaf great, has hinted that he might have interest in employment options outside of Toronto, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View: Sundin was accepting the league's Mark Messier Leadership Award and spoke with the press, stating he believes he has several options to explore, also stating that he had concerns about being able to reach an agreement with the Maple Leafs moving forward. Sundin, who earned $5.5 million last season, refused to waive his no-trade clause in February, blocking an apparent trade to Montreal. The Canadiens, it's believed, would have interest in him again should Sundin be available July 1. The Detroit Red Wings are another club rumored to have some interest.
Panthers sign top prospectWednesday 5/28, 7:11 PM CT
The Florida Panthers have signed their top prospect, center Michael Frolik , to an entry-level contract, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Frolik has spent the last two seasons with Oceanic Rimouski, the same league that produced Pittsburgh stud Sidney Crosby, of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 97 games with Rimouski, Frolik scored 55 goals with 83 assists. The Panthers needed to get this deal done before Saturday or Frolik, Florida first-round draft pick from 2006, would be eligible to re-enter the NHL Draft.
Sundin wins Messier awardWednesday 5/28, 2:42 PM CT
Mats Sundin is the winner of the 2007-08 Mark Messier Leadership Award, TSN.ca reports. "The truest test of leadership comes during periods of adversity," Messier explains. "When presented with difficult times during the season, Mats Sundin remained committed to his teammates, his community and to the game of hockey."

Our View: Congrats, Mats. This news has no bearing on his fantasy value, of course.
Howson denies Leclaire contract issuesWednesday 5/28, 12:21 PM CT
Blue Jackets GM Scott Howson has denied reports that contract talks with Pascal Leclaire aren't going well, the Columbus Dispatch notes. "We haven't really even begun negotiating," Howson explains. "I've given them...a few different offers to consider and get back to me. We're in the early stages." LeClaire is due to become a restricted free agent on July 1. "It's a false report," Howson adds. "There's absolutely no truth to it."

Our View: The Jackets would do well to sign Leclaire sooner rather than later. The goalie earned himself a lot of money after his breakout season.
Bradley happy with new dealWednesday 5/28, 12:16 PM CT
Updating a previous report, forward Matt Bradley will earn $3 million over his three-year contract extension, the Washington Post reports. "I wanted to stay here, obviously," Bradley says. "There's never security in hockey. You always have to play like it's your last game, but it's nice to know where you're going to be for a while."

Our View: Bradley doesn't do enough to register in fantasy hockey leagues, but the Caps say he's a good guy in the locker room. Neat.
Sydor to replace LetangWednesday 5/28, 11:50 AM CT
The Penguins are getting desperate. They will unleash defenseman Darryl Sydor on the Red Wings in Game 3, the Canadian Press reports. Sydor, 36, has yet to appear in the playoffs, but he will replace rookie Kristopher Letang. "Darryl had a great season for us, but we have a lot of depth on defense and our defense was also doing really well," coach Michel Therrien explains. "It’s a different story now."

Our View: It won't matter if the Pens can't figure out how to slip a few pucks by Chris Osgood.
Holik wins ruling vs. RangersWednesday 5/28, 11:21 AM CT
Bobby Holik is about to get a big paycheck. An arbitrator has ruled that the Rangers owe the forward $3.5 million over a contract dispute stemming from the lost 2004-05 season, TSN.ca reports. The Rangers argued that Holik needed to play to earn his signing bonus.

Our View: We're hoping Mr. Holik invites us to the celebration.
