Wesley retires Thursday 6/5, 1:53 PM CT
Glen Wesley has decided to retire following a 20-year career in the NHL, according to TSN.ca. He also announced that he would be working as the Hurricanes' new Director of Defensemen Development.

Our View: Wesley ranked sixth on the NHL's all-time list of games played by a defenseman, skating in 1,457 total games over 20 seasons with Boston, Hartford, Toronto and Carolina. He scored 128 goals and 409 assists, and got to hoist the Stanley Cup once in his career, with Carolina in 2006.
Reasoner will become free agent Thursday 6/5, 12:53 PM CT
Marty Reasoner will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, according to the Edmonton Journal. He racked up 11 goals and 14 assists over 82 games in 2007-08.

Our View: The Oilers would like him back next season, but the team may not have a roster spot for him, due to the high number of young players they need to work into the mix. Coach Craig MacTavish personally likes Reasoner, but the 31-year old vet may be playing for another club next season.
Meszaros rejected deal to RussiaThursday 6/5, 11:15 AM CT
Andrej Meszaros has rejected a lucrative offer to play in Russia next season, according to the Ottawa Sun. He has no interest in leaving the NHL, and can become a restricted free agent on July 1. But there has been constructive talks with Senators' GM Bryan Murray about a new contract, and it remains optimistic that he can remain in Ottawa.

Our View: The 21-year defenseman is said to be on the Flyers' radar, and Philadelphia GM Paul Holmgren has already approached Murray about dealing for Meszaros, however.
Kelly likely to become free agent Thursday 6/5, 9:30 AM CT
Chris Kelly is likely to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, according to the Ottawa Sun.

Our View: Kelly scored 11 goals and 19 assists over 75 games, but was taken down by a hairline fracture in his right leg and missed the playoffs. He could get more ice time with another team, and his fantasy stock could potentially rise next season.
Hossa will become free agentThursday 6/5, 9:23 AM CT
Marian Hossa will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View: Hossa is expected to demand a very lucrative contract, and isn't likely to get it from the Penguins. He fits in well, but the team will not have the cap room to keep him and their nucleus of young talent.
Malkin was sick Thursday 6/5, 7:57 AM CT
Evgeni Malkin revealed that he was sick during the playoffs, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Malkin was held scoreless in the first four games of the Stanley Cup Finals against Detroit, and said, "I was sick. But I don't think it was a major factor."

Our View: Malkin racked up 106 points over 82 games in the regular season, and had a great year for Pittsburgh, despite falling short in their bid to hoist the Stanley Cup.
Stuart will try to re-sign with Detroit Thursday 6/5, 7:08 AM CT
Brad Stuart can be an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but the Wings are said to be aggressive in trying to re-sign him, according to the Detroit News. He said, "I'll think about that re-signing in the next couple of weeks. It seems to be a good fit. But there's time to think about all that."

Our View: Stuart was dealt from Los Angeles to Detroit at the trade deadline, and the enforcer was integral during the Wings' magical run at the Stanley Cup.
Zetterberg awarded Conn Smythe Thursday 6/5, 7:03 AM CT
Henrik Zetterberg has been awarded the Conn Smythe award as the MVP of the playoffs, according to the AP. He scored six points against the Penguins in the Stanley Cup Finals, with two points coming in Game 6 last night.

Our View: Zetterberg finished the playoffs with 27 points matching him with Sidney Crosby for the lead. His 13 goals also tied him for first with teammate Johan Franzen.
