Detroit determines Franzen's injurySaturday 6/7, 3:49 PM CT
The Red Wings have determined Johan Franzen's head injury, according to the Detroit News. It was a subdural hematoma that forced Johan Franzen out of the Red Wings' lineup for six playoff contests. Subdural hematoma can be caused by minor accidents to the head, major trauma, or the spontaneous bursting of a blood vessel in the brain. GM Ken Holland said, "It's not going to affect him long term. Basically, in effect, it's a bruise. It's like when you get hit on a part of your body."

Our View: Franzen said he was concerned when first told of the injury, but felt better after being reassured by doctors it wouldn't reoccur. The injury is reportedly common with boxers.
Hossa may accept less money to staySaturday 6/7, 12:54 PM CT
Marian Hossa, who could become an unrestricted free agent July 1, mentioned that he would consider accepting a deal for less money to stay with the Penguins, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Hossa said, "If I wanted to make a couple more dollars, I would probably just re-sign with Atlanta. But I'm glad Pittsburgh got me here. This was a fun journey for myself, and a great experience. I hope I can stick with a great team like this. There's always a limit, but I'd rather take a little less and play on a good team, definitely."

Our View: This is good news for the Penguins' faithful, but it remains to be seen if he will ultimately turn down a very lucrative deal to sign with another club.
Redden on Panthers' radar? Saturday 6/7, 10:00 AM CT
Wade Redden is believed to be on the Panthers' radar, according to the Ottawa Sun.

Our View: Redden made it clear that he won't be returning to the Senators next season, as he refused to consider a cut of $3 million per season on his salary. He will become an unrestricted free agent, and Panthers' GM Jacques Martin is going to take a run at signing the defenseman. Martin was a former coach of Redden in Ottawa, and the Panthers could use his defensive presence.
Hasek to decide status soon Saturday 6/7, 8:02 AM CT
Dominik Hasek said he will decide within the next few days whether or not to retire from the NHL, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View: The 43-year goalie will meet with GM Ken Holland on Monday or Tuesday. Hasek took a back seat to Chris Osgood through the playoffs, and Hasek can leave the game as a champion if he opts for retirement. He only started 40 games in the regular season as well.
Niedermayer still undecided Saturday 6/7, 7:55 AM CT
Scott Niedermayer is still undecided as to whether he will play next season, according to the LA Times.

Our View: GM Brian Burke gave him a June 20 deadline to make up his mind, before the NHL entry draft. Niedermayer racked up eight goals and 17 assists over 48 contests in 2007-08.
Lilja to become free agent? Saturday 6/7, 7:36 AM CT
Andreas Lilja will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1 if the team cannot re-sign him by then, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View: Lilja notched 10 assists over 79 games this season, and both of his goals were game-winners. The defenseman noted that he would like to return next season, for a repeat bid at the Stanley Cup.
Potulny traded to Oilers Saturday 6/7, 7:29 AM CT
Forward Ryan Potulny has been traded to the Oilers for defenseman Danny Syvret, according to the AP.

Our View: The 23-year old Potulny notched one assist over seven games with the Flyers in 2007-08 and the team liked him, but needed to add depth to their defense.
Syvret dealt to Flyers Saturday 6/7, 7:23 AM CT
Defenseman Danny Syvret has been dealt from the Oilers to the Flyers for forward Ryan Potulny, according to the AP. Flyers' GM Paul Holmgren said, "Danny is a puck-moving defenceman that sees the ice well and will improve our depth. He had some success playing with Flyers Jeff Carter and Mike Richards at the 2005 world junior championship as a member of Team Canada."

Our View: Syvret has recorded one assist and 12 penalty minutes in 26 NHL games over two seasons.
