Kings can't buy out Cloutier?Monday 6/23, 5:31 PM CT
The Kings might not be allowed to buy out Dan Cloutier's contract, according to TSN.ca. Cloutier will undergo a physical soon, and if doctors conclude that he is not healthy, the Kings will have to pay him his full $3 million salary. If he is healthy, they will pay him $2 million and allow him to become an unrestricted free agent.

Our View: This is bad news for the Kings, but good news for Cloutier if he's just worried about money. We'll let you know what the doctors say.
Wings close to deal with LiljaMonday 6/23, 4:41 PM CT
The Red Wings are close to signing Andreas Lilja, who can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, to an extension, according to the Detroit News. "We may have something done by the end of the week," GM Ken Holland said. "We weren't far apart late in the season. I'm optimistic we'll get something done."

Our View: The Wings are also trying to work out a deal with fellow defenseman Brad Stuart, also a potential unrestricted free agent.
Ladd re-signs with Chicago Monday 6/23, 3:46 PM CT
Andrew Ladd has signed a two-year extension to remain with the Blackhawks, according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Chicago acquired the 22-year old from Carolina on February 26. He was a member of the Hurricanes' club that hoisted the Stanley Cup in 2006.
Clymer placed on waivers Monday 6/23, 3:33 PM CT
Ben Clymer has been placed on waivers by the Capitals, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: The 30-year old defenseman spent the entire 2007-2008 campaign with the Hershey Bears of the AHL, where he notched 11 goals and 16 assists over 50 games. If he clears waivers, the team is expected to buyout his contract.
Tanabe placed on waivers Monday 6/23, 3:28 PM CT
Defenseman David Tanabe has been placed on waivers by Carolina, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: He only registered one goal and two assists over 18 games with Carolina in 2007-08, and missed the final 47 contests of the regular season due to a concussion. He was once regarded as a top prospect, and should be tried out with another club.
Weber inks three-year deal Monday 6/23, 2:22 PM CT
Updating a previous report, Shea Weber has inked a three-year deal worth $13.5 million to remain with the Predators, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: He has avoided restricted free agency. The 22-year old defenseman has contributed 70 points over 161 regular season games, along with nine points over 15 playoff contests. Two of his six goals in 2007-08 were game-winners.
Weber's deal to be finished soon Monday 6/23, 7:16 AM CT
A multi-year deal for Shea Weber to remain in Nashville could be finished as early as Monday, according to the Tennessean. Weber said, "All I know is that things are going good so far. Hopefully we'll get something done soon."

Our View: The solid defenseman has racked up 70 points over 161 regular-season games for the Predators, as well as nine points in 15 playoff games.
Peca expected to talk with ColumbusMonday 6/23, 7:09 AM CT
Michael Peca's agent is expected to talk to the Blue Jackets regarding a possible return to the team, according to the Columbus Post-Dispatch.

Our View: The acquisition of RJ Umberger from the Flyers could push Peca out the door, who is to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
Hossa on Bruins' radar? Monday 6/23, 7:03 AM CT
Marian Hossa is believed to be on the Bruins' radar, according to the Boston Globe. It's very likely that talks between Boston and Hossa have begun, because it has become a trend for teams to be granted permission to speak with pending unrestricted free agents well ahead of the July 1 start of the NHL's open marketplace.

Our View: The Bruins wanted Hossa previously, but could not work out a deal prior to the trade deadline. The Penguins offered Hossa a seven-year deal worth $50 million to remain in Pittsburgh, and the Bruins are not likely to top that offer.
