Perron impressesSaturday 6/28, 11:58 PM CT
The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that one Blues prospect this week joked that David Perron needed to put on the brakes. With one year of NHL experience on nearly everyone at the development camp, Perron had some players looking gassed. "You know that I can tell with David Perron ... he wants it as bad as anybody in the NHL," Blues President John Davidson said. "Now that he's made the NHL, he wants to come back and prove that he can play at another level. The passion that that kid has is special.

Our View: Perron will receive attention in fantasy drafts next season, but his real value rests in keeper leagues.
TB trades 4th-round pick for shot at Malone, RobertsSaturday 6/28, 1:48 PM CT
The NHL free agent market is as fresh as can be, but the Tampa Bay Lightning have wasted no time getting busy, according to TSN.ca. TSN is reporting the Lightning have traded a fourth-round draft pick to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for the negotiation rights to forwards Ryan Malone and Gary Roberts, scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on July 1.

Our View: Sources say if the Lightning were to sign Malone, the more coveted free agent of the two, the fourth-round pick would become a third-round pick. Malone has indicated he intends to go to July 1 to see what the market would bear for his services. Whether this development changes that remains to be seen. It is more likely the Lightning may be able to sign the veteran Roberts, who said during the playoffs that he intended to play again but knew it would not be for the Penguins.
Bertuzzi clears waiversSaturday 6/28, 1:42 PM CT
Updating an earlier story, Todd Bertuzzi , recently released by the Anaheim Ducks, has official cleared league waivers and is now listed as an unrestricted free agent, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: Earlier this morning we reported the Detroit Red Wings are rumored to be going after Bertuzzi should he come to pass through the other end of that process. Now he is available and we suspect news of a new employer (most likely the defending champs) will be coming sooner rather than later.
Tucker may get attention from DevilsSaturday 6/28, 9:35 AM CT
He's on the market for hire and now the New Jersey Devils may be prepared to offer winger Darcy Tucker a place to play, according to the New York Post.

Our View: The Devils will be meeting with agent Carlos Sosa to seal a new deal for Bryce Salvador today, and Sosa also represents Tucker. Sosa, Salvador and general manager Lou Lamoriello are expected to try today to hammer out a multiyear deal, with Salvador probably asking some $3 million per season with a limited-movement clause. Salvador, a defenseman acquired from the Blues at the trade deadline for Cam Janssen, can become unrestricted Tuesday after making $1.5 million last season. Meanwhile you can bet Sosa will be bringing Tucker's resume to the meeting with him and the Devils could benefit from his services. They have the dough to make it work, but only time will tell. We'll keep you posted.
Jagr may be done in NY (and in the NHL)Saturday 6/28, 9:25 AM CT
The reports from New York earlier this month indicated the Rangers were focused on keeping veteran winger Jaromir Jagr on the roster, but it now appears those efforts on are on the rocks, according to the New York Post.

Our View: Jagr's agent, Pat Brisson, told The Post yesterday that Jagr would prefer to sign a new contract with the Rangers in lieu of reaching unrestricted free agency on Tuesday, he made it clear the winger is seeking a multi-year deal GM Glen Sather doesn't seem willing to offer. At this point, Jagr could be considering retirement. If the Rangers won't keep him on and a one-year deal is not something he wants, stepping away has be an option he is pondering.
Sundin pondering MontrealSaturday 6/28, 9:07 AM CT
Veteran forward and future Hall of Fame skater Mats Sundin may be giving a long, hard line of thought to becoming a Montreal Canadien, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View: Sundin was to talk with his agent J.P. Barry and Montreal general manager Bob Gainey yesterday in what was expected to be a decision-making day. It would have been the second such discussion this week. The Habs, who gained Toronto's approval for negotiating rights with Sundin until the July 1 free agent period starts, hope Sundin will be part of their 100th anniversary celebrations next season -- if they can sign him. However there was no word out of the Sundin camp yesterday. The Leafs also indicated they received no word from their captain.
Bertuzzi to Detroit?Saturday 6/28, 8:47 AM CT
Reports indicate recently-released forward Todd Bertuzzi could be heading back to Detroit, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: The Ducked placed the veteran bruiser on waivers on Friday with intentions of buying out the final year on his two-season contract. If he clears that process unclaimed, Bertuzzi will become an unrestricted free agent and the Wings are apparently ready to bring him in. We will update as news comes forth.
