TSN of Canada reports that Tampa Bay agreed with Vaclav Prospal to a multi-year contract after the Lightning acquired his rights from the Philadelphia Flyers on June 18 in exchange for Nashville's seventh-round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft and Tampa Bay's fourth-round pick in 2009. "We were very pleased to be able to announce last week that we had reached terms with Vinny Prospal to bring him back to Tampa," owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie said.

Our View: The 33-year-old recorded four goals and 14 points in 18 regular-season contests last year following the trade.
Liles re-signs with AvsMonday 6/30, 7:35 PM CT
John-Michael Liles, who led all Avs defensemen with 32 points (6-26) in 81 games last season, has signed a $16-million four-year contract with the team, this according to The Canadian Press. Liles recorded 20 of his 32 points on the power play and finished third on the club with 121 blocked shots.

Our View: He had five points (2-3) in 10 post-season games.
Avalanche re-sign FooteMonday 6/30, 7:32 PM CT
Adam Foote re-signed with Colorado on Monday, a two-year deal reportedly worth $6-million, this according to The Canadian Press. Foote began last season with Columbus before being acquired by the Avalanche at the trade deadline.

Our View: He had 16 points (1-15) and 107 penalty minutes in 75 games for the Avalanche and Blue Jackets last season. He also skated in all 10 playoff games for Colorado.
Miller and Sabres talkingMonday 6/30, 7:14 PM CT
The Buffalo Sabres have started talks with Ryan Miller and his agent in a bid to sign the star goaltender to a lucrative long-term deal this summer, this according to TSN.ca. The report notes that general manager Darcy Regier said he is commitment to building from within rather than through NHL free agency, which begins Tuesday.

Our View: The Sabres are expected to take a more aggressive approach this off-season after being faulted for waiting too long to lock up co-captains Chris Drury and Daniel Briere a year ago.
Lilja re-signs with ChampsMonday 6/30, 7:07 PM CT
Andreas Lilja will remain with the Red Wings after signing a two-year contract extension on Monday, this according to TSN.ca. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but media reports say the deal is a small raise from his 2007 $1 million salary.

Our View: Entering his eighth NHL season and fourth with Detroit, Lilja tallied two goals and 10 assists with a minus -2 rating in 79 games played last season.
Lightning acquire Niskala Monday 6/30, 2:58 PM CT
The Lightning have acquired defenseman Janne Niskala from the Flyers in exchange for a sixth-round choice in the 2009 draft, according to the AP.

Our View: The 26-year old Niskala was a fifth-round pick by the Predators in the 2004 draft and had 19 goals and 44 points last year in the AHL. He was acquired by the Flyers from the Predators last week.

Denis Gauthier has been waived by the Flyers, with the intent to buy him out, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: The defenseman scored 3 goals and 15 assists over 78 games for the Philadelphia Phantoms of the AHL last season. He only notched four assists over 43 games with the Flyers back in 2006-07.
Olesz agrees to multi-year deal Monday 6/30, 12:44 PM CT
Rostislav Olesz has agreed to a multi-year deal to remain with the Panthers, according to TSN.ca. Sources indicate it is a six-year, $18.75 million deal, with an annual salary cap hit of $3.125 million.

Our View: Olesz was on the verge of a breakout campaign in 2007-08 but was hampered by a hand injury most of the year, which limited him to 14 goals and 12 assists (26 points) over 56 games. He notably registered four goals and two assists over eight games played in February.
Ramholt dealt to Flyers Monday 6/30, 12:18 PM CT
The Flyers have acquired defenseman Tim Ramholt from the Flames in exchange for winger Kyle Greentree, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: The 23-year-old Ramholt recorded four goals and 20 assists (24 points) and 73 penalty minutes over 77 regular season games for the Quad City Flames of the AHL.
Columbus buys out Westcott Monday 6/30, 12:11 PM CT
The Blue Jackets have bought out the remainder of Duvie Westcott's contract, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: Westcott had trouble staying healthy while with the Blue Jackets, due namely to concussions. He was sent to minor-league Syracuse last season, and would be making $1.85 million with the club this season if they kept him.
Thrashers buyout Zhitnik Monday 6/30, 12:07 PM CT
The Thrashers have bought out the remainder of Alexei Zhitnik's contract, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: He has cleared waivers and is now a free agent. The 15-year vet only scored three goals and five assists over 65 games with Atlanta in 2007-08.
Roberts inks with Lightning Monday 6/30, 9:54 AM CT
Gary Roberts has signed a one-year deal with the Lightning, according to TSN.ca. Roberts will be paid a base salary of $1.25 million plus $10,000 for every game that he plays in the 2008-09 regular season.

Our View: He would make $2.07 million if he plays all 82 games, which is a good deal for the aging 42-year-old winger, since he made $2.5 million with the Penguins last season.
Campbell will be Senators top target Monday 6/30, 8:35 AM CT
Defenseman Brian Campbell is going to be the Senators' top target when free agency opens on July 1, according to Slam Sports. Campbell said, "Ottawa is definitely a team I'd consider. You hear a lot of rumors and speculation about the Senators being interested. I know that city as well as I know Buffalo and probably better than San Jose."

Our View: The Senators would like Campbell to replace the departing Wade Redden. He is going to be a hot target, and the Rangers, Thrashers, Maple Leafs, Canadiens, Bruins and Blackhawks, are all believed to take a shot at acquiring his services.
Greene traded to Kings Monday 6/30, 7:55 AM CT
Matt Greene and Jarret Stoll have been traded to the Kings in exchange for defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, according to the Edmonton Sun.

Our View: Greene only registered one assist over 46 games with Edmonton in 2007-08, and isn't likely going to be "fantasy worthy" in Los Angeles.

Jarrett Stoll and Matt Greene have been dealt to the Kings in exchange for defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, according to the Edmonton Sun.

Our View: Stoll only scored 14 goals and 22 assists (36 points) over 81 games with Edmonton in 2007-08, but could benefit from a change on scenery in Los Angeles.

Defenseman Joni Pitkanen is said to be on the trading block for the Oilers, according to the Edmonton Sun.

Our View: The team recently acquired defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky from the Kings, and Pitkanen is reportedly going to be part of a package deal to land a forward.
Lalime could return to Ottawa? Monday 6/30, 7:24 AM CT
Patrick Lalime is set to become a free agent on July 1 and may be re-signing with the Senators, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: He played five seasons for the Senators, while winning a franchise-record 146 games, with 39 wins coming in 2002-03. If Chicago doesn't add another goalie, Corey Crawford would inherit the top backup role behind Nikolai Khabibulin.
Williams may hit free agency Monday 6/30, 7:18 AM CT
Jason Williams is asking for more money than the team is prepared to offer him and he could be heading to free agency on July 1, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View: Williams battled through injuries in 2007-08, but managed to chip in 13 goals and 23 assists (36 points) over 43 games. Six of his goals were scored on a power-play and four were game-winners. He will garner interest if he hits the free agent market, namely for his skills on the power-play.
Marleau likely to remain in San Jose Monday 6/30, 7:11 AM CT
Patrick Marleau has been mentioned in trade talks through the off-season, but his no-trade clause becomes effective on July 1, meaning he looks to remain with the Sharks unless he is dealt by tomorrow, according to the Mercury News.

Our View: Marleau has spent his entire NHL career with the Sharks since being selected with the second overall pick in 1997. He dipped to 19 goals over 78 games in 2007-08, but he could bounce back next season and challenge 30 goals once again.
Brown will not get new deal Monday 6/30, 7:05 AM CT
Curtis Brown will not get a new deal from the Sharks, according to the Mercury News.

Our View: Brown only scored five goals and four assists over 33 games with San Jose in 2007-08. He isn't likely to make a fantasy impact if he signs with another club.
Wideman files for arbitration Monday 6/30, 7:00 AM CT
Dennis Wideman has filed for arbitration, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View: Wideman's hearing cannot be held before July 20 or later than August 4. And the decision will not be rendered until July 22 at the earliest, August 6 at the latest.
