Mats Sundin could be considering retirement, according to the AP. Sundin said, "I spent a great deal of time reflecting upon the teams who stepped forward and the opportunities that each provided. Unfortunately, I am simply not close to being ready to make a decision about resuming my career at this time." He added, "I would like to thank all the teams who have expressed such sincere interest in my services. The numerous options provided to me were impressive, and I have no doubt that each one presented a unique opportunity for me to finish my career in a terrific hockey environment. I wish all the teams the very best and thank them for their interest."

Our View: Sundin is reportedly drawing interest from as many as four different teams, and the Canucks are said to have offered him a two-year, $20-million deal.
Huselius lands in Columbus Wednesday 7/2, 8:57 PM CT
Kristian Huselius has left Calgary as he inked a four-year deal with Columbus worth $4.75 million a season, according to TSN.

Our View: Huselius was a great acquisition for the Blue Jackets, as he scored 25 goals and 41 assists (66 points) over 81 games with the Flames in 2007-08, along with 40 penalty minutes.

The Coyotes have inked former Islanders' defenseman Drew Fata, according to the AP.

Our View: Fata racked up on assist and four penalty minutes over five games with the Islanders in 2007-08.

Our View: The 26-year-old racked up seven goals and 12 assists over 56 games with Minnesota in 2007-08.

According to TSN.ca, Brandon Crombeen has been signed by the Dallas Stars to a one-year deal that will pay him $550,000.

Our View: The 22-year-old Crombeen played eight games with the Dallas Stars last year. He managed two assists and 39 PIM during his time with the club.

According to the AP, The colorado Avalanche re-signed forward Wojtek Wolski to a two-year contract on Wednesday.

Our View: The organization still desperately hopes that Sakic will return. Wolski, who followed up a 22 goal rookie season with 18 scores last year, will be entering his third season looking to take the next step after averaging 49 points the past two years.

The Blue Jackets have sent Nikolai Zherdev and Dan Fritsche to the Rangers in exchange for Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: Zherdev was the fourth overall pick of the 2003 draft, and is coming off his most productive season as he racked up 26 goals and 35 assists (61 points) over 82 games with Columbus in 2007-08.

Reported by the Piisburgh Post-gazette, Defenseman Brooks Orpik has been resigned by the Penguins to a six-year contract. Financial terms have yet to be disclosed.

Our View: Orpik played in 78 games last year for Pittsburgh. He tallied one goal, 10 assists, and 57 PIM for the season.

Goalie Yann Danis has inked a one-year deal with the Islanders, according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: The 27-year-old Danis has been out of the NHL the past two years, and recorded a 3-2-0 record with a 2.69 goals-against average in six games for the Canadiens back in 2005-06.

Espn.com reports Shean Donovan has signed a two-year deal to continue playing for the Ottawa Senators.

Our View: Donovan scored 12 points last year with the Senators, which included five goals and 7 assists.

According to TSN.ca, The Atlanta Thrashers have signed defenceman Ron Hainsey to a five-year, 22.5 million deal.

Our View: Playing for the Blue Jackets last season Hainsey scored 32 points, eight goals and 24 assists.

TSN.ca reports that the Ottawa Senators have signed Jarkko Ruutu to a three-year, $3.9 million deal.

Our View: Ruutu should add some grit to the Sens back line, he served 138 minutes in the sin bin last year. He also scored six goals and 10 assists.

According to TSN, The Vancouver Canucks have signed defenseman Nolan Baumgartner. Terms were undisclosed.

Our View: The 32-year-old Baumgartner did not play in the NHL last season. However, in the 2006-2007 season he tallied three assists in 13 games played between the Flyers and Stars.

TSN reports the Boston Bruins have signed forward Petteri Nokelainen to a multi-year contract. Terms of the deal were not released.

Our View: Nokelainen played in 57 games last year, posting seven goals and three assists for Boston.

Dallasnews.com reports that the Stars have signed Sean Avery to a four-year, $15.5 million deal.

Our View: This perennial badboy should add some attitude to the Dallas roster. Avery managed 15 goals and 18 assists last year in addition to his 154 penalty minutes, while playing for the New York Rangers.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that star right winger Marian Hossa has signed a one-year, $7.4 million deal with the Red Wings.

Our View: Coming off his scorching-hot performance in the playoffs with 26 points in 20 games, the Stanley Cup Champion Red Wings have added another star to their roster. Hossa could very well end up playing on a line consisting of superstars Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. Look for Hossa to rebound from his 66 points last year, and challenge his career best 100-point season.

Josef Melichar has rejoined the NHL. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the former Penguin has signed a one-year contract to play for Carolina.

Our View: He last played in the NHL for Pittsburgh back in 2006-07, and scored one goal and 11 assists over 70 games.
Huet signs with ChicagoWednesday 7/2, 9:27 AM CT
It's official according to the Rocky Mountain News, the Chicago Blackhawks have signed former Washington Capitals goaltender Cristobal Huet to a four-year, $22.4 million deal.

Our View: Huet played in 52 games between Montreal and Washington last year recording 32 wins against 14 losses.
Lighting re-sign CraigWednesday 7/2, 9:24 AM CT
The Tampa Bay Lightning re-signed center Ryan Craig to a two-year contract on Wednesday, this according to The Sports Network. Financial terms for the restricted free agent were not disclosed. "We are glad Ryan has agreed to come back to the Lightning for two more years," said owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie upon making the announcement."

Our View: Craig missed 72 games last season with back and knee injuries. He notched one goal and one assist in seven games.
