The AP reports that Owen Nolan signed a two-year $5.5 million deal with the Minnesota Wild.

Our View: Nolan scored 16 goals to go with 16 assists last season in 77 games with Calgary. His numbers figure to be pretty similar in Minnesota.
Filppula files for arbitration Sunday 7/6, 10:48 AM CT
Red Wings' center Valtteri Filppula has filed for salary arbitration, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: He provided strong depth up the middle for Detroit in 2007-08, as he contributed 19 goals and 17 assists (36 points) over 78 games in the regular season. Three of those goals were game-winners.
McLaren on Senators' radar? Sunday 7/6, 8:21 AM CT
The Senators covet a defenseman and team GM Bryan Murray has reportedly made an offer to Kyle McLaren of the Sharks, according to the Ottawa Sun.

Our View: The 31-year-old generated three goals and eight assists over 61 games with San Jose in 2007-08, to go along with 84 penalty minutes.
Kulemin will be at prospects camp Sunday 7/6, 8:13 AM CT
Nikolai Kulemin is expected to attend the Maple Leafs' prospects camp next week, according to the Toronto Star. He said, "I'm in Russia but I'm going to Toronto to train with the team."

Our View: The 21-year-old racked up 48 goals over two campaigns in the Russian Super League. The winger will have a good shot to hold a role in Toronto this season, when you consider the numerous vacancies up front.
Veilleux files for arbitration Sunday 7/6, 8:06 AM CT
Stephane Veilleux has filed for salary arbitration, according to the Star Tribune. Team-mate Pierre-Marc Bouchard has done the same.

Our View: In one week, both players will have arbitration dates set for some time between July 20 and August 4, and in the interim, Minnesota can continue to negotiate with the two wingers. Veilleux scored a career-best 11 goals last season.
Laich headed for arbitration Sunday 7/6, 7:30 AM CT
Brooks Laich has elected to take the Capitals to salary arbitration, according to TSN. Defenseman Shaone Morrison is also taking the club to arbitration.

Our View: Laich reached new highs with 21 goals and 16 assists (37 points) over 82 games in 2007-08. The 25-year old center scored a point in each of the Capitals' final five games of the postseason against the Flyers, notching six (one goal) over the span.
Konopka signs with Lightning Sunday 7/6, 7:15 AM CT
Former Columbus center Zenon Konopka has signed a two-year contract with Tampa Bay, according to the Tampa Tribune. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Konopko racked up 15 penalty minutes, with no goals or assists over three brief games with the Blue Jackets in 2007-08. He spent most of the season with the Syracuse Crunch of the AHL, where he finished second on the team with 55 points.
Stajan close to new deal Sunday 7/6, 7:05 AM CT
Matthew Stajan is close to inking a new multi-year deal with the Maple Leafs, according to the Toronto Sun. Assistant GM Jeff Jackson said, "We're getting pretty close. Matt is on holiday in Europe and we hope to have it settled when he gets back at the end of the week."

Our View: Stajan made $950,000 (US) last season and is looking for a contract between $1.6 million and $2 million a year. Stajan was one of only three members of the Leafs to play in all 82 games last season, and recorded 16 goals and 17 assists.
Vermette heads for salary arbitrationSunday 7/6, 7:00 AM CT
Antoine Vermette is going to take the Senators to salary arbitration, according to the Toronto Sun.

Our View: Vermette enjoyed a solid campaign in 2007-08, as he registered 24 goals and 29 assists (53 points) over 81 games. He has previously been mentioned in trade rumors, and was believed to be on the radar of the Blue Jackets, Canucks, and Thrashers.
