Veilleux placed on waiversWednesday 7/16, 9:31 PM CT
Stephane Veilleux was placed on waivers on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. “I know, at the end of the day, someone will pick me up,” he said. “I wanted to be in Minnesota, but things happen. It’s business.”

Our View: Veilleux was unable to work out a new contract with the club after filing for arbitration, so the team chose to part ways with the defensive minded forward who scored a season high 11 goals last season.
Wild sign Olvekcy, StonerWednesday 7/16, 8:05 PM CT
LW Peter Olvecky and D Clayton Sonter signed 1-year contracts with the Wild on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Olvecky was the 78th overall selection in the 2004 draft and he spent all of last season with the Houston Aeros of the AHL recording 17 goals and 33 points in 61 games. Neither he, nor Stoner, should be on any fantasy radars this season.
Woywitka re-signs with BluesWednesday 7/16, 7:59 PM CT
Jeff Woywitka signed a 1-year contract for $725,000 to remain with the St. Louis Blues, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Woywitka had two goals and an NHL high eight points last season while scoring 10 times with 30 points in 52 games for the AHL Riverman.
Lundmark returns to FlamesWednesday 7/16, 6:36 PM CT
Jamie Lundmark returned to the organization that he spent parts of two seasons with when he signed a contract with the Flames, according to the Associated Press. Terms of the deal were not announced.

Our View: Lundmark didn't play an NHL game last season and has just 232 games under his belt since being selected in the 1999 draft.
Horcoff happy to stay in EdmontonWednesday 7/16, 5:42 PM CT
Shawn Horcoff signed a six year deal worth $33 million to remain with the Oilers on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. “Shawn has proven himself as one of the premier players in the National Hockey League and has been and will continue to be an integral part of our organization moving forward,” Oilers general manager Kevin Lowe said.

Our View: Horcoff was limited to just 53 games last season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery, though he still scored 50 points. He is expected to be ready to go by the start of the year and represents a solid buy low option this year, especially if he continues to team with Ales Hemsky on a line for the Oilers.
Lehtonen re-signs with ThrashersWednesday 7/16, 4:52 PM CT
Kari Lehtonen, a restricted free agent, re-signed with the Thrashers on Wednesday though term were not announced, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View: Lehtonen had an extremely uneven year going 17-22-5 for the Thrashers, though his SV% of .916 showed that more often than not it was a lack of solid play in front of him that led to his poor production. He is perfectly suited to be a solid goalie two in the coming season, one with some upside if the team can tighten up things on defense.
Winchester inks deal with BluesWednesday 7/16, 4:47 PM CT
Free agent forward Brad Winchester signed a contract to play with the St. Louis Blues organization in the upcoming season, according to The Sports Network.

Our View: Winchester has played all of 119 NHL games contributing five goals and eight assists, and last year he skated in 41 games with three points. He did manage to see action in six playoff games with Dallas, but offers no upside in the fantasy game.
Preds resign KleinWednesday 7/16, 4:43 PM CT
Kevin Klein was signed to a 2-year deal worth $1.3 million dollars on Wednesday, according to The Sports Network.

Our View: Klein has yet to make his mark at the NHL level after being selected in the second round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He could have a chance to make the club out of camp this year, but even if he does, his outlook is limited.
Pcard resigns with JacketsWednesday 7/16, 4:41 PM CT
Alexandre Picard was one of three players who the Blue Jackets signed on Wednesday to contracts, according to TSN. The other two players signed were D Marc Methot and F Steve Kelly. Per team rules, no financial terms were disclosed.

Our View: On a slow news day we are searching the wire for news, so here you go. None of the three figure to make any impact in the coming season unless something unforeseen were to occur.
Wrigley to host hockey gameWednesday 7/16, 4:38 PM CT
Wrigley Field in Chicago will be the scene of the NHL's annual outdoor game on January 1st in an event that will pit the Chicago Blackhawks against the Detroit Red Wings, according to NHL.com. "The NHL is delighted to bring its most historic rivalry to one of the most historic venues in sports," NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman said.

Our View: The league's annual outdoor event has been a huge success, and this seasons event figures to be equally as thrilling.
O'Bryne resigns with HabsWednesday 7/16, 4:31 PM CT
Ryan O'Bryne signed a 3-year deal to remain a member of the Montreal Canadiens, according to The Sports Network. "Ryan acquired a great deal of NHL experience last season," said GM Bob Gainey. "He is part of our young core of defenseman and certainly has the potential of becoming a very good NHL player." Shawn Belle also signed a 1-year deal.

Our View: O'Bryne is just 24 years old, and would seem to have a bright future, even if that doesn't include him staring on any fantasy squads in the upcoming season.
Ersberg, three others sign with KingsWednesday 7/16, 4:12 PM CT
Erik Ersberg was one of four Kings who resigned on Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. The other three to signs deals were Gabe Gauthier, Matt Moulson and Joe Piskula.

Our View: Ersberg played in 14 games last season with a stellar .927 SV%, but rumors are flying that the Kings might acquire Nikolai Khabibulin which could render Ersberg as a bit player if the team chooses to give future starter Jonathan Bernier a larger role.
Tambellini signs two-year dealWednesday 7/16, 3:47 PM CT
The Islanders signed Jeff Tambellini to a two-year, $1.175 deal Wednesday, according to TSN.ca. The contract is one way. "We're extremely happy that we have Jeff as a member of the Islanders organization for the next two years," Islanders GM Garth Snow said. "We know that Jeff will come to training camp in shape and ready to compete in September and we look forward to it."

Our View: Tambellini doesn't deserve much attention in fantasy circles.
Paille inks two-year extensionWednesday 7/16, 3:45 PM CT
The Sabres re-signed Dan Paille to a two-year, $2.25 million deal Wednesday, according to TSN.ca. He had 35 points in 77 games last year. "Danny is a talented young player that can make a difference at both ends of the ice," Sabres GM Darcy Regier said in a statement. "Danny has been a key component to our penalty killing unit and we look forward to helping him continue to develop with our club for years to come."

Our View: Paille took a big step forward last season, and the Sabres hope his development will continue.

The Rangers re-signed Nigel Dawes to a one-year, $587,500 deal Wednesday, according to TSN.ca. Dawes registered 14 goals and 15 assists in 61 games for the Blueshirts last season.

Our View: The 23-year-old could be considered a deep sleeper on draft day next year.
