Our View: Murray played seven games in the NHL last year registering no points before getting injured. He possesses no fantasy value.

Joffrey Lupul has signed a four-year extension with the Philadelphia Flyers, according to TSN.com. Lupul was a 20-goal scorer a year ago.

Our View: Lupul had 26 assists to go with his 20 goals, scoring 46 points in just 56 games. He has the potential to put up big numbers over an 82-game season and fantasy owners should take note.
Towes named captainFriday 7/18, 7:28 PM CT
Jonathan Toews will be the captain of the Chicago Blackhawks when the season begins, according to TSN.com.

Our View: Toews is one of the most dynamic young players in the game, and is helping to lead the Blackhawks back to prominence. He should be a top selection in fantasy hockey drafts.
Therrien gets new contractFriday 7/18, 5:55 PM CT
Pittsburgh head coach Michel Therrien has received a new three-year contract after leading Sidney Crosby and the rest of the Penguins to the Stanley Cup Finals, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Therrien gets to coach Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, which certainly makes his job easier. Still, he gets the most out of their talent and now gets the opportunity to continue to do so for the next three seasons.
Radulov suspended from IIHFFriday 7/18, 3:56 PM CT
Alexander Radulov has been suspended by the International Ice Hockey Federation as they investigate the details of his transfer to the Continental Hockey League in Russia, according to TSN. A statement from the IIHF read, "Until this investigation has come to its final conclusion and the IIHF has rendered its decisions, all concerned players will be suspended from international transfers and competitions." IIHF president Rene Fasel added, "We hope that this can be resolved amicably and in a timely manner. It is unfortunate that we are already facing such difficulties after the progress that was made last week. I am hoping that all sides can come to a solution."

Our View: The suspensions come just one week after the IIHF, the NHL and its Players' Association agreed to respect the contracts of hockey players in their respective leagues. Other players suspended are Nikita Filatov, Thomas Mojzis, Jason Krog, Fedor Fedorov, and Viktor Tikhonov.
Oilers sign Drouin-DeslauriersFriday 7/18, 1:07 PM CT
The Oilers have signed Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers to a two-year deal, according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: He spent last season with Springfield of the AHL, while posting a 26-23-5 record with a 2.90 GAA. The team believes he made significant strides in the off-season, and is ready to challenge for a role in 2008-09.
Miller inks extension with Sabres Friday 7/18, 11:13 AM CT
Ryan Miller has inked a five-year extension with the Sabres, according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: The club felt he was worthy of investing in long-term as he went 36-27-10 in 2007-08, with a 2.64 GAA. He had three shutouts to his credit.
Thrashers sign Esposito Friday 7/18, 10:23 AM CT
The Thrashers have signed prospect Angelo Esposito to a multi-year deal, according to the AP. Specific terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Our View: The 19-year-old scored 30 goals and 69 points over 56 games with Quebec of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this past season. He was selected by the Penguins with the 20th overall pick in the 2007 draft.
Columbus re-signs Rome Friday 7/18, 7:22 AM CT
The Blue Jackets have re-signed Aaron Rome to a one-year deal, according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Rome played in 17 games for the Blue Jackets last season, and recorded one goal, one assist, and 33 penalty minutes. He spent most of the season between Syracuse and Portland of the AHL. The defenseman shouldn't hold much fantasy value next season.
Flames re-sign Pardy Friday 7/18, 7:17 AM CT
The Flames have re-signed Adam Pardy, according to the AP. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Our View: Pardy played in 65 games with Quad Cities of the AHL last season, while recording five goals, 13 assists and 67 penalty minutes. He was recalled twice by the Flames but did not appear in an NHL game.
Hahl to play in Sweden Friday 7/18, 7:14 AM CT
Former member of the Avalanche Riku Hahl has signed a two-year deal with Frolunda HC of the Swedish Elite League, according to the AP.

Our View: Hahl spent the previous two seasons with Timra IK and last played in the NHL in 2003-04. He said, "I needed a new challenge as a player. I had several good offers to choose from, but when Frolunda came up as an alternative, I jumped on it right away. Frolunda is one of Europe’s best clubs."
