NEWSBREAKERS NHL
Tukonen dealt to DallasMonday 7/21, 8:26 PM CT
The Stars have acquired forward Lauri Tukonen from the Kings in exchange for forward Richard Clune, the AP reports. Tukonen was the No. 11 selection in the 2004 draft.

Our View: Tukonen will fight for a fourth-line spot with the Stars, and hopefully the change of scenery will do him good.
Federov back in the StatesMonday 7/21, 4:04 PM CT
The Devils signed center Fedor Fedorov to an undisclosed deal on Monday, the Ticker reports. Federov, 27, was most recently in the NHL in 2005-06 with the Rangers. He spent last season with Dynamo of the Russian League.

Our View: Federov has been far from a dynamo in his 18 career NHL games (two points), and he won't have any fantasy value for 2008-09.
Crawford re-signs with Hawks Monday 7/21, 3:40 PM CT
Corey Crawford has re-signed the Blackhawks, according to the AP. He agreed to a one-year deal, but financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: The 23-year-old went 1-2 with a 2.14 GAA with Chicago in 2007-08. He is expected to hold a larger role next season, and could play as many 30 games while serving as the top backup to starter Nikolai Khabibulin.
Harrold re-signs with KingsMonday 7/21, 2:15 PM CT
Peter Harrold has been re-signed by the Los Angeles Kings, according to the Sports Ticker.

Our View: He had minimal impact last season with just two goals and three assists in 25 games. At 25, he will likely improve on those numbers but not enough to warrant much fantasy consideration.
Ericsson re-signs with Detroit Monday 7/21, 11:57 AM CT
Jonathan Ericsson has re-signed with Detroit, according to the AP. He agreed to a three-year deal, and will make $550,000 next season.

Our View: The defenseman scored one goal with four penalty minutes over eight games with Detroit last season, with his lone score coming on the power-play. He could see more action with the team next season, but isn't likely going to be fantasy worthy.
Detroit re-signs HowardMonday 7/21, 11:44 AM CT
The Red Wings have re-signed Jimmy Howard to a three-year deal, according to the AP. He will earn $600,000 next season.

Our View: He went 0-2 over four appearances (two starts) with the Wings last season. He should earn more starts this season behind Chris Osgood.
Penguins re-sign Taffe Monday 7/21, 11:18 AM CT
The Penguins have re-signed Jeff Taffe to a one-year deal, according to the Sports Network. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: He contributed five goals and seven assists over 45 games with the Penguins last season.
Rangers ink Moore Monday 7/21, 11:14 AM CT
Greg Moore agreed to terms with the Rangers, according to the AP. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Our View: Moore spent most of last season with the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL, and racked up 26 goals and 40 assists over 72 games. He did not register any points over six brief outings with the Rangers.
Downie looking forward to new startMonday 7/21, 10:38 AM CT
Steve Downie was benched after making two crucial turnovers (that led to goals) in consecutive games of the Eastern Conference Finals last May, but is looking forward to a fresh start next season, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Downie said, "I haven't thought the turnovers at all. You don't want to keep negativity in your head."

Our View: He only scored six goals last season, but the team likes his toughness, as he also racked up 73 penalty minutes. His production should go up next season and he could be worthy of a late-round pick, especially in leagues that award points for penalty minutes.
