Blues forward Dan Hinote will marry former Playboy Playmate Amy McCarthy, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Amy is the younger sister of Jenny McCarthy, the more famous ex-Playmate.

Our View: This has absolutely nothing to do with fantasy hockey, but it deserves a mention anyway.
Kopitar trade unlikelyFriday 7/25, 8:02 PM CT
Despite rumors that the Los Angeles Kings are discussing dealing Anze Kopitar, is is highly unlikely to happen, according to Allan Muir of SI.com.

Our View: We should hope not, especially because the package the Kings had been rumored to be getting (Khabibulin), is a bad deal. Kopitar should be taken fairly early in fantasy hockey drafts.
Shanahan will return to iceFriday 7/25, 7:08 PM CT
Winger Brendan Shanahan has decided he will play one more season, and would like it to be for the Rangers, according to TSN.com.

Our View: The likely Hall of Famer said he is open to playing for other squads, but New York remains his destination of choice. Shanahan coulde be a useful depth player on fantasy squads after amassing 46 points last season.
Montreal signs LehouxFriday 7/25, 5:14 PM CT
Center Yanick Lehoux has been signed by the Montreal Canadiens, according to TSN.com.

Our View: Lehoux spent part of last season in Russia, and played just seven games for Phoenix in 2006-2007. He holds no value in fantasy leagues.
Rinne re-signs with Predators Friday 7/25, 1:08 PM CT
Pekka Rinne signed a one-year extension with the Predators, according to the AP. Rinne’s extension will pay him $725,000 beginning in 2009-10.

Our View: Rinne only saw action briefly in one game with Nashville last season, and isn't going to make an impact with the club in 2008-09.
Nashville signs Peverley Friday 7/25, 1:02 PM CT
The Predators have signed Rich Peverley to a two-year deal, according to the AP. Peverley will be paid $475,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 at the minor league level in the first year of the contract. In the second year, he will make $500,000.

Our View: Peverley played in a career-high 33 games with Nashville last season, but only scored five goals and five assists.
Blue Jackets sign York Friday 7/25, 12:32 PM CT
The Blue Jackets have signed Mike York to a one-year contract, according to the AP. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: The 30-year-old will be joining his sixth team with Columbus, and only chipped in six goals and eight assists over 63 games with the Coyotes last season.
Colorado signs Svatos Friday 7/25, 12:07 PM CT
Colorado signed Marek Svatos to a two-year deal worth $4.1 million, according to the Rocky Mountain News. The Avalanche avoided a scheduled arbitration hearing by signing him. Francois Giguere said, "Marek Svatos has been a key ingredient to our success the last few years. He’s scored many big goals for this club and we expect him to be a strong force for us again this season."

Our View: This was a key signing for Colorado, as he contributed 26 goals (and 11 assists) over 62 games to the club last season.
Gervais re-signs with Islanders Friday 7/25, 8:21 AM CT
Bruno Gervais has signed a three-year deal to remain with the Islanders, according to Newsday. The contract is worth just over $2.2 million.

Our View: Gervais racked up 13 assists with no goals in 2007-08, and will remain a bottom-level option as a defenseman next season.
