Six teams want SundinWednesday 7/30, 11:30 PM CT
Despite earlier reports from Canada stating the race was down to two teams, the agent for Mats Sundin now indicates six teams in all are vying for the services of the future Hall of Famer, accordign to TSN.

Our View: Agent JP Barry has told the press these teams would like to keep their names out of the report, but he claims new teams have jumped into the bidding upon hearing he would return to Toronto or sign with Vancouver. Barry did admit that Detroit is not one of the teams interested.
Rangers close deal with SjostromWednesday 7/30, 7:09 PM CT
The New York Rangers agreed to terms with restricted free-agent forward Fredrik Sjostrom on Monday, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Sjostrom appeared in 69 games for the Coyotes and Rangers last season, posting 12 goals and 21 points. He tallied twice in 18 games with the Blueshirts after the club acquired him in a trade-deadline deal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Leclaire re-signs with ColumbusWednesday 7/30, 5:30 PM CT
The AP reports that the Blue Jackets re-signed restricted free agent goalie Pascal Leclaire on Wednesday to a three-year contract through the 2010-11 season. The 25-year-old is coming off his best season, going 24-17-6 with a 2.25 goals-against average, .919 save percentage and nine shutouts in 54 games. Leclaire’s record was the best in franchise history and his shutout total nearly doubled the previous club mark of five set by Marc Denis in 2002-03. After the season, Leclaire helped Canada win a silver medal at the world championships, going 4-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and one shutout in four games.

Our View: Last year was hands down his best. He finally lived up to the expectations of him when he was selected No. 8 overall in 2001. He ranked second in the NHL in shutouts, seventh in goals-against average and 11th in save percentage. He was also playing for a contract. He remains a solid option just on the cusp of a top-10 keeper. He owns a 41-49-11 record with a 2.71 goals-against average and 10 shutouts in 113 career NHL games. He missed most of the 2006-07 season due to a knee injury.
Van Ryn ready to return Wednesday 7/30, 11:20 AM CT
After multiple wrist surgeries, Mike Van Ryn stated he is ready to return to top form with the Panthers, according to the Miami Herald. He said, "I feel awesome now. I look at other guys around the league. It took Edmonton Oilers' defenseman Sheldon Souray a while to get his right. It can be a difficult surgery. I'm just excited to play, try and contribute and help the Panthers win some games."

Our View: This is favorable news for the Panthers' defenseman, and could hold value as a late-round pick next season as he averaged 34 points over three healthy seasons with Florida from 2003-04 to 2006-07.
Detroit re-signs FilppulaWednesday 7/30, 11:19 AM CT
The Sports Ticker reports that the Detroit Red Wings signed 24-year-old free agent center Valtteri Filppula to a five-year contract worth $15 million.

Our View: Last season, he recorded 19 goals and 17 assists in 78 games with Detroit and he should improve upon those numbers in the upcoming campaign. Any center in Detroit's offense warrants fantasy consideration.
Parrish placed on waivers Wednesday 7/30, 9:39 AM CT
Mark Parrish has been placed on waivers by the Wild, according to TSN.

Our View: Parrish scored 35 goals over two campaigns with Minnesota, and was strictly waived as a casualty of the NHL salary cap.
Koistinen awarded deal Wednesday 7/30, 9:36 AM CT
Ville Koistinen has been awarded a one-year deal worth $700,000 in arbitration, according to the Tennessean.

Our View: The new contract represents a 47 percent raise for Koistinen, who made $475,000 with Nashville last season, when he notched 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) and posted a plus-13 rating over 48 games.
