Zednik to be ready for training campSaturday 8/9, 5:25 PM CT
Panthers GM Jacques Martin tells reporters forward Richard Zednik , who had his neck slashed by Olli Jokinen's skate February 10th, is expected to be ready for training camp, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View: Martin, who has spoken with Zednik and trainer David Zenobi, said Zednik has been skating and doing a lot of physical work in his attempt to come back from a gruesome and life-threatening injury, according to The Herald.
Kubina goes from trade block to potential captainSaturday 8/9, 5:23 PM CT
Maple Leafs GM Cliff Fletcher has told reporters the chances are "less than 50 percent" that he'll trade defenseman Pavel Kubina before the August 15th window in his contract closes, according to the Toronto Sun. "Any trade involving Pavel would have to be very advantageous for the Leafs," Fletcher told the Sun. "I thought he played well last season and I know [new Leafs coach] Ron Wilson liked him a lot. Plus, it's very quiet right now for trades."

Our View: Kubina, who signed a four-year, $20M deal with the Leafs before the 2006-07 season, was almost traded last season because of his oversized contract and disappointing play. Fletcher reportedly had a deal at the deadline to send Kubina to San Jose in exchange for defenseman Kyle McLaren, but Kubina used his no-movement clause to veto the trade. Although Kubina's contract has an opening for the club to trade him between June 20 to August 15, the 31-year-old blue-liner might even become the new captain in Toronto if Mats Sundin doesn't return.
Nashville GM confirms interest in Parrish, MurraySaturday 8/9, 5:20 PM CT
Predators GM David Poile has talked with the agents for free agent forwards Mark Parrish and Glen Murray but sounded reluctant to bring in any help until the Alexander Radulov situation is straightened out, according to The Tennessean.

Our View: Previously, Parrish's agent told The Tennessean that the Predators were one of a number of teams that expressed interest in his client, who was bought out by the Wild last month. However, the Stars are not interested, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Sundin begins skatingSaturday 8/9, 8:55 AM CT
Mats Sundin has left people in the lurk about whether or not he will suit up next season, but he has now begun skating, according to the Toronto Star.

Our View: This does not necessarily mean he is coming back to the ice, but it is a step in the right direction. Sundin gave fantasy owners 78 points last season, and would be an attractive option again this year.
McCabe will consider tradeSaturday 8/9, 8:50 AM CT
Defenseman Bryan McCabe will consider lifting his no-trade clause, according to the Toronto Star. The Toronto Maple Leafs desperately want to trade him and his contract, which pays him $5.75 million per year. McCabe had not budged in his stance to waive his no-trade clause until now.

Our View: McCabe could be a depth player in fantasy hockey, but little else. He put up 23 points in 54 games last season.
