Sundin interested in Rangers or not?Sunday 8/17, 8:56 PM CT
The drama surrounding free-agent forward Mats Sundin seems to have no end. Earlier today we reported Sundin was interested in joining the New York Rangers, but we are now receiving reports that Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry, is denying such claims are true, according to TSN.

Our View: As reported in the New York Post, well-connected sources have stated that Sundin has expressed his interest in playing for the Blueshirts. The Post report went on to say that Sundin's agent, J.P. Barry has been in constant communication with front-office personnel from the Rangers. When contacted by TSN, Barry denied there have been any increased discussions with the Rangers. He told TSN that he has spoken to both the Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers but also has had long discussions with Maple Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher and Vancouver Canucks general manager Mike Gillis. Barry said there are six teams interested in Sundin's services for next season. Barry also said his client has not made a decision on playing this coming season.
Bettman meets Medvedev to discuss RadulovSunday 8/17, 8:04 PM CT
NHL commissioner Gary Bettman and Continental Hockey League (KHL) president Alexander Medvedev met, supposedly in secret, Wednesday and failed to reach an agreement on the status of forward Alexander Radulov, according to the New York Post.

Our View: A source told the Post that Bettman demanded Radulov, who signed with Russia's Salavat Yulaev Ufa despite having a year left on his deal with the Predators, be returned to Nashville but was refused. Bettman's threat of legal action was met with Medvedev's invitation for the NHL to go ahead and pursue the matter in Russian court. The likelihood of a favorable ruling for the Predators and the NHL would be equal to the success Russian teams have had in suing NHL clubs over player rights in the U.S. court system: none. Medvedev offered to pay the Predators a transfer fee, similar to the practice in international soccer, but Bettman refused. The International Ice Hockey Federation is expected to rule soon on whether Radulov must play for the Predators or Ufa.
Sundin interested in Rangers Sunday 8/17, 12:09 PM CT
Mats Sundin is interested in joining the Rangers, according to the AP. Sundin’s agent, J.P. Barry, has spoken with the Rangers’ front office all week, although those discussions have not yet included specific terms for a contract.

Our View: The Rangers have around $2 million of cap space available, meaning they would have to shake up their roster to sign the 37-year-old Sundin. He has no interest in returning to Toronto, where he was offered a one-year deal worth $7 million.
