Defenseman Vitali Vishnevski was waived by the New Jersey Devils on Friday, according to TSN.com.
Our View: Vishnevski, a former fifth overall pick, had just seven points last year and had no value in fantasy hockey. |

The Rangers are going to retire jersey No. 9 in honor of Adam Graves, according to Newsday. Andy Bathgate also wore that number, and is included in the honor. The Rangers have also decided to retire No. 3 for defenseman Harry Howell.
Our View: Graves' jersey will be retired in a ceremony at Madison Square Garden on February 3 before the game against the Thrashers. Graves was a member of the 2004 Stanley Cup championship team, and was twice named the Rangers' MVP over his 10 years of service in New York. |

Martin Hanzal is expected to be ready for the start of the 2008-09 campaign after undergoing back surgery in mid-July, according to the Arizona Republic.
Our View: He has started a light rehab program, which will gradually increase over time. |

Jeff Finger is excited to be a member of the Maple Leafs, according to the Toronto Sun. He tried on his new jersey for the first time and said, "Seeing myself wearing that Maple Leaf, well, it was unbelievable. At that moment, it really sunk in. I'm really a Toronto Maple Leaf. It's amazing. You hear about the hockey atmosphere, guys tell you what it's like, but until you see it in person, until you actually see all those kids watching you practice in the middle of the summer, well, it's hard to believe."
