Woods asking $3 mil for '09 Australian MastersSaturday 4/19, 9:12 AM CT
The owners of the Australian Masters, IMG, have revealed they are negotiating to bring Tiger Woods to Melbourne to participate in the tournament in 2009, according to the Herald Sun.

Our View: Reports indicate IMG has contacted Woods' representatives in New York about luring the game's top name to their event next season and have been quoted an asking price of $3 million to get Woods on boards. That would be three times the purse for the winning golfer in the event, but more importantly, the deal is contingent on IMG finding a new three-year sponsor for the event, a deal that will cost that potential sponsor $12 million. Getting Woods listed as a committed participant would certainly make that search much easier.
Glover, Weekley topping board at HeritageSaturday 4/19, 1:38 AM CT
Boo Weekley will join Lucas Glover in the final pairing to hit the links on Saturday, sitting at 2nd and 1st respectively on the two-day leaderboard at this week's Verizon Heritage. Weekley shot 69 on Thursday with a 64 on Friday, an outstanding effort matched only by Stephen Ames as the top round of the day.

Our View: Weekley is the defending champion and thus far he appears to be right on track. Glover is still young and just cutting his PGA teeth, but he is both consistent and outstanding after two rounds at Harbour Links (shooting 66 on both days).
Kim near the top at HeritageSaturday 4/19, 1:36 AM CT
Anthony Kim has put forth a consistent and noteworthy effort thus far, shooting 67 both on Thursday and Friday to hit the weekend at -8 (134).

Our View: Kim has missed three of his last four cut and hasn't found a strong outing since finishing 3rd back in January at the Bob Hope. He's one of the best putters on Tour, so Kim should be able to stay in the mix as we move into the weekend.
Cink stays hot as can beSaturday 4/19, 1:35 AM CT
Stewart Cink continues to shine bright as one of the more reliable and consistent players on the Tour. Cink followed Thursday's round of 67 with a Friday score of 68, putting Cink at -7 overall, good for T4 (joined by Stephen Ames and Cliff Kresge).

Our View: Cink has been on the links on Sunday twice this season with Tiger Woods as his playing partner. Other than a DQ at the Zurich Classic, Cink has been a fantasy MVP, finishing in the top THREE four times through eight starts this season, with just one missed cut and one finish outside of the top 20 in the others. Now he's primed for a run at the Heritage.
Baddeley, Furyk looking to rise on weekend at HeritageSaturday 4/19, 1:34 AM CT
A strong group of duffers will go into weekend play at this week's Verizon Heritage at -6 (136), just four shots off the lead, putting them right in the hunt for a strong weekend and contention for a trophy. Aaron Baddeley sits on that list, having won at this tourney two years ago and coming in just short of another win at this same venue last season. Jim Furyk, a savvy veteran who knows how to get it done on weekends, is right there as well.

Our View: Jonathan Byrd, Jason Bohn, and Robert Allenby also sit on that list.
Leonard in the huntSaturday 4/19, 1:33 AM CT
Justin Leonard started the day in a three-way tie for first place at this week's Verizon Heritage, but a bit of struggle on Day 2 at the Harbour Town Golf Links has dropped him back to -5 (137), good for T14 on the current leaderboard. Leonard shot 66 in Round 1 of the tourney but fell to 71 in Round 2.

Our View: It is officially a trend: Leonard is a worry on Day 2. In his last five tourneys, Leonard has shot well on Thursday (average round: 69.6) and fallen on Friday (average round: 73.2). Regardless, he has made his 10th cut of the season and remains flawless for cuts made.
Love swinging hot sticks at the HeritageSaturday 4/19, 1:32 AM CT
Davis Love III has shot a combined score of 137 to hit the weekend of golf play at this week's Verizon Heritage at five strokes under par, good for T14.

Our View: Not only is the veteran in weekend action (he has missed three cuts in his last six starts), but he is well within reach of competing for an oversized check, Love's best two-day start this season (by far).
Snedeker in the weekend mixSaturday 4/19, 1:18 AM CT
Brandt Snedeker has come in at -2 (140) for the first two days of competition at this week's Verizon Heritage.

Our View: He may have earned more than a few fantasy starts this week after an outstanding performance at The Masters, but Snedeker is current at T37 and will need near-flawless golf from here on out to find a spot on the top of the learderboard.
Chopra, Flesch get into weekendSaturday 4/19, 1:16 AM CT
Both Daniel Chopra and Steve Flesch have finished the weekday action at this week's Verizon Heritage at -1 (141), two strokes off the cut line. Chopra started the season hot but has since fallen flat (five missed cuts and no top-30 finishes in his last 10 tourneys). Flesch showed well at The Masters last week but was a bit stealthy in narrowly avoiding the cut.

Our View: Both are capable of improving their current standing over the weekend, but they are two of very few that could rise from the ashes and compete.
Toms makes the cut at HeritageSaturday 4/19, 1:14 AM CT
David Toms has brought a combined two-day total of 142 over the first two rounds at this week's Verizon Heritage into the weekend, hitting even par and coming in one stroke over the cut line.

Our View: Toms has struggled with health issues, missing two of his last three cuts and coming in at T42 at The Masters. He needs a dramatic rise to find the bottom reaches of the leaderboard, but it's a step in the right direction.
Friday Cut-Line comes at +1 at HeritageSaturday 4/19, 12:33 AM CT
With Friday's action on the links completed and in the books, the tourney's weekend cut-line has been set at +1. As a result, more than a few notable names were sent packing, including Ernie Els , Zach Johnson, Ryuji Imada, Chad Campbell, Bart Bryant, Jason Day, Sean O'Hair, and J.B. Holmes.

Our View: Els has found wonderful success on the links of Harbour Town in the past but this season appears to have him back in a rut. Zach Johnson and Sean O'Hair also showed well here in recent memory. O'Hair will prepare for next week at the Byron Nelson Championship while ZJ prepares for an extended break to rest.
Rose, Calcavecchia withdraw at HeritageSaturday 4/19, 12:31 AM CT
Both Justin Rose and Mark Calcavecchia have officially withdrawn from this week's Verizon Heritage. Rose has listed a bad back as his reason for the decision to take Friday off while Calc listed illness.

Our View: Neither was in contention, neither was close to making the cut, and both would just assume start practicing for the next week (though Rose did suffer through a similar problem at this time last season and then missed several weeks).
Daly listed but will miss next week due to surgerySaturday 4/19, 12:30 AM CT
John Daly appears on the PGA's list of committed attendees on the Tour's stop at the Byron Nelson Championship next week. There's every reason to believe that will not hold true. Daly has just undergone stomach surgery (repair a torn muscle) and is not going to be seen on the PGA set of links any time soon. The official withdrawal notice should be coming any time (probably on Monday).

Our View: In the meantime, we await Daly's decision about his future. He told reporters he would be ready to go in about two weeks and was seriously considering a stint on the European Tour. That has yet to be announced as official (and we hope you are disappointed as fantasy owners, for Daly has become all but untouchable).
