Harrington aiming for U.S. Open surgeTuesday 4/29, 6:33 PM CT
Padraig Harrington has reported he will be skipping next month's PGA Championship at Wentworth, the European Tour's shining moment of the season, with the goal of formulating a schedule to prepare for peak condition at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, according to Reuters.

Our View: The 36-year-old Irishman last won the Open Championship, his first career victory at a major, and recently told reporters that the "hangover" from that event "took some time to work it's way out." Fans can read into that what they will, but the top-shelf duffer has targeted this time of his season to rededicate himself to a major title and wants to make a focused run at the U.S. Open. "I feel that I am at my best during the third week of a tournament run, as evidenced by playing two events before last year's Open Championship," Harringon said. "Therefore, for the same reason I missed the WGC CA Championship at Doral ahead of The Masters, I have decided not to play in the PGA Championship ahead of the U.S. Open." For fantasy owners, the vast majority of whom play in leagues that do not include European Tour events, the news seems menial on the surface. However, it is worthy of note as he attempts to put his best game, a game that already ranks as one of the best in the world, on the links of Torrey Pines. Keep that in mind when you set your lineups for the U.S. Open.
Westwood withdraws from WachoviaTuesday 4/29, 6:22 PM CT
Lee Westwood has officially withdrawn from this week's Wachovia Championship, listing illness as his reason for taking a pass on his original commitment.

Our View: Westwood is hanging in the States to prepare for next week's PLAYERS Championship, but he'll need a couple of days to get over flu-like symptoms. He is replaced in the field by Carlos Franco.
Gore takes third withdrawal in four weeksTuesday 4/29, 6:21 PM CT
Jason Gore has officially withdrawn from this week's Wachovia Championship.

Our View: This is his second early withdrawal in as many weeks and his third withdrawal in his last four tourneys as the once-rising golfer fights (or, apparently, ignores) a recent slump of tough times and missed cuts on the golf course. He hasn't played on a PGA weekend since mid-February, and while reports from the PGA fail to indicate injury concern or other potential reason for the withdrawals, it is fair to question what may be troubling Gore and what lies ahead. He is replaced in the field by Brad Adamonis.
Gay withdraws from WachoviaTuesday 4/29, 6:20 PM CT
Brian Gay has officially withdrawn from this week's Wachovia Championship.

Our View: Gay is coming off a 7th-place finish at the Byron Nelson, but his '08 resume reveals his worst performances have come against the Tour's best fields (making this withdrawal less surprising). He is replaced in the field by Marc Turnesa.
Jobe withdraws from WachoviaTuesday 4/29, 6:19 PM CT
Brandt Jobe has officially withdrawn from this week's Wachovia Championship.

Our View: Jobe is playing on a Major Medical Extension through 2008, marking his two cuts made out of seven PGA starts a concern. He is replaced in the field by Lee Janzen.
Coceres withdraws from WachoviaTuesday 4/29, 6:18 PM CT
Jose Coceres has officially withdrawn from this week's Wachovia Championship.

Our View: Coceres has played well during this time of year in season's past, but this campaign has been different, missing four cut over his last five PGA starts. He is replaced in the field by Jin Park.
Doughtery suffers loss, withdraws from WachoviaTuesday 4/29, 6:17 PM CT
Nick Dougherty has officially withdrawn from this week's Wachovia Championship.

Our View: Dougherty's mother passed away due to heart attack nine days ago, and he filed his official withdrawal notice that day. He was in the midst of a 10th-place performance on Sunday at the Verizon Heritage when he received the news (a finish that would have earned him a spot in the PLAYERS Championship), and he walked off the course and withdrew from that tourney as well upon hearing the tragic news. RotoTimes and Fanball would like to send our deepest condolences to Nick and his entire family as they attempt to find solace in this midst of these heartbreaking events.
Crane withdraws from WachoviaTuesday 4/29, 6:16 PM CT
Ben Crane has officially withdrawn from this week's Wachovia Championship.

Our View: Crane has played rather well this season, having missed just his second cut through 11 PGA starts. The PGA has noted illness as his officially-submitted reason for the withdrawal. He will be replaced by Brett Rumford.
