Despite victory by Camilo Villegas today at the BMW Championship, Vijay Singh now owns an almost insurmountable leader in FedExCup points, according to the PGA. After his T44 finish Sunday, Singh now has 122,651 points. Villegas, by winning at Bellerive, moves into second place with 112,050 points. A win at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola is worth 12,500 points. Should Villegas win, he would have 124,550 points. Meanwhile, the 30th (last) place finish at THE TOUR Championship is worth 2,000. So if Singh finishes last, he would have 124,651 points - 101 points more than Villegas.
Our View: Only three things can happen to prevent Singh from winning the FedExCup and the $10 million bonus: a) He decides not to play at East Lake; b) He withdraws from East Lake; or c) He gets disqualified during THE TOUR Championship. Don't expect the first one to happen, and the last two, while certainly possible, aren't likely. Essentially, all Singh has to do to claim the FedExCup is sign his scorecard after the final round at East Lake later this month. |

With just 30 of today's golfers at the BMW Championship earning invites to the TOUR Championship, the final stage of the FedEx Cup playoffs, some dramatic moves took place and forced several noteworthy names out of the TOUR Championship field, including Geoff Ogilvy and Boo Weekley, according to the PGA.
Our View: The top of the leaderboard has been, for the most part, set. However, the group at the cut line was in flux all day long thanks to the play of others such as Dudley Hart, D.J. Trahan, and Tim Clark. As a result, Ogilvy, Weekley, Stephen Ames, Brandt Snedeker, and Kevin Streelman are left on the outside looking in. |

Sergio Garcia came to the BMW Championship with a mathematical chance to win the FedExCup, but his finish at this week's BMW Championship has all but ended his hopes of pushing Vijay Singh for the oversized check, according to the PGA. "I just didn't play well enough this week," the Spaniard said. "Obviously it's been a tough run and a lot of weeks out there and trying to win. You know, we got one day off and then we had to catch up this week. The course was very wet, it was very heavy on our legs, and obviously just a little bit tired towards the end of the week. I would have loved to play a little better and putt a little better and score a little better, but unfortunately I didn't, so I'm looking forward to my resting."
Our View: Garcia plans to take the next week off leading up to the Ryder Cup at Valhalla. He'll stay in the United States, visiting friends, and then head to Kentucky. His putter has been especially beneficial over recent weeks, a strong reversal of fortunes after the first months of the season presented difficult struggles on with the short blade. If he can keep his focus and recharge during this week of, he could be a significant factor for Team Europe in this year's Ryder Cup. |

For Anthony Kim, who will be making his Ryder Cup debut at Valhalla later this month, it was a good week to gain some knowledge and talk about the Ryder Cup, according to the PGA. In the first round, he played with Phil Mickelson and Kenny Perry; in Saturday's second and third rounds, his playing partners were Mickelson and J.B. Holmes. In the final round he was walking with Jim Furyk, another Ryder Cup veteran. That means for the first three rounds, he played strictly with his future Ryder Cup teammates.
Our View: In looking back at Kim's playing partners this year, he had multiple occasions in which he played with Ryder Cup teammates. Of course, of those pairings earlier in the season, the Ryder Cup teams had not been set, but that probably didn't prevent Kim and his then-partners of at least discussing the Ryder Cup during their 18 holes together. In addition, Kim also played with two-time U.S. Ryder Cupper Chris DiMarco on three occasions. He also played a few rounds with his soon-to-be Ryder Cup opponents, including Sergio Garcia in the first two rounds of the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills. |

He didn't finish the way he wanted, but after Jay Williamson has time to put today's final-round score of 73 - which included a 39 on his final nine holes - behind him and reflect on the BMW Championship, he'll have to be pleased, according to the PGA. He thrilled his ample gallery in the first two rounds, shooting rounds of 68 and 69. But Williamson wasn't able to maintain that pace and Sunday's round of 3 over dropped him from a tie for 39th into a tie for 52nd. "I thought it played relatively easy today," Williamson said. "If you can get the ball in the fairway you can certainly get it on the green. They're not firm. They're not fast. I guess it's harder than I give it credit for. After a little bit of time here, I'll look back and reflect and realize it was a great week. Certainly a week I won't ever forget. Just wish it could be better."
Our View: First of all, the 41-year-old veteran played his way into the third Playoff event. Not to mention, Williamson was playing at his home club with a legion of friends and family following his every move. Among Williamson's favorite memories was the 37-footer he rolled in for birdie on his final hole of the first round. He was also extremely pleased with the way fans in his hometown rallied around the event. |

Camilo Villegas won for the first time on the PGA TOUR with three big putts on the back nine at Bellerive on Sunday for a wire-to-wire victory in the BMW Championship, according to the PGA. Villegas closed with a 2-under 68 for a two-shot victory over Dudley Hart, who birdied the final two holes to earn a trip to the Masters with his highest finish in two years.
Our View: With one Playoff event remaining, the FedExCup essentially is over. Vijay Singh, who won the first two events, tied for 44th and earned enough points that all he has to do is complete four rounds at THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola in two weeks to collect the $10 million payoff. Despite Villegas consistent play and his victory today, it will take a small miracle to put him contention for the FedEx Cup this season. |

After tremendous wins in each of the first two stages of this year's FedEx Cup playoffs, Vijay Singh has fallen out of contention at this week's BMW Championship, according to the PGA. After an opening round of 70 on Friday (Thursday's rounds were cancelled due to rain), Vijay failed to improve today in two rounds, carding scores of 70 and 71 to hit the fourth round at 1-stroke over par for the tourney.
Our View: In making the cut, Singh has all but wrapped the FedEx Cup Championship regardless of the slight fall from grace. Only three players were in contention to make a potential move (Sergio Garcia, Mike Weir, Camilo Villegas) and all were in need of two missed cuts from Singh to have a realistic shot. Villegas has stayed hot and could make it interesting, but there is little reason to believe Singh won't that the FedEx Cup home this season. |

K.J. Choi made the biggest move to the first page of the leaderboard on Saturday afternoon at this week's BMW Championship, according to the PGA. Choi carded a score of 6-under 64 in the third round of play, leaving him at 8-under for the tournament going into Sunday's final round.
Our View: Choi has hit 46 of 54 greens in regulation this week, which ranks him No. 1 in the field. This is a nice surge from one of the most active international talents in the game. He has filled one of the largest schedules on the Tour, making stops on the main circuit as well as on the European and Asian Tours, and is in contention at most. His scores in recent weeks have been a little higher than desired, indicating the fatigue of a long season and more than a fair share of airline miles logged may be giving him a hard time, but today shows he still has the game to compete with the best. |

After shooting a par of 67s to put him solidly in the hunt going into the third round, Brian Gay continued top play on Saturday afternoon at this week's BMW Championship, according to the PGA. He carded a third-round score of 4-under par and currently stands at 10-under for the tournament - one of just three players (Jim Furyk, Camilo Villegas) sitting at double-digit strokes under par.
Our View: The PGA reports Gay, in his first nine holes of the third round, had six one-putt greens, an amazing performance with the putter. We'll see if he can keep the short blade hot on Sunday and continue the battle with Villegas and Furyk. |

With a rare miscue off the tee, Jim Furyk bogeyed the final hole of his third round at this week's BMW Championship today. However, his round of 4-under 66, bookended with the 8-under 62 he shot Saturday morning, wraps up a terrific performance on a long day at the third stage of this season's FedEx Cup playoff, according to the PGA.
Our View: That bogey dropped Furyk into a tie with Camilo Villegas at 12 under, two shots ahead of Brian Gay. But while Furyk is done, Villegas - who just started his second nine - will have to finish his third round Sunday morning. Furyk has yet to earn a victory this season but has been in contention at the vast majority of tourneys he has hit. You know he will be as consistent as ever on Sunday, but the battle with Villegas and any others who make a charge could be rather intriguing. |
