Norman ponders invite to final majorWednesday 7/23, 6:16 PM CT
Greg Norman , coming off an outstanding performance at the Open Championship, reports he has until Thursday to decide whether to accept an invitation to play in the final major of the year, the PGA Championship, according to ESPN.com.

Our View: Norman's 3rd-place finish at the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale has given him a place in the field for the PGA at Oakland Hills. However, Norman notes he has commited to play in each of the next four weeks, including a tourney held the same weekend as the major in question. Norman, who was ranked 646th in the world before the British Open, has jumped 480 places to No. 166, his highest ranking since 2003. We will see what he chooses to do, but a move to the Senior circuit is already in the works with plans to play in both the Senior US Championship in Colorado Springs, Colorado next week, followed by a trip to Troon, England to play in the Senior British Open.
Cox withdraws from Canadian OpenWednesday 7/23, 6:11 PM CT
Kris Cox has officially withdrawn from the RBC Canadian Open.

Our View: Cox has been splitting his time on the links this season between the PGA and Nationwide Tours but he is suffering through rough times, failing to make a cut in six PGA starts. He will be replaced in the field by Larry Mize.
Geiberger withdraws from Canadian OpenWednesday 7/23, 6:09 PM CT
Brent Geiberger has filed for early withdrawal from the RBC Canadian Open.

Our View: Geiberger has managed to qualify for weekend play just twice over his last eight PGA starts, and he needs to recollect if he hopes to get back on track this season. He will be replaced in the field by John Huston.
Imada files for withdrawal from Canadian OpenWednesday 7/23, 6:07 PM CT
Ryuji Imada has officially withdrawn from this week's Canadian Open.

Our View: This is the second year in a row Imada has filed for early withdrawal from the Canadian Open, and while no official reason was put forth for pulling out, we suspect he is simply taking a break and hoping to put full focus on the final major of the year, the PGA Championship. He will be replaced in the field by Dan Forsman.
Verplank pulls out of Canadian OpenWednesday 7/23, 6:05 PM CT
Scott Verplank has officially filed for early withdrawal from this week's Canadian Open.

Our View: Verplank carries a strong resume at this tourneys, thus his decision to skip is a bit surprising. There is no word of injury or health issue, thus we see no reason for concern looking forward. He will be replaced in the field by Glen Day.
Lowery withdraws from Canadian OpenWednesday 7/23, 6:02 PM CT
Steve Lowery has officially withdrawn from the RBC Canadian Open.

Our View: This makes three consecutive early withdrawals for Lowery, and the assumptions can roll from there. We tend to believe he is simply lightening the schedule after early success, including a win at Pebble Beach, has him secure for the 2009 season. He will be replaced in the field by Olin Browne.
Leonard was in, now out of Canadian OpenTuesday 7/22, 5:58 PM CT
Reports from the PGA Tour indicate Justin Leonard had planned on attending this week's Canadian Open but submitted for early withdrawal, instead choosing to take a week of rest before attending the WGC Bridgestoe Invitational.

Our View: Leonard made a strong showing at the Open Championship and certainly deserves a rest before the elite of the game convene for another WGC event. If he keeps a hot hand, he should be in the mix for top leaderboard position when he returns to the links.
Harrington wins consecutive Open ChampionshipsSunday 7/20, 4:32 PM CT
Padraig Harrington held true to his career-changing performance of last season, earning his second consecutive Open Championship title today by shooting a final round of 69 (-1) at Royal Birkdale to take the oversized check and the new illustrious mantle piece.

Our View: Repeating as a major champion is as difficult as any task in sports, but doing it when the tourney is held on different courses is nothing short of astounding. Harrington had commited to making this run throughout his schedule this season, realizing he may have let last year's Open Championship get into his game and hampering his drive to repeat and earn respect as one of the best in the world. Today's victory will put him back in that rank and all but assures Harrington a place among the elite of the PGA today.
Norman falls short of dream at Open ChampionshipSunday 7/20, 4:28 PM CT
The hope of a miracle in the making reigned supreme coming into Sunday, but in the end the great Greg Norman could not hold on, shooting a frustrating 77 (+7) on Sunday to fall into a tie for 3rd place on the final leaderboard at Royal Birkdale in this season's Open Championship.

Our View: The ride was as entertaining as any at the major this season, but the fall on Sunday left many wishing for a better ending. We won't assert Norman as a player to watch, but if you enjoy watching the champions of old on the senior circuit, you'll find Norman there ripping the links before too long (stating he had entered the Open this week just to practice for those tourneys coming on that Tour).
Poulter finishes 2nd at the Open ChampionshipSunday 7/20, 4:23 PM CT
In one of his best performances in recent memory, Ian Poulter found comfort on the course of his homeland to shoot four of the best rounds of the week at the Open Championship, shooting an impressive 69 (-1) on Sunday to move seven spots up the final leaderboard and gain sole possession of 2nd place.

Our View: Poulter has struggled this season, rumored to be hampered by minor wrist issues. Today, he worked it as well as any golfer on the Tour and picked up his best check in months.
