Singh to have MRI, US Open may be trouble

Vijay Singh has officially withdrawn from the BMW PGA Championship, this week's stop on the European Tour, listing a rib injury as his reason for the early withdrawal, according to the SportingLife.com.

Our View: Singh spoke with reporters stating that he has been aching since arriving in Wentworth on Monday, noting a sharp and surging pain in his ribs that is "unbearable" at it's worst. He intends to return to the U.S. and will visit doctors with hopes of identifying and alleviating the problem via an MRI, signs that Singh's status may be more serious than we currently believe. He is listed as a member of the field in next week's Memorial, but now it seems all too likely that he will be out, and that will put his plans for the U.S. Open in question as well. We will update as news becomes available.

Rose doing well, thinking Europe for '09

Justin Rose reports his back is doing well and he is giving serious consideration to changing his professional focus by spending more of his time on the European Tour, according to Setanta Sports.

Our View: Rose has been battling back problems for a couple of years now and he noted that pain was the cause for in only PGA withdrawal this season. He states he is going to complete his commitments this season and will then look at changing his priorities for next year, noting no intention of adding more tourneys and instead shifting the bulk of his play to Europe.

Bertsch withdraws after nine from Colonial

Shane Bertsch has officially withdrawn from this week's Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

Our View: Bertsch completed the first nine holes of the opening round, going +5 through those holes, before walking off the course. The PGA reports Bertsch has claimed a back and/or neck injury as his reason for leaving early.

Mediate withdraws from Colonial

Rocco Mediate has officially withdrawn from this week's Crowne Plaza Invitational.

Our View: He has been replaced in the field by Jon Mills.
