Complaints surround motives at MemorialSaturday 5/31, 9:53 AM CT
With scores soaring at this week's Memorial Tournament in Dublin, Ohio, there are some who are openly criticizing the condition of the course and questioning the motives of event organizers, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View: As we enter Saturday's third round of competition, only 17 golfers stand with scored under par as rough has been brutal and sand traps are reportedly as tough as the Tour has seen this season. Veteran duffer Steve Flesch came off the course on Friday after shooting rounds of 76 and 81, missing the cut, and wasted no time in sounding his disapproval. The consensus seems to believe that Jack Nicklaus, the event host and organizer, was directly charged with encouraging this year's layout that includes extremely thick rough and sand traps molded to cause problems for those that shoot into trouble. Flesch felt it was too much, and while he stopped short of questioning Nicklaus directly, he stated the desire to push this tourney as a "fifth major" has created a negative situation. This is bad news for an event that is already suffering from a loss in allure. More than a few of the game's top names withdrew early and many more, including Ernie Els, Brandt Snedeker, Steve Marino, Hunter Mahan, and Bubba Watson, failed to qualify for weekend play.
