Amazing groups announced for U.S. OpenWednesday 6/4, 11:48 PM CT
The USGA has announced pairings for the first two days of competition at this year's U.S. Open in Torrey Pines, and fans of the game should be rather happy, according to ESPN. Among the groups of note, Tiger Woods will play with Phil Mickelson and Adam Scott.

Our View: Ernie Els, Justin Rose, and Geoff Ogilvy will be grouped, as will Stewart Cink, Sergio Garcia, and Vijay Singh. Last but not least, K.J. Choi, Jim Furyk, and Steve Stricker will be trolling the course together. Those are outstanding groups that are sure to entertain us all with outstanding talents matched throughout.
Woods plays 17+ at Torrey PinesWednesday 6/4, 10:14 PM CT
Tiger Woods has played his first full 18-hole round of golf since arthroscopic knee surgery, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Playing at Torrey Pines, located close to his home in California and preparing to host this year's U.S. Open, Tiger completed 17 holes using a cart (he was set to complete #18 but was deterred by a group of photographers) and got rave reviews from his swing coach, Hank Haney. No spectators or media were allowed on the grounds by increased course security. It was the first time Woods has played at Torrey Pines since he won the Buick Invitational in January by eight shots. Woods, who opened his 2008 season by winning his first four tournaments, had surgery to clean out cartilage in his left knee on April 15, two days after his runner-up finish at the Masters. It was his second surgery on the left knee in five years.
Perry will pass on Open ChampionshipWednesday 6/4, 6:03 PM CT
Kenny Perry surprised a few reporters today, announcing he has committed to attend the U.S. Bank Championship, held the same week as the Open Championship, according to JS Online.

Our View: Perry has stated his ultimate goal is to earn a spot on this season's Ryder Cup team, that competition being held in his home state of Ohio. This decision gives him a prime opportunity to fight for a win and the adjoining Ryder Cup points, thus he'll sacrifice the trip to the major to concentrate on his desired goal.
Day taking more time off with back issuesWednesday 6/4, 6:02 PM CT
Jason Day has decided to take three weeks off from PGA Tour action as he completes a move to Fort Worth, Texas, according to Fox Sports.

Our View: Day is looking to relocate to a vicinity near a physical therapist that is attempting to improve lower back pain. Day first reported his back was an issue in April at the Shell Houston Open and three weeks of rest taken after that tourney has not helped. Day will continue therapy during the move and hopes to be back in good health upon his return.
Micheel to undergo surgeryWednesday 6/4, 6:01 PM CT
Shaun Micheel will undergo surgery after competing in this week's Stanford St. Jude Championship and thus will be forced to miss about four months of golf action, according to Commercial Appeal.

Our View: Micheel suffered a torn labrum and partial torn biceps earlier this season, but he has been attempting to play through the pain (possibly motivated by the pending end to his exempt status, this being his fifth year since winning the PGA Championship). He hasn't been too consistent this season, so we hope the surgery will help him overcome those obstacles and get his golf game back on track.
Goydos takes opportunity to rest, withdraws from St. JudeWednesday 6/4, 5:59 PM CT
Paul Goydos has officially withdrawn from this week's Stanford St. Jude Championship.

Our View: Goydos failed in his attempt to earn qualification at the U.S. Open and is going to take this opportunity for a prolonged rest despite a strong record of success at TPC Southwind.
Hart withdraws from Stanford St. JudeWednesday 6/4, 5:59 PM CT
Dudley Hart has officially withdrawn from this week's Stanford St. Jude Championship.

Our View: His streak of missed cuts was finally laid to rest by earning weekend status at the Memorial, finishing T30. He will be replaced in the field by Russ Cochran.
