Woods, Mediate to settle US Open on Monday

Veteran Rocco Mediate held true through Sunday with quality golf and very few mistakes while Tiger Woods was in the awkward position of fighting from behind to get the job done, but after four rounds at Torrey Pines, the two have ended in a tie at -1 at this season's U.S. Open.

Our View: This is the first time in 13 majors that Tiger has held the lead after three rounds and failed to convert the win. On the other hand, Mediate had to make the daunting run through sectional qualifying just to be here, not eligible for the Open through exemption of any kind (and he would go as far as to thank Arnold Palmer, the host of the Memorial that granted Mediate a sponsors exemption that allowed Mediate to get in shape for this run). The playoff will be held tomorrow morning with coverage on ESPN beginning at 12pm ET.
