Monty, Poulter engage in battle of words across the globe

"Oh well, it is nice to be told what to do by one so young and so inexperienced," said an apoplectic Colin Montgomerie last night at Gleneagles, where he is competing in the Johnnie Walker Championship. He was responding to comments by Ian Poulter in Boston, where he is competing in a PGA tour event, to the effect that Monty should mind his own business after the Scotsman claimed Poulter had a "hotline" to Faldo and had been promised a spot on the Euro team for this year's Ryder Cup, according to The Guardian.

Our View: Monty is not alone in the allegations as Nick Doughtery intimated he believed the same. The animosity towards Poulter doesn't speak well of either of their chances to make the squad now. Poulter has been playing rather well and seems much more likely to earn a spot on the team. Faldo will announce the final roster for the Euro squad on Monday and pressures are high for those sitting on the fringe of an invite. It appears the veterans are already feeling insulted.
